What a helpful and appropriate stopover place enroute along the West Coast!
People look for different things in accommodation. This was great for us on our road trip, but I'd bet it'd be a great place from which to explore the region. Mountain biking and tramping around here must be great!

We had our dog with us, and that was no problem.
The heaters worked for a cozy night. Everything was clean and pleasant with a real homey feel.
The lounge and kitchen area would be a buzz if we'd arrived earlier. This place was easy to find, even at dusk. Toilet & shower was just a few doors down. Kitchen was fully equipped. Lounge looked comfy. Gardens were great to wander in. Farm animals & pets were fun too.

I'd definitely stay here again. Town is lovely with lots to see and do and eat... and the gorge is amazing!

The place is pretty and the rooms are nice, there is a big parking lot, hot water, fully equipped shared kitchen.
Not easy to find, we drove past a couple of times before finding the driveway. The booking voucher said to check in before 8pm, we called at 7.30 to say we were on our way but no one picked up. We arrived at 7.40 and the office was empty and dark. A guy walked out of his room and told us the free rooms were all open so we picked one, spent the night and paid the following morning.
Wifi was not working.
Very authentic experience, including a little goat and hens around, but if it weren't for this guy we would have had to leave and find another place for the night.

Comfortable over-night stay in beautiful rural location. Basic but cosy, warm rooms. Although I can imagine the shared facilities of one shower and one toilet for three cabins being under strain, we had no problems. The kitchen is excellent, with oven, stove, microwave, sink, toaster, kettle all utensils, freezer, fridge and lots of storage space. The shared living area is also very comfy. Free wifi appreciated, but signal very patchy.

This is a lovely place to stay, away from the hustle and bustle of 'downtown' Hoki, especially at the height of tourist season. As other reviewers have noted, this is a small farm with lovely owners who will spoil you with kindness.

There's a full kitchen, plenty of space to sit and enjoy your surroundings, and cosy bedrooms for a great night's sleep. The bathroom was easily shared between everyone the night I was there. I'm very sorry I was staying only one night - highly recommended,

When we arrived we were greeted by the owners dog, lovely labrador! There are only 4 rooms on this property. It's a farm so they had a pig, horses, goat, chickens, cat and dog. The male owner absolutely lovely, would chat about anything and everything. Kitchen and lounge area really great facilities. Bathroom, there is one ly one to share between 4 rooms but we had no problems and 3 rooms were taken with couples! So no problem there. Free WiFi, works intermittently but that's fine as not on phone much anyway! Would definitely stay again.

We booked the cheapest accommodation we could find and we weren't expecting much but in fact this accommodation was fantastic. Set on a farm, we love animals so we spent time with the ducks, horses and dog! Very friendly guy who ran the hostel who didn't mind stopping for a chat about the animals and anything in general! Rooms were cosy, kitchen facilities good, but only one bathroom between 10people however we didn't experience too much of a problem! Thanks for a good night sleep!

No sign of a river anywhere!? Very basic but warm room due to a massive electric heater. Carpet needed a good clean though. Shared bathroom /shower needs a serious upgrade. Though fairly clean it looks very shabby and uninviting and shows a lack of respect for paying customers as with 4 cabins for rent (all using the one bathroom,) the least they can do is give it a lick of paint and make sure door knobs & locks work. Wifi did not work but that is typical of many areas in NZ! I would not stay here again.

This is a great place for a 1 night stop off. Kitchen facilities are great and we actually had the whole place to ourselves whilst we were there, so despite the fact there was only 1 shower and 1 toilet, this wasn't a problem for us, but even when full there aren't many people.
Hosts were great, welcomed us with a bowl of fresh eggs we could use, there is also a pig, horses and a dog, which woofs but is very friendly really.
Off the beaten track and a little out of Hokitika, but a good place to rest your head for a night.

Not a very friendly host but was enough communicative. May be he was overworked due to farm maitenance activities. You can move with a friendly dog, some sheep, pigs and hen . Nice location. We were a little apprehensive as only one bathroom and toilet was available for all guests [ about 10]. But no problem was faced. The hot shower equipment was a little confusing to operate.

There is no view of the river from anywhere nearby. It is only the cabins that are for hire. There is no cottage, only the owner's house. There is one room containing a wash hand basin and a shower, and off that there is one toilet (for potentially 10 customers). The kitchen and lounge was superb with excellent facilities. Everything was spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfortable. The carpark was very wet and muddy and it was hard to walk over to the rooms without carting mud in. But, to be fair, the price was extremely reasonable at $60 per night for a couple. So why complain? This is not a hotel, so the questions at the bottom are totally inappropriate.

Room Tip: This was not a hotel. It is four cabins with a covered way to the kitchen and bathroom.
