Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The most comfortable place we have stayed. Everything you could wish for in a bed and breakfast had already been thought of. Excellent host. Delicious breakfast. The most stunning views. Made to feel at home. All of the extra little touches made so much difference to our stay. Would certainly recommend this beautiful accommodation.

What an amazing lodge in which to stay. Sue Ellen has created a very memorable and well appointed four bedoom boutique lodge. Our bedroom was so comfortable. No detail was missed and the nightly turn down service was nuch appreciated! The lounge is stunning and we all love a drinks trolley at the end of a day's travel or a day of exploration. So very attentive and thoughtful which cannot be surpassed. We both thank you so very much for making this a real highlight of our New Zealand adventure. Did I mention the breakfast? WOW!

We stayed at Rimu for two nights in October - it’s a lovely lodge and Sue Ellen is a fantastic host. Her attention to detail is fantastic - all the small things are perfect, even ironing the serviettes every night. It’s very quiet with a fantastic view - waking up to the dawn chorus is beautiful. The bed was the most comfortable we had on our whole South Island holiday.

This lodge was one of the best places we stayed at in New Zealand, hands down. Sue Ellen immediately made us feel welcome. Our accommodations were top notch with a beautiful view. Sue Ellen offers a wine hour at 5 p.m. for the guests. A very nice touch. We met a lovely couple from Australia. Breakfast was outstanding, the best French toast I’ve ever had. Great hiking close by and multiple options for dinner. I highly recommend staying here. You won’t be disappointed.

Staying with Sue-Ellen at Rimu Lodge was a highlight of our 5 week trip through New Zealand. The ambiance and amenities at Rimu Lodge are first-class. The bed was extremely comfortable and our room had a wonderful view of the surrounding area. The warm breakfast that was made to order was outstanding. Staying in first class bed and breakfasts professionally run by wonderful hosts like Rimu Lodge made a huge difference in our enjoyment and insights into New Zealand. Sue-Ellen also recommended things to do and see in this absolutely stunningly beautiful area of the country.

For some reason, getting from nearby Hokitika to this small hidden-away lodge was more challenging than we expected, despite GPS. But once there, all was fine. Very nice welcome by the lady owner, complete with aperitif to get to know the other guests. An elegant touch, which should be replicated by other lodges and small hotels. The room (one of only four) was spacious, comfortable and bright. Had the weather been more on our side, we could also have enjoyed the terrace and the fine view a bit more. No dinner service, so - being somewhat off the beaten track - the only restaurant is the pub half a KM down the road. A bit raucous with lots of locals and live music, but good fun and the food was quite acceptable. The brisk walk back to the lodge made you sufficiently tired for a good night's sleep. I would also like to mention the wonderful breakfast served by the lodge. This is a very civilised sit-down breakfast with an excellent variety of fruit, breads, eggs, etc. My wife and I rated this the best breakfast we had on our month-long road-trip around New Zealand.

A very welcoming B&B on the outskirts of Hokitika, Su-Ellen is a great hostess and gave us so many ideas about what to do in the area. The room was large and really comfortable and breakfast was delicious. Had the weather been better, there is a large outdoor seating area. A shame we only stayed for one night.

Sue-Ellen is an excellent host, we received a personal welcome ,help with luggage and shown an extremely well presented room with all the extras that we could possibly need. Drinks and snacks were provided earl evening in the comfortable lounge with other guests. Sue-Ellen advised on dining options in the area and made reservations for us. Breakfast is served beginning 8am with a full cooked option beautifully presented. We stayed 3 nights and are planning a return visit Rimu Lodge is a great place to stay away from town with great facilities and a very nice hostess
