Check in was easy, had to wait for someone to come in from the cafe/bar though. Was woken early by phone call to say my Grandad wasn't doing good, and I had to leave right then to get back to Christchurch. Not long after I arrived, Grandad did pass away. No one at reception so rang through to cafe and explained there was a family emergency, had to go. Was booked in for another night so asked about a refund where lady replied "I don't decide who gets refunds, the office lady does" so left it at that as I was panicked. When I finally got back to Hokitika to get my car, which as I left in a hurry, was left at a friends, I found my phone charger wasn't there. Rang Stumpers and asked if they had found one, the lady on phone was rude and pretty much said "no sorry not one here" so thinking a staff member may have kept it, I've looked on internet, a Samsung fast charger is $70 to replace. So out of pocket for that as well as the night I didn't stay, I won't be back. Only bonus is how close to beach it is.…
Very clean rooms with the bare minimum, no extras - no cooktop in our room, no chair or table etc. Great location right in the centre of things, a perfectly fine place to rest your head if you’re not fussed about character
For a overnight stay not too bad. Shower head is at a very low level. If your over 6ft tall forget it . Otherwise all good nice and clean . Warm and comfortable. Everything is within walking distance from you accommodation.
I wasn't too sure about staying here as the reviews are quite mixed. SO pleased we did! Our room was lovely and clean, reception staff friendly and helpful. To get to your rooms, there is a locked fire door that your Room Key unlocks, so nice and safe. We were there on a Thursday night, lovely and quiet. Great location as it's right in town!! We ate at Stumpers Restaurant, as usual...., (I have reviewed that too) but superb food, staff and always love the ambience! Would definitely stay here again!
A lovely lady checked us in. Our room looked clean and smart as did the bathroom. However, we soon came to realise that the room lacked the basics- aircon, a chair to sit on, somewhere to hang your clothes. The room was very warm overnight so sleeping was uncomfortable. There were lots of bikers riding around making lots of noise (no fault of the owners) but because we had to have all the windows open, it was very noisy. We ate our evening meal in the bar and that was very good. Probably wouldn’t stay again.
