Breakers is a first class boutique B&B set on a cliff top, sea view location. Our 1st floor spacious suite with enormous well appointed en-suite bathroom and balcony overlooking the sea was clean and comfortable with excellent facilities including lounge area, TV, free WiFi, coffee/tea and on site parking. Jan, our host, made us very welcome and explained the area in detail with valuable tips on eating out at local restaurants/pubs etc. Breakfast was delicious - cereal, fruit, yoghurt etc as well as a cooked option. Jan, who is a mine of information about NZ, gave each party a typed, detailed set of travel directions for their journey, including several points of interest along the way and where to get a good lunch too. For those staying longer she had a wealth of information about local walks and sites of interest. Breakers is a great place to stay and the extra personal touches that Jan provides makes her guests’ visits even more enjoyable. We would be happy to return and recommend it to anyone travelling along the West coast of South Island.

We were welcomed to Breakers on a beautiful sunny West Coast day by Jan and shown around the house and to our room. Wow! The views from our room were just beautiful. The sun was sparkling on the sea and the sound of the waves almost lulled one into a trance. Our room was a great size with a small sitting area that lead out onto a deck looking directly out over that view again. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom was massive with the best shower views I've ever seen!
This boutique accommodation is just a short amble down to a stunning beach where you can explore the rock pools at low tide and hopefully spot huge orange starfish. We walked along here at 7.30am and enjoyed the fresh sea air.
Breakfast was lovely with a set menu of cooked and continental - a choice of homemade muesli, bacon and eggs, eggs poached, boiled or scrambled, pancakes and endless supply of toast.
Jan was truly outstanding. Her knowledge of the West Coast is second to none and we were so impressed when she gave everyone their own personal itinerary of things to do and see on their forward travels throughout the South Island. Indeed we took her advice and found the lovely Pororari River walk so peaceful and picturesque and the stop at Punakaiki well worth the time spent there.
I can thoroughly recommend Jan and Breakers Boutique Accommodation to anyone who is wanting to experience New Zealand at its very best.
Thanks Jan - we will be back for sure.

Shelly thanks so much for your lovely review. I love that you put "wow" - just as on arrival and seeing the views from your room. I too love the sun sparkling on the sea - like diamonds. So glad your stay coincided with the low tides to enable you to get onto the rockpools for the starfish. They are an added bonus and super special to see. Hope you do make it back to stay with us, it will certainly be our pleasure to see you and Greg again. Warm regards Jan

While the accommodation and the views themselves are worth a 5, it is the genuine hospitality and warmth of the host Jan that makes this B&B stand out above the rest. Your views of this wild and natural beach, sleeping with the sound of crashing waves, and the clean and bright rooms are all incredible. But the hosts interaction with us, the personable conversations, and the input in things to do and what to see were most memorable. Highly recommended.

Charles thanks so much for your amazing review. Really touched with your review and comments regarding the warmth of your stay and just so glad you enjoyed yourselves and all we have to offer here at Breakers. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you and Cindy - having the opportunity to meet such wonderful people such as yourselves is one of the main reasons we do this "job" if we can call it that. I loved our chats together and glad you found them as enjoyable as I did. Wishing you both all the best - until we meet again. Warmest regards Jan

We have just returned from our 7th trip to New Zealand and as we planned this trip, yet again, the first accommodation that we booked was Breakers Boutique B&B.

Why? Because in our opinion overall it offers the best holiday destination that we have come across in New Zealand. The views from the room and balcony are truly amazing, for the more energetic there are wonderful walks along their almost deserted beach. The rooms are extremely comfortable, quiet and spacious, watching the sun set over the sea is magical. Breakfast choices are both cold and hot (being cooked to order) using local produce. Above all the information that Jan supplies on the journey to and from Breakers is second to none. Jan and Stephen’s knowledge of the surrounding area and the West Coast is truly remarkable, they not only know all the walks, tracks and rides in detail but in all cases have sampled them all. Even if you are going further afield, either north or south, they will discuss the locations and also distribute detailed information for your onward trip.

This destination for anyone travelling on the West Coast of the South Island should not be missed and should we return for our 8th visit, Breakers Boutique B&B will once again be the first booking we make.

Wow Kathy and Ray, you guys shine a bright light on my heart with your most amazingly kind and heart felt words. Having you come back time after time is truly a privilege for us as we know you have many choices but to then also read these most lovely words I'm left speechless partly due to the tears streaming down my face. One of the many joys of running Breakers and sharing our wee slice of paradise is the people we meet - people like you who we are fortunate enough to have go from guest to good friends. We really do hope their is an 8th visit and we'll be waiting with open arms - and open hearts. Big cyber hugs (cos they are the only ones allowed currently)… Jan and Stephen

I love to travel and moved to NZ about 14 years ago. I've been fortunate to visit and stay in many places over the years. The Breakers may be the best I've experienced in NZ. The location is stunning, the property is very special, and the accomodation was so comfortable. Local art in our room made it even more special. We enjoyed a two day stay just after New Year's Day to relax and unwind. There couldn't have been a better place for our break. Jan is an incredible host, full of local knowledge and with such a lovely way about her that the guests just feel at home. Breakfast was delicious and served in the dining area with another great view. (Jan even provided me with gluten-free toast on request.) We also really enjoyed the chance to chat with other guests. An added bonus is that we could order a homemade pizza after one long day. This was brought to us by Jan on our veranda one evening. My partner and I both agreed that we'll return for another stay, and I feel that Breakers will make a great solo 'retreat' escape for me in the future as well.

Wow thanks so much Carmen for your amazing review. How to reply - you've left me blushing. Really great to read how much you loved your stay here and appreciated all the little things that can make a difference, artwork, our location, those views - yep they still capture me daily too. Pizza is a nice option to finish the day with and was glad you took that opportunity to relax for the evening. Certainly look forward to having you back for the solo retreat stay and sharing more of our little slice of paradise with you. Warmest regards Jan

We needed a break from a hectic life and were very fortunate to discover 'Breakers'. The room had a ten million dollar view that forced you to keep staring at the mesmerizing breaking of the waves. Before you know it, you get sucked in to focus on relaxing and nothing else! What more can you ask for?
The room was spacious and well positioned to optimise the beautiful views and surroundings. You will have to go far to find a better accommodating and truly caring host than Jan. We will surely be back!

My husband and I chose Breakers as a 6-night R&R retreat after COVID lockdown. We wanted somewhere to relax with lovely views and lots of options for long walks - we were not disappointed! Our spacious room had the most amazing views of the Tasman and a separate seating area and deck where you could relax in the evening and watch the sunset. The beach is very accessible from the property and offered lots of opportunity for gathering driftwood, stones, and if you are lucky even greenstone.
Jan was a wonderful host and has an incredible knowledge of the local area. She was able to tell us in detail about many of the local walks and was kind enough to organise a bike trip for us on the Heritage trail which was a highlight of our trip.
We especially appreciated the company of Jan's gorgeous dogs who were always pleased to see us when we returned from our outings.
We both felt very relaxed after our small break and hope to get back again soon.

Thanks so much Kathy for your lovely review and kind words. Super glad you enjoyed your stay with us and all the exploring - but especially your day out on the West Coast Wilderness Trail - a great way to sample a good cross section of the amazing scenery the West Coast has to offer. Made my heart sing seeing you enjoy the company of our dogs - especially our Ziggy-boy. Sending snuggles for your Ziggy and look forward to seeing you and Chris back again sometime soon. Warmest regards Jan

Breakers is one of those B & B’s that you book on reviews and when you arrive just blows your mind.
Set in a bush setting right on a private beach with magnificent ocean vistas and sunsets to die for all from your cabin lounge leaves memories never to be forgotten.
Jan and Stephen were the perfect hosts and Stephen also made his time available to take us on a very informative tour of local historic old coal and gold mines imparting a wealth of knowledge about this beautiful place.
Whilst the location appears isolated ( its attraction actually) you are only a 30 minute drive to Greymouth and a similar distance to the world famous pancake rocks at Punakaiki.
I can’t leave without mentioning the breakfasts, part of the package👍👍and like the accommodation and hosts top of the score sheet.
Do it ! you won’t regret it!

Thanks so much Glen and Lyn for your most lovely review and kind words. This place blew my mind when I found it so I loved reading it blew yours too! Was super excited when you mentioned your interest in history and glad Stephen was able to take you out on a guided tour up the 10 mile valley. So much history in our region and we love sharing it with our guests. Greymouth is actually only a 10 minute drive from us so close enough for dining options and all the "town" needs with Puni the 30 minute drive. Look forward to seeing you back again sometime and sharing more of our history with you. Nga Mihi Jan and Stephen

We decided to treat ourselves after our Paparoa Track walk and we found the most amazing bed and breakfast just south of Punakaiki .
This is a “ must stay “ on the West Coast
It has the most incredible views out over the Tasman Sea from your room or the spa pool!!!!
The beach in front is dramatic with a waterfall cascading down on to it .
Jan was Wonderful host and provided great home cooking !
Yes I am raving but if you’re heading that way … stay! It will be worth it!
