Located right in Hokitika with easy access to everything, what a warm and cosy B&B this is. Beautifully managed by the hosts who are a fountain of local knowledge and gave great advice on local places to visit and eat. The warm atmosphere rubbed off on the guests and made it all the better for information exchange. Beautiful shared lounge for relaxation. Really enjoyed our stay here. WiFi was way better than the average we came across in NZ

Brian and Frances are the kindest, most thoughtful hosts I have encountered. Added to which, the accommodation is brilliantly comfortable with incredible attention to detail and the food is excellent. I'd go back tomorrow if I could...

Brian and Frances are hosts like you hope to meet. Teichelmann's is a charming place to stay. We stayed in the Garden Cottage, which is separate of the house and is private. It has its own terrace. The bed is great and the bathroom is spacious. The hosts serve a great breakfast. In short, Teichelmann's is a super location for this area.

We really enjoyed our stay at Teichelmann's B&B. Our host, Brian, was delightful, a font of local historical knowledge. He entertained us with stories during tea upon our arrival. The in-town location was convenient for walking to the beach and around town. The inn, with its quaint antique charm, is quite unique. The view of the historic library across the street was a bonus. The breakfast was hearty and very good.
The town itself, is very small and there was not much to do on a rainy October afternoon.

We stayed for one night and were welcomed with a pot of tea and homemade shortbread - very welcome after having been driving all day.
Friendly hosts who have created a lovely ambience in this B&B which has a very interesting history. Spotlessly clean B & B with some nice personal touches throughout. Gave us vouchers for a free drink at two different restaurants in town. Hosts shared good local knowledge with us.
Frances recommended the Aviation Centre/Museum in Blenheim (that was our next stop) and she was spot on - it is a wonderful visitor attraction.

One of the 3 best B&Bs we had during our 33 day driving tour of New Zealand! Interesting home, comfortable room, charming hosts, gourmet breakfast. I wish we could have stayed longer. Brian and Frances are very comfortable with conversation, which is the biggest reason we chose to stay at B&Bs. Brian has a biting English humor (think John Cleese and the Monty Python skits) that fits enjoyably with mine. We had many great laughs.

I think I must have suffered an early senior's moment by not writing a review after staying at the fabulous Teichelmann's B & B in February this year. It was a very bad time for NZ's South Island, we checked in for 2 nights the day after the terrible earthquake in Christchurch. We were feeling a bit rattled but our hosts Brian and Frances were calmness personified.
We're definitely NOT B&B people - hate sharing a house - so booked their garden room, a charming and comfy oasis with an ensuite and a verandah surrounded by hydrangeas in the garden. We arrived late in the day and Brian helped us with our luggage and then declared it "beer o'clock" so we sat in the garden with a cold beer from his outdoor fridge and much calming chat about the earthquake and where we'd been and where to go for dinner. Arriving back much later that night after an excellent meal we could have taken the side path to our room but instead chose to go in by the front door...our hosts were going beyond their duty - an impromptu supper with all the guests that kept us all from our beds until after midnight.
Brian and Frances are perfect hosts - warm & funny and are a delightful couple, We could tell that after our first breakfast (delicious) as all the guests were reluctant to leave....they made us feel like family. They have that very special "It" factor.
Our 2 nights at Teichy's gave us a good insight into NZ hospitality - they do it so well in those Shaky Isles.

My wife and I only stayed one night en route from Fox Glacier to Akaroa. I wish we had stayed longer. Frances and Brian offer fantastic hospitality in a wonderful period home in the centre of Hokitika. We were offered a choice of rooms and chose one on the ground floor overlooking the garden - large, comfortable, with private bathroom. Breakfast is a friendly, communal affair and Frances cooks a mean English breakfast. Hokitika itself is well worth exploring, Brian seemingly retired but a tireless voluntary worker with a host of local organisations is a mine of information on local history and architecture. We ate dinner at Cafe de Paris next door to the B & B (fine for a Sunday evening but not great), but there were a number of other options recommended by the hosts. If you're looking for an authentic period gem of a place I can't recommend this too highly.
