My husband and i were very happy with hour stay- the cottage was quite nice and breakfast was delicious! We recommend this location because it is quiet and only a few minutes from the train. The sheep are friendly and so were our hosts!
We spent two very comfortable nights at Oak Lodge. Our hosts were welcoming and worked hard to make all aspects of the stay enjoyable. The breakfasts were so big that there was no need for lunch. Our room was large and clean and we could have drinks on the balcony and watch the sunset. There is also a guests lounge which was a great place to meet the other guests. Would happily stay there again.
Our massive room, with ample balcony overlooking the pastureland, was comfortable and quiet. There was a downstairs lounge and an upstairs lounge/kitchenette. Beautiful gardens surround the property and the Inman's sheep and chickens are great fun to feed (under Alastair's supervision). Both Alastair and Shirley were very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was delicious!
We love this place. I had stayed at Oak Lodge several years ago, while on a motorcycle trip with a friend, and wanted to make sure that my wife also had the chance to experience Alistair's and Shirley's home and hospitality. Mission accomplished. She liked it so much, I had a hard time convincing her to leave. The home itself is beautiful and the room we stayed in -- I believed it was called the Oak Room -- was spacious. Shirley is an excellent cook and we benefited, like others, from Alistair's generosity when he took us on a tour of his hobby farm, feeding the sheep and luring the eels out of their hiding spots in the nearby creek. Really a pleasure to stay there . . . .
Quite a large B&B but very amenable and hosts. The room was quite big, spotlessly clean and well furnished with a good view back towards Greymouth. It is ideally situated for local walks and nearby attractions. An excellent breakfast was served along with muffins we took out with us.
