Fantastic hosts Sue and Den and of course the Ambassador Boz.
A lovely quiet spot with great clean and modern facilities and nothing was a problem for the hosts. The morning breakfast was great and we
hope to stay again.

Stopped over at Hokitika and stayed at Susan and Den’s beautiful home. Please follow Susan’s advice in their email and drive via SH6 if you’re coming from the north, if using GPS, you’ll probably ended up somewhere else further away which we did! Thankfully, we explored a little more and managed to find them.

We were immediately welcomed by Susan and Den and their super cute dog! After a long day of driving around, we indeed had a good night’s rest in the comfortable room which was clean and neat, and the bathroom was spotless!

Woke up to a hearty breakie prepared by Susan. Thank you for the yummy scrambled eggs and the spread of bread, cheese and plenty more. My wife and I enjoyed our stay in your beautiful humble home, and our never ending conversations. A pity we were only there for a short day, we hope to visit soon!

We only stayed one night whilst on a driving trip of the South Island but really should have stayed longer. The B and B is about 15 minutes from the town of Hokitika and is set in a few acres of very beautiful bushland. Den and Susan are a very friendly couple and we actually ended up eating dinner at the local hotel with them and the other couple who were also staying at the B and B. The bed and pillows are very comfortable, the whole room is very clean and breakfast was served in the house. Boz, the dog, is a great ambassador for the B and B and is very happy to have a ball thrown to him--- lots of times.😀Highly recommended.

My wife and I were a bit disappointed with this B&B, although it has some good aspects. We thought that the very positive reviews of other Trip Advisor writers were exaggerated. It is certainly true that the room was clean, the bed was excellent, the shower too (although no heat in bathroom) and that the hosts were friendly and helpful. But, the B&B is a bit farther away from Hokitika than one would wish - about a 20 minute drive. If it is raining, or after nightfall, it could take longer. The location is isolated and not so easy to find the first time. There is no Wifi and that is a problem. The room itself is small and we could barely manage to fit our belongings inside. There are no chairs and no table in the room, just one stool. One can prepare coffee and tea. For the value, it is overpriced in comparison with other B&Bs we experienced in NZ.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Mahinapua and recommend it to others who want a more rural experience. The place isn't hard to find if you have a GPS, though it will be easier if they had a web page -- including for making reservations directly.

The one area for improvement was the breakfast, which was a bit simple for the price we paid compared to other B&Bs. They can probably freshly bake something (even if store-bought) and offer a few more things to put on the toast.

The Mahinapua Retreat at Hokitika is amazing place to stay if you want a relaxed experience with a rural feel.
The Hosts Susan and Den were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of local attractions and places to eat.
If you like pets, Boz is a very friendly Border Collie who loves to play and meet anyone who is staying there.
The rooms are detached off the main house with an ensuite. They are cozy, warm, private and you don't feel like you are intruding into someone's private home.
Breakfast is continental which is served at your desired time.
Definetly a place to stay for couples and families.

We stayed with Susan and Den and Boz for 4 nights over the Easter break, the B&B is situated near the Tree Top walk, we had the most amazing weekend! Mountain biking, skiing, biscuiting and fishing in Lake Kaniere, Shanty town, beach action, hydroslide etc.. we love the West Coast heaps to do for the whole family. We have 3 children who all slept in 1 room and we took the other. We had a lovely BBQ with Susan and Den one night, and Susan very kindly organised a Easter Egg hunt for the kids which they really enjoyed. We had a great time staying here, the kids really enjoyed Boz the dog. Susan and Den are super friendly and really lovely hosts.

My friend and I stayed with Susan and Den at their clean, comfortable BnB. WOW, was the bed comfortable, the breakfast yummy and the company sublime. Hokitika is a fun place to visit and the Mahinapua Retreat is in a quiet, woodsy location, perfect for rest and rejuvination!
