Faultlessly positioned ocean view room for panoramic view of the ocean and sunset. Sadly the West Coast kicked in and it was wet and/or overcast the day we arrived so no chance of seeing the sunset, and the view wasn't especially inviting. Following morning was brighter and much more impressive coastal image. Can easily see how sunset can be impressive, whether that be from in bed of on the balcony - - just a shame we didn't get to witness that for ourselves. Fine with room facilities, but suspect that age might be starting to become a factor and a bit of rejuvination might help. Staff excellent and communicative. Problem with lift when we arrived and basically told to avoid it and use the stairs until fixed. Presumably because of location, the repair man was some time away from arriving. No problem for us, but could have been awkward for those with mobility issues, although staff did inspire confidence that some way would have been found to handle that. Easy walking to and around the township. Unlikely to be on the West Coast for quite some time to come, but happy to go back here if/when we are, and also to recommend to those that are going.

We headed over for our anniversary, wanted somewhere peaceful, quiet, and the coast has that amazing rugged coast so a view was a must. We stayed in the penthouse. Checking in was easy and friendly enough. Amenities wise it had what we needed, very comfortable bed 10/10, great set up in the bed room to watch the ocean and having that as the view when you wake up was just fabulous, view 10/10, location 10/10 and a large bath to soak in at the end of the day 10/10 (loose the blue lights though!) Having USB ports by the bed was a great feature. However, little things that did let the room down. Given the hotel elevator opens in the lounge I expected to have some noise with that but I did not expect to hear people's conversations while they were in it so I did not sit in the lounge much, there was a high pitch alarm/buzzer that went off in the middle of the night waking us both up-perhaps a malfunctioning smoke alarm or elevator alarm? The floor mat in the lounge had stains (as did the couch)and the start of a hole, Having a throw tucked over the seat of a couch did make me nervous as to what was underneath it. Bedside pendants needed a good dust, the walls needed wiping down -lots of scuffs and cracks that needed some at attention around large window in bedroom and skirting in lounge. Wifi was shocking! These issues would not stop me from staying again however but for the price point it needs mentioning.

This hotel is perfectly situated and cleverly designed so the rooms (in the block we were in, anyway) were all facing the sea. Looking over the magnificent ocean from your balcony is hard to beat, morning or night. Comfortable beds, good showers, and the cafes and greenstone (jade) of Hokitika just around the corner. Definitely the best place in town and one of the best sea and sunset views in the world.

This hotel is well located on the beach but take care not to be in the driftwood section of the hotel. Rooms have no view and have a noisy door to enter the hallway. The room was really basic with no nice additions. Bathroom had no storage or space AT ALL for sponge bag or even a toothbrush! Completely empty bar fridge. In the 24 hours we were there I only saw ONE staff member, the one that checked us in. It was a completely impersonal space.

The beachfront was one of our stops during our honeymoon. We were so excited to arrive. The reception staff were pleasant. We check into our room and the view was beautiful. Room was nice and clean. So far so good. We decided to dine in the restaurant on our first night, we spent around $150 all up for 2 entrees, 1 main and some drinks. We left full and happy. Later that night we decided to order a desert to be brought to the room. This was a hour late and I had to call several times to see what the hold up was. It finally arrived and they charged us a extra $3 for delivering it to the room, even after being a hour late! Seemed abit rude considering he had just spend abit on dinner too. So $18 for a very average desert was abit of a let down but I decided not to worry and let it go. The next day we decided to get take out instead and have dinner on our balcony looking at the stunning view. Unfortunately we had no cutlery given and there wasn’t any in the room. I went to reception and they kindly said to go ask at the restaurant, so I did. The same lady was there. She tried to charge me a $5 fee for borrowing a fork. Day time robbery! I was very disappointed in her service. You could tell she didn’t want to help us out. I think after paying over $400 for the room and spending $150 in the restaurant the night before borrowing a fork wouldn’t be a issue. Did she expect us to eat with our fingers? I went to reception to voice my concern and they quickly helped. After this we no longer wanted to dine at the restaurant for breakfast, in-fact, I didn’t want to stay for the last night. She made me feel very uncomfortable.
