Charming seaside historic hotel on Kaikoura's Esplanade - sea and mountain views galore - accommodation, cafe and bar. Accommodation spans 5-star waterfront to 4-star courtyard rooms, all beautifully appointed. Boo Teek Cafe serving breakfast daily from 8am. Boo Teek Bar serving a platter menu every afternoon til close (in the early evening). Fantastic champagne list if you are in celebration-mode. Great wine and martini lists to enjoy as well as local craft beer. Make your time in Kaikoura magical, come stay or visit x

The rooms are extremely small, perhaps the smallest room I have been in. It is clean and the bed is relatively comfortable. Great location. Small things like the towel hooks had fallen off and not been replaced. In the tight space there was nowhere to hang a towel. This hotel would be okay for one night.

Quaint older hotel with lots of charm. Stayed in the main building - our room had a large balcony, great bathroom and comfy bed. We were greeted with lots of recommendations for dining and activities. Breakfast was a little basic, but standard continental. The staff in the breakfast room however, outstanding, kind and friendly. Unfortunately we didn’t get to have a drink in the lounge as it was closed @ 7pm.

This hotel has an excellent location and provides cleanly lodging. There is a delightful garden with colorful flowers and lovely lake views are right across the road. A delicious breakfast was included in the cost of our stay. I recommend this hotel.

We booked at short notice. We had read the reviews and done our homework. Yes the courtyard rooms are bijou but the courtyard itself was a pleasant place to sit and have a beer or glass of wine, we managed both. The Weather was amazing whilst we were there so we didn’t sit in the lounge/bar area, which by the way looked very comfortable. Although bijou we did manage the space well for the two nights we were there as we had already had much practice after our first three weeks touring NZ. Like any technique, you improve with practice. The location of the Pier is excellent for a drink outside if you are lucky enough to have the weather as we did. If we had one small issue it was that we were slightly disappointed with the one breakfast we had. We had hoped that we would have been able to choose the type of eggs we wanted, instead it was boiled or boiled. Both of my eggs were cold hard boiled. Fortunately I have a very healthy appetite and was able to make amends with a range of continental items. Some cold meats and cheeses would have been a further improvement. To sum up, friendly, bijou accommodation in a great location. Breakfast could be improved upon.…

Really excellent & charming little hotel. It’s about a 15 minute walk to the town centre and about 30 minutes to the peninsula’s end. Staff are charming and nothing was too much for Jen, the owner. It’s right on the coast so the views are spectacular. Sadly my travel agent got me one of the rooms in the courtyard, so I had to make do with sitting outside in the garden to enjoy the evening view. Room was a good size & comfortable, so no complaints there.

I would avoid booking with this hotel - on 29 October we booked a 1 night stay for a trip in February 2024 ( requiring payment in full up front) but due to a change of plan, cancelled the booking on 5 November . We received confirmation of the cancellation from the Hotel on 7 November confirming that the cost would be refunded back to the credit card. Despite several follow up communications no refund has been received - this smacks of incompetence or worse

The Kaikoura Boutique Hotel is located in an enviable position right on the beachfront in Kaikoura close to the town and all its amenities and attractions. The property itself is charming and well presented, offering lodgings but also open as a champagne/cocktail bar to the general public. We were only in Kaikoura for 2 nights for a pre booked whale watching tour and picked this place due to its close proximity. Our room in the main house was large, well equipped and immaculate with exquisite views from our own private terrace. By this point we’d been travelling a solid 13 days so were bored of constantly eating out for breakfast lunch and dinner. Instead we opted to buy a few beers and picky bits and have dinner on our terrace enjoying the amazing mountain and sea views. The owner was extremely lovely and welcoming and gave us lots of tips and suggestions on how to spend a very rainy day in the town. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone planning a stay in Kaikoura.…

I struggled selecting a hotel for our anniversary celebration in Kaikoura, but am so pleased that I booked the Kaikoura Boutique Hotel. We had a beautiful room and balcony overlooking the ocean. The service was great and the continental breakfast was perfect.

We stayed at the Kaikoura Boutique Hotel in a historic waterfront room and what a total delight the entire experience proved to be! I wish we had booked an additional night - we will next time! After living in Aotearoa New Zealand for over a decade, this is easily the best hotel accommodation we have stayed in here ... and we've travelled alot. The room was excellent: spacious, warm on arrival, excellent bathroom, immaculately clean, view of the mountains to the left and ocean in front, great bed and an easy 15 minute walk to the Pier Hotel. We enjoyed great cocktails in the cosy bar and the breakfast downstairs is not to be missed and really great value: a lovely cafe atmosphere, excellent barista coffee and cut above bread, fruit, muesli, yoghurt and eggs. Add to this an incredibly warm welcome and farewell from Jen who looked after us throughout. This place is a cut above and we'll be back.…

Response from Jen Barnes, Owner at Kaikoura Boutique Hotel
Responded 13 Aug 2023
Thanks for your beautiful and kind words. Love it when the hotel delivers the experience we strive for. Also, a big thanks for staying with us during Winter. Kaikoura is a seasonal tourist town that does it tough off-peak. Having travellers like you around literally ensures we survive, in every sense of the word. See you again we all hope, Jen x PS It's thanks to feedback like yours and others over recent months that it feels like we might be past those occasional covid-inspired "staff issues" - fingers firmly crossed :)
