Good food, gracious hosts. Grace under pressure when the power failed--which apparently never happens. Shirley still got all of our breakfast orders out with her gas stove. Lovely common area room with reading nooks, coffee, tea and-- the cookies! I dare you to have just one. The history of the place and the careers of Alistair and Shirley are fun to see in the family pictures in the hallways. One of the roosters starts half heatedly crowing intermittently at about 5:30 but you can turn over and sleep in. After breakfast, be sure to go out with Alistair and don the provided boots to feed the brassy Molly (sheep) and crew, then go gather the eggs. Comfortable, relaxed place.
Alastair & Shirley made us feel so welcome ... such a beautiful home and setting ... Alastair was so happy to share the local attractions with us . Shirley's baking & breakfast was to die for ! The rooms & bathrooms were nicely decorated and made you feel like you were at home .. nice little touches like dressing gowns, hairdryers and your own living room made all the difference . After a fantastic breakfast of eggs Benedict & smoked salmon and fresh baked muffins we went and feed the sheep and collected the fresh laid eggs. It really was a lovely experience . It would've been lovely to have stayed for one more night .
Big rooms! A friend and I were traveling around the South Island with West Coast as one of our destinations. We had twin room. The room was huge! Alistair and Shirley were great hosts. Fruit cake upon arrival! Alistair helped us with directions and suggested places and things for us to visit and do. Also gave us directions - more reliable than my GPS! The breakfast next morning was like top -notch! Blueberry muffins were so yum! Cooked breakfast was delicious! And the continental breakfast spread was so scrumptious that you have to take a second to decide where to start from. And the COFFEE!!! I couldn't help but have seconds and thirds that morning with coffee! Alistair also took the time (despite the heavy downpour) to show us around the farm and we had great yarn with both…
My father and I stayed there last night ... Shirley and Alastair are great hosts and gave us good feedback on things to do ... we got a room with an attached bath and an extra room at the side ... we also got to do our laundry :) ... breakfast this morning was home-made blueberry muffins and scrambled eggs and bacon ... highly recommend!!
We got a room here with about an hour's notice after the earthquake diverted us from our trip to Kaikoura, and we appreciated the warm and cosy roof over our heads so much! Alastair and Shirley were excellent hosts, and there were some really nice features like a sauna that guests could use for free. Breakfast was delicious, especially Shirley's freshly-baked blueberry muffins. We would definitely stay here if we were in Greymouth again!
