We stayed at Paroa Hotel only for one night but wish we’d stayed longer! We were pleasantly greeted and looked after by Bernie. He was very helpful with information about the area and things to see and do in your travels north or south. The facilities were exceptionally clean and tidy, including our suite and the hotels dining areas. Our room had a deck out the back with a lovely view across the well manicured gardens toward the sand dunes. The room was modern and very comfortable with everything you’d expect to find in a quality hotel. The food was spectacular and had excellent portion sizes. As it was only 10 minutes from Greymouth town centre this made it easy to enjoy the area.
We couldn’t recommend the Paroa Hotel highly enough and we are already looking forward to our next visit.

Having visited Franz Josef glacier and Hokitika gorge earlier in the day we were all tired and hungry as we headed into Greymouth . Came across Paroa hotel a little outside the town and decided to have something to eat and surf the web for some accommodation. As we drove into the car park there was a couple coming out of their room and we asked them what the standard was like and they said they were very happy.

We went inside and having been greeted by the friendly staff we spoke with the owner Cath . She showed us the room while we were waiting for the meal we had ordered and the deal was done.

There were two large bedrooms with queen beds , a kitchenette and spacious bathroom. Spotless clean and great value for money.

Kids and adults enjoyed the meal served by Nicky who showed great attention and interest in us. Cath joined us when we were finished and we swapped stories for around 30 minutes. A wonderful friendly host I would highly recommend this property for food and stay.

Im mostly a Four Seasons/Ritz Carlton traveller, but this place is a wonderful little gem on the west coast. We stayed just for a night as we drove down the coast and the hotel/motel was wonderful - we had room 1 and it was spotless and comfortable. We also eat at the great little restaurant after a walk on the stunning beach. The staff were super friendly and helpful and after a great nights sleep we headed off down to Franz Joseph. Highly recommended.

Our room was large, clean and comfortable. Within easy walking distance to the beach. Hospitality from the owner and staff were the tops. The hotel offers a great restaurant and bar with some unique nightly selections/specials excellently prepared. Ate there the two nights of our stay. No pretensions of anything more than just a great down to earth place to stay, eat and drink.

Due to delays in flights and then access to our hire car we did not arrive until 8.30. We had sent a message advising we would be late. On arrival, we were welcomed by Alan and advised they would keep the kitchen open if we needed to eat.
We quickly ordered before being shown to our room which was very comfortable, great big beds and the best pillows.
Back to the restaurant for a wonderful meal with great variety. Between the 4 of us we had a curry, pork roast, roasted cauliflower soup and ribs.
Alan also too, the time to provide advice on sights to see around Greymouth including a trip up to Punakaiki which wasn’t on our list but well worth it.
Highly recommend

My friends and I had an awesome stay at the Paroa hotel recently. The accommodation was very clean and well equipped. Off street parking was handy as well. The food in the restaurant was first class (especially the whitebait!!) as was the substantial breakfast. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Many thanks to Bernie and Alan for a memorable stay and we would thoroughly recommend the Paroa Hotel to all travelers on the West Coast.

The hotel is located near the beach where you can run, walk, or ride a bike for miles. For runners like me, the trail is safe and well kept. There are blue penguins on the coastline. I didn’t get to see one, but my family did. Staff are friendly and accommodating. The room has a kitchen, dining area, living room, and a back patio. The hotel has a restaurant, bar, meeting room, bottle shop, game room, and most of all, the home made pies. We enjoyed our stay and will be back at Paroa Hotel.

Don’t be misled by the impressive menu, the meal itself was hugely disappointing. The chicken parcels contained a sliver of chicken and were pretty greasy... the chips were even worse. The scallops were clearly frozen and then cremated... we asked for vegetables but got chips with scallops but these were changed for soggy vegetables.... our worst meal in five weeks travelling through NZ

We were most fortunate in selecting this hotel to stay at for our trip by road from Picton to Greymouth. It is situated just 6kms south of Greymouth on the main highway. Traffic noise is not an issue.
The hotel has been a family run concern for 70years. It has undergone extensive renovations of all rooms and the actual hotel, restaurant/bar area. All expertly done and very aesthetic. Bernie, the owner & his family make guests so welcome. He often comes to chat while guests are having dinner. A very cheerful chap. Rooms are extremely modern with all that anyone could wish for. The on-site restaurant is an added bonus with excellent meals.
This hotel is recommended.

This hotel offers everything required for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. We stayed two nights and found the room had everything we needed, the bed was comfortable, the room was clean, warm and modern, the hotel is well appointed and only a short walk to the beach if you felt inclined. The owners are lovely hosts and the food is really good. Would definitely recommend and will be back.
