Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My father and I visited here for a couple of drinks escaping the cold wet weather The staff were very friendly and we really enjoyed our visit They even gave some meatballs complimentary to have with our drinks. It is a typical and more traditional west coast pub which my father has visited many of in his lifetime so great to enjoy it with him

The motel units at the back over the hotel are really basic and close to a standard of cabin in campground. Very tired and not full kitchen - maybe s 1/4 kitchen. We booked in and the charge was 150. This we subsequently realised was 50% more than web site price. We paid, took one look at it and asked for money back. They refunded without fuss which we appreciated. What we did not appreciate was the holiday rort.

Stopped here for some food amd a drink and wasn't disappointed. Generous sized pub style dishes. Not fancy, but wholesome. Same can be said for he environment. It's not fancy, or flash, but it's a kiwi pub style atmosphere where you can stop for a drink without being judged.

Stayed here with a couple of mates during a motorcycle trip around South Island . The rooms were behind the hotel and pretty basic but clean and reasonably comfortable however a bit of R & M is needed in places, but for $40 per head it was in our opinion value for money . Easy walking distance to cafes and restaurants

It was a pretty basic setup with a super basic bathroom but the place was clean and comfortable for our one night stay. Decent size room and friendly staff. Nice and quiet despite being at the back of a pub.

The main motel rooms are beside the hotel, which unfortunately wasn't serving food the day we were there. Luckily, it's pretty well located and there are a few options in easy walking distance. The room was clean and cosy shelter from the pouring rain which came not long after our arrival, as we were ready for a rest anyway. It has all the basics you'd need for a cosy night or two.

This is a squalid, little, old place that was nowhere near worth the price. It smelt of cheap air freshener. One bedside light didn’t work and the wall heater was defunct and looked as though it had been for years. Neither of us wanted to shower there. We hardly slept and left before dawn. DONT GO THERE!

What a pleasant wee spot. It’s your classic Kiwi pub with a nice feel to it. The bar lady was very pleasant and welcoming and the atmosphere quite engaging. The pub clearly has a local following and is a cheerful spot to mix with the locals.

I booked this hotel through Booking.com, for some reason I thought my family and I would be staying in a room upstairs in an historic hotel. However, we were accommodated in their motel rooms a short walk next door. The Hotel was closed and it took a bit of searching to find a way in to get our room key, which was a bit disconcerting considering we couldn't find any notifications on what to do. The room we got given had bunks in a separate room with the queen bad placed in the lounge. On a rainy night we found the local cinema which was a fabulous experience. We dined, in our room, on some yummy fish n chips from nearby.

Nice old pub, food was ok, great Barman who was made for the job. Motel unit is away from the hotel not so good when it’s raining. Motel is okay, basic but clean and tidy. Is it worth a $100 a night- at a push.
