Just stayed with Shirley & Aliststair at Oak Lodge. Really beautiful, immaculate, comfortable accommodation. Everything there you could possibly wish for. Breakfasts excellent - home cooked muffins fantastic. Alistairs local knowledge so helpful in route planning.

We booked via booking.com. And did not read that they did not allow children under 12. Despite that they took us in with our 2.5 yr old daughter. Host Alister made our daughter feel at home from the very beginning. The lamb feeding, Sheep feeding, and goldfish feeding was enjoyed by all, especially our 2.5 year old. The breakfast was excellent. We also shared the earthquake at the lodge. Alistair was calm and helped everyone else stay calm. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The Oaks is a great B&B if you are looking for a quiet night in a lovely environment. From the moment we arrived our hosts Shirley and Alastair made us feel welcome. Our room was of a good size with ensuite, and the guest amenities include a billiard room, tennis court, pool and spa. The home is just outside of Greymouth with several good restaurants and pubs nearby. Shirley cooks a wonderful breakfast while Alistair provides useful information about touring in the area. During our stay a major earthquake occurred during the night. Alastair and Shirley were brilliant in reassuring all of the guests as well as checking we were all ok. They made a potentially difficult situation seem less frightening.

What a pity I looked up this B&B on booking.com but have not reserved it through them, for I would really LOVE to leave my review on this B&B on their site as we'll. Upon arrival we have been greeted by Shirley and a second later by Alistair He immediately told his wife that he will take it from there, although she already explained pretty much everything to us in this nice, no pressure way. Very soon I and my BF realized why. He hasn't said a lot, for he was preoccupied with one burning him inside out concern: - how did you find us? -booking.com -oh, no!!! Did you book through them as well? -no, we have realized that, according to them, you have only 2 rooms left and we looked up the direction and rushed to your place -oh, good, said he, whipping cold sweat from his

Response from ASInman, Owner at Oak Lodge Homestay

Well Im sorry this has taken so long to respond to, I have just found this. This is the wife incidently! This review is highly exagerated for instance there is no lock on the room that the pool table is in we dont close this down at 8oclock and so on and so forth. Yes we do close the kitchen down and start cleaning it when I have finished cooking breakfast. You know dont want to working still at midnight. The sausages yes they are small they are breakfast sausages thats why. So sorry nothing was to your liking, but it sounds like nothing ever would be no matter where you are. Signs are for people who delight in rapping the toilet seat in loo paper they use the whole roll and believe me is difficuilt to remove. I dont know which one in the kitchen you are refering to but if you like frozen milk in your tea or coffee then I suppose you wouldnt understand or the fact that people put their dirty and wet dishes back in the draws. I hope you dont like clean plates or cups.

What a wonderful stay! This B&B is a beautiful and cozy farm house, located in a short drive away from the city and its restaurants and shops. The lovely hosts go above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Everything is superb in this B&B: the super clean, beautiful and comfortable room, the modern bathroom and great shower, the delicious handmade breakfast, the nice guest lounge with a selection of coffee and teas available, the chat with Alastair. He recommended to us to visit the Pancake Rocks and we're so glad we did it! Such a beautiful place! Shirley's breakfast was just perfect, all fresh and homemade! And we got a bonus there being able to feed the sheep and pick up eggs from the hen house. It was our best accommodation in the South Island! Totally recommend this
