Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My friend and I stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage at Amberlea before starting the Wilderness Trail. It was a lovely place to stay. Very comfortable and clean with everything we could possibly need. Great location with a nice walk into town to restaurants or the beach. The owner who was mowing his lawns was very friendly and helpful with local knowledge.

This property and it hosts have magic recipe for the perfect break away. So relaxed, attentive and thoughtful. Don't look anywhere else. Will be back asap. Cooked breakfast was included and was one of the many highlights of our stay.

Was excited to stay here as great ratings and had never had this experience. Butch and Sharon were amazing friendly hosts. Full continental and cooked brekkies set us up for a wonderful 60th birthday with our Hokitika besties. Weather fabulous too!

This is a very comfortable and friendly place to stay. We have never experienced better hospitality anywhere in the world. If you are looking for accommodation in Hokitika then it would be impossible to do better. I could write on and on about the house, the garden, the hosts suffice to say all are perfect. Thank you.

Fantastic hosts in a beautiful house and an easy walk into town/beach for dinner / drinks. The room was clean and very comfortable for our one night stay. Breakfast was good. Would highly recommend staying here if you're passing through Hokitika.

We absolutely loved this. We had one of the queen rooms with en suite but all the rooms looked lovely. Clean and spacious, warm and welcoming. There is an upstairs guest lounge area with tea/coffee etc and a fridge.TV with Sky and DVDs and books. Nice comfy sofas. We also had TV in our room. Butch and Sharyn could not have been more welcoming and made us a fabulous breakfast in the morning in their lovely kitchen. We felt right at home and could have stayed chatting all day! Easy walking to the town and out to the point for sunset views. One of the best places we stayed in New Zealand

Four of us stayed for one night only and we had double bed ensuite rooms, which were immaculately decorated and spotlessly clean. There is a small lounge area for guests with tea and coffee facilities, a tv and books. Butch and Sharyn were very welcoming, gave us a couple of ideas for our evening meal and mentioned some of the local sights and things to do. We had a very comfortable night and a very good cooked breakfast the next morning, with plenty of choice along with the usual continental-style alternatives. The accommodation is located within easy walking distance of the town.

The cottages are a great concept, the downside is no king size bed in this day and age is out of step with many accommodation houses. The beds were far too soft for us, they must be low cost foam type mattresses. The shower is too small for even average size people, Ben to pick up the soap and you knock the shower off. Not having a dryer to go with the washing machine is a missing item especially in this wet climate. Hosts were good, close to shops etc.
