Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Large, open grassy site, a couple of clean flush toilets, and recycling/rubbish disposal. A block with “solar showers” - i think they are cubicles for you to hang your own shower up in, i didnt try.

The lake is paradise, kotuku were roosting in flax by boat ramp, great birdsong. I imagine it could be busy with boaties in the summer, but hardly a soul there, and perfect view of snowy mountains, amazing starry night sky.

DOC-run site with honour box payment. Loos and washing facilities spotless. Nearby glacial lake with a few walking trails. The site os a decent-sized meadow which, after Easter, was very quiet (half a dozen vans).

We stopped because it made sense to and enjoyed a very pleasant/quiet evening. Took a walk, saw a white heron, peaceful sleep.

This is a DOC campsite, very close to SH6. Fees are $6 per adult, to be paid at the honesty box. Overall we were surprised with the facilities, which were better than almost all the DOC campsites we've stayed at further south on the South Island. There was a nice picnic shelter with 4 sinks, the bathrooms were clean and had running water and lights on at night, and plenty of space to camp. We camped during a really rainy week, so unfortunately we couldn't enjoy the lake views.... But I would camp here again.

Very nice campsite next to a picturesque lake. Good quality facilities, lots of space, and did not feel crowded when we were there. Simple honesty box with tag like most DOC campsites.

Good fishing in the lake. Some sandflies but only a couple.

Large space to park and several trails to hike. Lovely lake. We parked in one spot for a while then left to go to the nearby Glow Worms Dell (free) at dusk. By the time we returned there were quite a few more campervans but we still had plenty of space to park without being on top our our neighbors. We did not pay our fees that evening, but a park ranger put the bag for fees under our windshield wiper and we turned it in in the morning before we departed. $21 nzd for family of 5.

SO MANY SANDFLIES! Beautiful spot on the lake, unfort. we had some loud campers, as most DOC sites no kitchen facilities. Biggest pain was the minimal bathroom light in the morning! price is good if you are just driving through - the lake is so pretty.

Lake Mahinapua is beautiful and the grounds are fantastic. The view of the lake are amazing, especially in winter. The amenities were clean. Great DOC's campground and would definitely come here again.

average lake view, quiet, spacious and lots of sites, toilets available, NZD 6 pp, located at your left hand side if you come from hokitika (well signposted), turn left to unpaved road and you will be there in less than 2 minutes.

Bardzo dużo ludzi, nawet poza sezonem. Mimo, że pole jest duże wszyscy się ściskają obok siebie (brak wyznaczonych miejsc). Zimna woda w kranie, toalety spłukiwane, zlewy do zmywania. Jezioro w mierę ładne, blisko głównej drogi ale zdecydowanie nic specjalnego.
