First experience at a “backpackers” and won’t be the last based on Global Village.
I had booked my own room which was large, clean and colourful - even had by own outside deck area.
Kitchen, bathrooms, lounge and other communal areas were equally clean, well-equipped, organised and the global art decor gives the place a really cosy feel which in itself creates a great atmosphere to engage with fellow guests/travellers. Highly recommended.

This place is excellent. It's definitely one of the better backpackers I've stayed at anywhere in the world. It is spotlessly clean and tidy. We had two nights (January 1 & 2) here in the double private room (room 15) and we were impressed. The communal areas are well stocked and clean. The kitchen is well equipped with plenty of utensils, crockery etc. The dining area is good too. There's an excellent lounge and seperate TV area for when the weather is poor (often in Greymouth). There's also a spa, washing lines and helpful, friendly staff. The bathrooms and shower area are kept clean. The whole place is decorated with a distinctly global feel in keeping with the place's name. Most is African - it's all very colorful and pleasant. If you're looking for a budget friendly accommodation option in Greymouth, thisnis a good option.

I was sad to only stay here one day as it was such a lovely place. Spotlessly clean and comfortable and the hosts were really friendly and helpful as well.
It is a little further from the centre of town for walking (about 15mins) but they have bicycles and the facilities more than make up for it. There is a large supermarket about 5 mins walk and great kitchen facilities so that was really easy.
Thanks for a great stay and I hope I can be back one day.

Probably the best place we stayed in while in NZ for 3 weeks over the new year. A warm welcome, a reasonable price, very clean and well equipped. We didn't have time to avail ourselves of free use of bikes or canoes or the hot tub. But we used the laundry facilities - half the price of anywhere else we'd stayed.

I'm not sure what it was that made the place seem so calm - but instinctively everyone seemed to talk in hushed tones! Might not suit everybody but I loved it. I suppose 15 years experience of running the place meant our hosts knew what they were doing.

I'd happily return and would definitely recommend it to everyone. Incidentally, they're part of a back packers association so if you have membership you'd get extra discount.

This is the cleanest backpackers I have ever stayed in. It is super well appointed, really comfortable beds, great lounge, and really nice vibe. Fully recommend this place. Bring ear plugs though if you are a light sleeper as you can hear everything in the room next to you. But this is a small price to pay for such an awesome place.

We booked this place for a one night stay with our children (3 and 6 years) as it was the best recommended available option in Greymouth. It was our daughter‘s 6th Birthday and we informed the Hostel via the booking on their Homepage.

So far we were not aware that children under the age of 13 are not welcomed in this house. Fair enough but as we especially mentioned the very special day and we received a conformation, telling us that cancellations for bookings via their Homepage are only possible via their Homepage, it would have been of help being told that this place is not ment for little ones. Telling a 6 year old girl and her Little Brother, that they are not wanted, are not allowed to be visible and hearable directly was actually not the way we would have expected being informed of of a detail that can ne found in the FAQ.

Such information should be more visible, this way it felt like beeing unwanted but our money is wanted never the less.

The place itself is tidy (the tidies Backpackers we ever stayed at) and clean but full of rules and our 4-bed-Room was located under the corridor where we could hear every step from above.

Friendly host Russell on the phone when we booked a twin room. We phoned first, to make sure they were actually open, now in Covid-19 Level 1. Very friendly and calm atmosphere. What struck us most was the attention to detail. So many little fixes to help "backpacker-proof" this great hostel, obviously Russell has learned a lot about hosting backpackers over 15 years . Clear locations for kitchen utensils, lots of clean teatowels, lots of interesting books and information. The fire and separate lounge were welcoming on a rainy evening. Clean and comfortable twin room, and shared bathrooms also very clean. Hot tub wasn't available, understandably, and we didn't see any of the outside areas. The Global Village theme was a point of difference. Close to the supermarket. Quiet. Room was spacious enough.

Very clean, bright and appealing place to stay for a night or longer! Beautiful art everywhere in bright colors, nice kitchen and seating area! Comfy sleeping arrangements with ladies toilet/showers a door down the hallway. Within walking distance of the stony beach with the most beautiful sunset! The main town area we drove to to walk around - found the most delicious bakery (of course I can’t remember the name but had these yummy iced ginger cookies!!!).
Staff very friendly and parking was great! Would love to go back!

Will always be remembered as the backpackers that convinced my partner backpackers were a viable accomodation option, so thank you. Clean, roomy, comfortable and just very pleasant. It was like a home away from home - the rooms and were warm. The kitchen really well organised. Owners and staff were friendly.
