Absolutely perfect! From the moment we checked in and happened to meet the lovely lady who was attending to the apartments (forgive us for not asking your name!), to the moment we walked into our apartment, Chief Shain, we knew we'd chosen well. The apartment was exceptionally clean and had everything we needed for our 2 night stay. We also made use of the separate laundry facilities downstairs and once again, everything was provided! We loved the 'Fireys' decorations / history placed throughout the unit as well. The Fire Station is conveniently close to the main 'strip' and even closer to the waterfront to have the elusive 'paunamu' stone find you! And thanks again to our lovely host who directed us to fabulous 'BonzNStones' across the road who confirmed that two small greenstones from our ashamedly 20+ bag collection, had indeed found us! This place was recommended to me by Hokitika i-Site (after a couple of bad experiences with dodgy hotels that paid to appear at the top of the listings, I always get in touch with the local information centre for recommendations.) This is definitely the place to stay if you're looking for good quality. My room had a big bed area with the kitchenette next to it, and then a big lounge area with a glass door and balcony area. Everything was in perfect condition, and the owner went out of his way for me many times throughout my trip. Instead of a key or card, you just have an access code which they tell you before you arrive. I found it really helpful to a) not have to fiddle with a card and b) not faff around with checking in after taking two flights from Auckland. I was in the Chief Millard room on the ground floor, which is accessible for people with disabilities. The photos show just stairs outside the doors, but that's not actually the entrance of the motel - the entrance is around the back and there's a shallow ramp. Then when you get inside it's entirely flat floor except for the small lip of the carpet in the room. There's a rail by the toilet and a rail and seat in the shower. All the rooms are cleaned to Covid Clean standards and their website says the ventilation is designed to remove 99% of viruses. The rooms have a kitchenette and they're located just a few minutes from a lot of restaurants, which I found really useful as someone who needs to get takeaways due to covid risk (I have medically vulnerable family members). All in all, this place was excellent! Supposedly they're one of the top accommodation places on the West Coast and it shows.…

Beautifully renovated and luxurious. Well appointed with everything we needed for our stay. Lots of space for the 2 couples although there wouldn’t be enough comfortable seating for 6 which is what the apartment sleeps. We had a very comfortable queen bed but the other 2 rooms were only double beds which were a little small. Very quiet and handy to everything. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

Wholly fire truck this place is spectacular. If you are looking at photos online they do not do this place justice. Every detail has been thought of and has been finished to perfection. The rooms are very spacious with a large bed and comfortable couch. The kitchen area has a fridge and a microwave but you are only a short walk to restaurants and cafes. This accomodation is one of the highlights of my trip to New Zealand.

Simply stunning - beautiful accommodation with all the amenities that you could wish for in your hotel stay. Lovely to stay in this historic building that has little pieces of history attached to each of the rooms. Comfortable bed, lovely spacious bathroom, well appointed. Small kitchen area and generous lounge space. Lovely & quiet and staff very friendly and welcoming. Also a laundry area available. Just stay here - you won't be disappointed.

Beautifully appointed and stylish. Comfortable bed and pillows, lovely fluffy towels. Never stayed in a place without a reception before, but access was easy, bit weird not having keys, but there were no issues with anything. plenty of parking. Close to everything.

A Súper modern, spacious, well stocked, well appointed, super comfortable room with such an interesting history. The beds are the most comfortable to date on our New Zealand trip. With 9 or 10 foot ceilings, it adds even more space to the room. Love the retro refrigerator. Appreciated the Nespresso machine with pods for our use. And, there is even a bit of milk in the refrigerator for our coffee in the morning. Parking is super convenient, located right in the back. It was an easy walk to downtown or the beach from here too.

We loved our 1 nite stay here. Our flight from Christchurch to Hoki was canceled so we ended up being shuttled through Arthurs Pass (a beautiful drive!). After being dropped off at the airport, and picking up our rental- and we finally arrived we could not have been more pleased with our accommodation. The room was spacious and spotless, and the bed was amazing. Communication with management before and during our stay was fantastic- very responsive to my questions. We had breakfast at Stumpers, which I definitely recommend as the french toast was delish! Looks like a fun place at night with a bar, pool tables etc. Hokitika is a cute little beach town and if you go, make sure to stay at the Fire Station!

The Hokitika Fire Station is a beautifully restored building in the city centre. It is so charming in its character, and the finishes are excellent inside and out. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need for a short stay. Be aware there is no lift so you have to go up stairs to the second floor rooms. There was parking available out the back for us, wifi and a small kitchenette in the room. Of course the red fire struck parked outside adds some authenticity. You can walk around the city centre easily from here and take your pick of restaurants and shopping right on your door step. Hokitika Beach is close by too.
