We (family of 3) stayed in this lovely motel for 2 nights during the school holidays in January on our way back from the Abel Tasman National Park. Friendly and helpful hosts, great location, short walk into town, spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds and a very quiet room, with everything you need for a perfect stopover. Highly recommended!
Overnight stop at Stopforths which I had booked during lockdown. Sonja was just lovely-knowledgeable and helpful. Plus gave us a discount to reflect the quieter period which she didn’t have to. Big bed and spotless. Quick scenic walk around the beach to town. It was the most stunning day there, warm and balmy!! Loved the beach sculpture.
Not only is Stopforth's the best motel in Hokitika, their service was outstanding. We had come from less salubrious accommodation so it was 'pure luxury'. Lovely big room, big comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. Enjoyed the beautiful smelling amenities also. I had a bit of a mountain bike accident and Sonja the owner drove out to find me in a van so she could bring me and my bike back. It turned out I needed an ambulance but Sonja used to be a First Responder so she took charge and I was very well looked after. So not only was Sonja the perfect host (with a great sense of humour) but if anything goes wrong healthwise, you'll be in great hands. So if we come back, we'll definitely be staying at Stopforths. Highly recommend.
This is a great place to stay in Hokitika and use as a base to explore the epic natural sights of the West Coast. Owners are friendly and knowledgable, rooms are modern, roomy and tidy. Rooms all have wifi, a large TV with a Netflix subscription, and a floor level good-sized shower. There's a park across the road with a playground for kids, and the main street is a short walk or a couple of mins drive. Was quiet at night.
Spent two nights here on a roadie. Cheerful, experienced hosts run a top-notch operation. Smart rooms, great beds, clean as a whistle. Lot of interesting history in this place too - was a yard for the family’s team of draughthorses for many decades early last century! Would stay again.
