We selected Charles Court based on price, location and onsite facilities.

I will get the negative out of the way first. The unit was FILTHY and well below even minimum standards. Visable Mould, rust, dirt, dust and muck throughout the unit, musty smelling, food splats around the kitchen and bin and all over the dining chairs, oven was dirty, table top was dirty and food was stuck in all the grooves around the outside of the tabletop, TV had no remote, light shade in the bathroom was FULL of dead bugs, finger prints all over the mirror, one of the towels used after a shower reeked of heavens knows what but man it STUNK. The smell transferred onto my body afterwards which required another shower. Lots of noise out in the forecourt area, from what appeared to be an emergency accomodation/long term guests who were smoking out of their unit doors, and continually stared at us or opened curtains to watch what we were doing whenever we emerged from our unit which we found uncomfortable. Playground which has massive potential but needs some serious maintainence. The hot water in the shower was constantly going boiling hot and cold I think this was when the next unit were turning on their taps, really annoying when you just want to relax after a busy day.

Otherwise, the bed was very comfortable, check in staff helpful and accommodating, not too far from town and main attractions etc, units were spacious and warm, lovely laying in bed listening to the roar of the sea nearby, no road noise, awesome pool and bbq area, good easy parking and excellent wifi reception.

The town of Greymouth doesn’t offer much but just 5kms out of town you hit this clean, spacious and well presented hotel. There is a pathway behind the hotel leads down to the beach without having to cross any roads. Checkin was easy and friendly. Big double bedrooms with fully equipped kitchen perfect for the budget conscious. Although the Monteith Brewing company is just down the road for a great drink and meal. Be sure and try the zip line in the back of the hotel. Great stop for the night.

I had booked and PREPAID for a 2-bedroom unit through my agent 1 month prior to my arrival but when I arrived, the owner just gave me a key to 1-bedroom unit without saying anything. When I discovered it was not what I had booked and prepaid, I complained. The owner simply said she gave my room to someone else and this was only what she could offer and if I was not satisfied, I could cancelled and looked for another motel. With severe weather (strong wind and heavy rain) at 8 pm and children, it was not wise to move around, so I took that room. She gave me refund only when I mentioned that this 1-bedroom should be cheaper than 2-bedroom that I prepaid. Had I not asked, I wonder she would honestly give me my refund. However, apart from questioning of owner's intregity, the motel otherwise fairly meets up to standard.

We had booked this motel for my family's stay in Greymouth. We ,family of 4 (2 adults,1 kid and i infant) was travelling shortly (2 weeks) after the flooding in South island. We arrived in Christchurch and was planning to travel to Greymouth (stay at CharlesCourt motel) and travel through westcoast staying at a few different locations as planned in our iternerary. However after floods there were road closures between Greymouth and Fox Glacier which impacted our journey. We called up Charles Court Motel the day before we were due there to see if they were still open and functional as we heard from people inChristchurch that no one really travels there and is not recommended until after the road works finishes (it was basically a bridge collapse). Anyway even after several phone calls no one answered at the motel and we were forced a detour. Our bookings were through flight centre and therefore their emergency helpdesk helped us with a booking in a different location. Now when we later on contacted the motel for a refund they declined saying the route to the place from christchurch was open (eventhough you basically have to come back to christchurch to go anywhere else). And you should remember that the motel itself didn't answer any of our phone calls ,they were not really functioning I believe. So very unprofessional and declining even any refund for a cancellation and even the flight centre personnel were also telling us on those days they were not able to reach these people. So I wouldn't recommend this place, very unprofessional and unreliable I would say.

If you die and go to hell this is where you will wake up. Our room stank of old cigarettes and the decor was very run down. The games room was like the set of an abandoned 1970’s horror film and the freezer looked like an installation art work by David Lynch. This place is a real dump. Avoid at all costs.

Stayed for business and found the rooms to be clean and comfortable, and staff to be very helpful. Would stay again . Located close to the beach, has a pool, and is a good point to stay within reach of tourist attractions

Great motel for families with young children. It is right on the beach and just out of town. Very quiet. Children's playarea, flying fox and pool. Rooms very clean and spacious. Spa bath was wonderful after a day of horrific rain! Would stay here again.

The owners of this motel were fantastic. Our travel agent booked this motel for us not considering that it is out of town and we didn't have a car. The owners drove us to a nearby restaurant for dinner and picked us up. They also dropped us off at the train station the next morning.
It's a great place for the kids. My two loved the play area and the hot tub. It was a bit late in the year to use the swimming pool much to my daughters disappointment. The beach behind the motel is beautiful. The accommodation is well appointed and clean. Thanks for a great stay.

We found the motel in the dark and had a very friendly greeting. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The hot water was off when we arrived but was back on by the time we got back from dinner. The only other small problem we had was a bathroom window which wouldn't close which made showering a very icy experience mid winter.

Over all we have a wonderful time and enjoyed a walk on the beach behind the motel.

Either my expectations were really high, or I'm just not used to "motel" accomodations, but I think the Charles Court was pretty average. Although a little out of the city centre, it is right along the beach and you will get amazing sunset views on a clear night. The room rate is very cheap (under $90) and I think you get what you pay for. The TV channel selection is quite shoddy, and the bed I had was on a such a slant that I was scared I would fall of the bed in the middle of the night. And we had to rely on a little plug-in heating unit to keep 2 large rooms warm. But given that the rate is so cheap, it may just be that I was expecting a little too much. The other thing I didn't enjoy was that the room doors are left open when you arrive, so it takes awhile for the room to warm up after you've entered the room and closed the door, and....there's always the possibility that bugs fly in before your stay but who knows. Why not just keep the doors closed???? The rooms are non-smoking (even though we found an ashtray in our room) so it's not like you should need to air the room out!
