Detailed Reviews
Absolutely perfect accommodation. Very clean, quiet little cottage. Well appointed with everything you need Fridge freezer and dishwasher. Plenty of cuterly and plates and cooking utensils.
A washing machine and even washing powder and pegs are just thoughtful things that make traveling life a breeze, We enjoyed our stay very much and wouldn't hesitate to come back.

The cottage was a separate unit, well appointed and had a veranda where you could sit. The cottage had wheelchair access but the gravel access might be a barrier. It was clean and had everything we needed including a washing machine. Although we were the front cottage on the road it was a quiet area and we were not disturbed. Parking was a bit tricky, and though we could've parked on the road we chose to be close to the car for uppacking and packing. I left a library book at the Cottage and it was posted to my home at no charge--great service.

Butch and Sharon are truly natural friendly people. Everyone seems to instantly like both of them. They are beyond accommodating and go the extra mile to make you feel welcome and at home in there wonderful home.
We stayed on the second floor of the main house in a room with a shared bath. My wife doesn’t like sharing a bath and verbalized that when we looked at the place before we booked. Butch was quick to say “well, we won’t rent the other bedroom so you won’t have to share the bath”.
We protested this because we didn’t want to be the reason for them not to rent the other room but he insisted and that’s the way it was.
The breakfasts were the best we’ve had in the two weeks we’ve been in the country. We will miss it tomorrow morning.
It really is the type of place you will remember for years after.
Thanks to the both of them for everything.

My daughter and I stayed in one of the cottages for two nights in August. Our cottage was spotlessly clean with all the amenities you would expect. The bathroom included a washing machine and this was particularly useful because we had been travelling for a week. The underfloor heating in the bathroom was an unexpected bonus as was rhe clothes rack. We couldn't fault the facilities and enjoyed our stay immensely. Comfortable beds as well.

+1
We had spent the previous two nights in a room at a very sub standard motel which was more expensive than Amberlea Cottage. I have to admit to welling up when we arrived here. We were blown away. It’s lovely.
Two large bedrooms, large living room, kitchen diner and large bathroom which also housed a washing machine. The well equipped kitchen included a Fisher and Pykel (spelling?) dish drawer. A microwave, full sized cooker and a large fridge/freezer. Essential if you plan any self catering.
There was a wonderful friendly welcome by the owners. Entry is by code so no need to even return a key. The property, one of four identical is almost brand new and so reasonably priced. I can’t find the words to praise accommodation enough.

Amberlea cottage had everything needed for a pleasant and comfortable stay. It’s well set up in regard to its appliances (washing machine and dishwasher) as well as the normal kitchen crockery, cutlery and utensils. Hokitika is a small coastal town, with a pebbly beach fronting a sometimes rough sea, but a nice spot to “get away from it all”.

Great place to stay and as a previous reviewer said they set the bar high. The cottages are very well kitted out for self catering in and spotlessly clean. There is even a washing machine in the bathroom! It is a short walk into town if you want to eat out otherwise go to the beach. The location is very quiet and easily accessible from SH6. I would highly recommend this location of you are doing a self drive up or down the west coast.

I can’t rate this place enough. It’s immaculately presented. Has everything you could possibly need during your stay. We only booked one night on the advice that there was nothing to do in Hokitika. I wish we had ignored that advice and stayed longer.
This place is a quaint little town with a stunning beach and spectacular sunset. Views to the mountains and within driving distance of Arthur’s pass. Hokitika gorge and treetop walkways to mention only a few. We didn’t get to do much having only booked one night. Don’t make the mistake if you come here of limiting your stay. You could easily fill two to three full days. Oh and Amberley cottage owners run a B&B which is just beautifully maintained. I would highly recommend this as a stop on any South Island tour.

Fantastic cottages and would highly recommend staying here if in Hokitika. Great hosts & 2 bedroom cottage was spotlessly clean & very warm. Appreciated washing machine & dryer given we have been on a west coast road trip. Also suggest trying whitebait sandwich at Cafe 39 !!
