Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stopped in later in the evening and was met by the wonderful Glen. He gave us laughs, kindness, and a very full tour of the hostel (even letting us choose our room.) It was fantastic. Little touches make a giant impact! Cozy fluffy towels, warm shower with new shower head, new paint, new comforter, quiet uninterrupted sleep, and honestly the inside of our room felt the most like a hotel I’ve ever had in a hostel! Coffee with milk and sugar was fabulous. Kitchen was big and well equipped. Thank you! Only disappointment was no breakfast besides hot drinks and a difference in price from what was listed online- HOWEVER- the experience was well worth it.

Owner was great! Location is Perfect! Bunk beds were very comfortable, no evening noise especially with the central location but you could only hear traffic if your room window was open.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything required to cook a meal, they even had an Air Fryer! Loads of room to sit & enjoy your meal they even lit the wood fire in the evenings for cosy dinners.
The games room is where our son spent most of his time, they have a pool table and table tennis also more seating areas to either read a book, have a meal or enjoy a hot cuppa while looking out into town.
Free parking at the rear 😊

Double room with private bathroom. Clean, safe and a warm welcome from the owner, who gave us recommendations of places to visit on our onward journey. The room was a little cold, due to the heater being on a timer and switching off, but we understand the logic, saving energy etc. Good price and would stay again :)

This is a building in the process of being restored. It's potential is large but a way off yet. The rooms are progressively being updated. We stayed in an updated one and it was great for what we needed. Travellers should know it's still rough around the edges and you will encounter older areas not yet updated such as the toilet and shower area and lounge .. but it was comfortable and the owner man kind and helpful. For the price paid I think it's good. By buying accommodation at the duke you would actually be helping progress the restoration of this old building!

There was a fire going in the lounge room, and the kitchen is huge! Plenty of room and pots/pans etc if you wanted to cook your own food.

Brilliant accommodation. Father and son own and run it. Really friendly and helpful, including taking the time to point out some local attractions and eating spots.
Free pool table and table tennis use. Awesome kitchen. Really tidy and clean. Great value for money. Highly recommended.

Stayed in this room, excellent bed, comfortable as. Friendly hosts and interesting conversation about history of place. Enjoyed hot coal fire in the living room at night and the use of courtesy bike to get around given limitations with walking. Enjoyed my time here and would definitely stay again.

Dukes was a great stay. The location is perfect, plenty of free parking nearby, clean and warm. Loads of character and personality. The owner was friendly and helpful, and gave us lots of tips on things to do and sights to see. Very welcoming - had things like hot water bottles and free breakfast in the morning. Highly recommend :)

1st the staff was amazing, they were helpful beyond the usual. Not only friendly and answering local questions, but making sure the charger cables I left there got back to me with no effort on my part. The room was delightful and comfortable. The building historical, bright and easy to find. Finally it was very economical. Thank you Duke!

Just what I needed for the street race , Clean nice room, Easy check in even though I was a bit early. Got a good park for my bike out of the way. Right in the middle of town and a ten minute walk to anywhere like supermarket shops etc. Keen to stay there again when we go back next year
