We showed up in Greymouth thinking we were staying one place and we were re-routed to another place. The inn keeper thought we were staying at Rosewood the whole time. I'm glad we did not make the mistake of missing out on this stop! The inn keeper had great advice on where to go on the South Island Western Coast. We went to see the Pancake rocks; a great park. We also went south to buy jade. Back to the B&B, the rooms were clean, neat, very functional and comfortable. There was a breakfast that had something for everyone. There were local NZ items like vegemite and typical international items like eggs. The outside can look intimidating, but don't be afraid, the inside is very pleasant. Also, this is a budget stop, so you will be glad that you saved some $$ for the flight home.

We stayed with Stefan for 1 night and everything was catered for. Room was lovely - bathroom huge and breakfast the next morning was very tasty - we did learn that Stefan was or is a chef!!!
I didn't find the room cold but then I do like cool rooms - as previous reviewer said we had our dinner in Buccleugh's - recommended by Stefan - and it was lovely

This was the only B&B we stayed in for this trip. It was on a busy highway, but it did quiet at night. The hostess was nice and served a good breakfast. Our room had its own bathroom and TV. The home had a lot of charm. We had a chance to meet the other guests. There was off street parking in back.

The rosewood facility itself is quite nice---front room can be noisy from the road.
Very little hospitality/interaction from hosts----no help on local points of interest.
Breakfast biggest disappointment----definitely not as advertised. Eggs undercooked.
Stale muffins two days in a row. Cheese one morning, not the next.
Hosts were quite aloof----no farewell or appreciation from hosts.
Spent two weeks in New Zealand--Rosewood only disappointment.
Wi-Fi is iffy, at best.

The manager, Gail, greeted us on our late-ish arrival and booked us a table at the restaurant along the road, which was very good. This B&B is on a busy road, and we were in a front room but it was OK at night.
"The Pilot" (a helicopter pilot from Franz Josef) told some tales(!!) and also cooked a pretty good breakfast, which is served in the breakfast room/lounge with the other guests.
Our room had an en suite and TV, and the whole place was done in a period fashion. There was on street parking out front for a few cars, and off street parking at the back.
Overall it was a pleasant couple of nights, although I'm not sure the style of the place would appeal to younger travellers.

We stayed 1 night before catching the Trans Alpine. We were greeted by the manager who told us she had been in the building for a couple of weeks, would be there until the end of season, and that the owners had separated and had both left town. The B&B is in an older style building, clean, but in need of a bit of modernisation and repair, with green carpets throughout. Some of the windows were wired shut in our room and it had an old fashioned bathroom but with a decent pressure shower. We spent a omfortable night. Breakfast of fruit, yoghurt, toast was fine. Cereals were also available but no hot food.

There isn’t a lot to Greymouth and with hindsight it probably wasn’t worth spending a night there as the train is an afternoon service and we could have driven straight to it.

This was our only experience of staying in a b and b in New Zealand. The room was comfortable - if a little cold - and the bathroom was huge! The owners had put a lot of thought into making guests feel welcome: water in the room, together with fudge, leaflets in the lounge, tea and coffee available, toiletries, hairdryer etc.
The full breakfast was good and Stefan was welcoming and helpful. The garden is very pretty.
There was a good restaurant (Buccleugh' s) within walking distance.

Exterior of this b&b as with the inside looked very tired. The period features were very nice, but the bedroom and ensuite needs refurbishing. The owner had only been there for a few months but was very helpful. There is room for improvements in the future.

Only stayed one night and had a room on the first floor. At check in we were greeted by young girl who said as little as she needed to. Seemed a little unfriendly. The bedroom was a nice size with a large double bed and the room faced the main road, the window blinds being a touch thin letting in quite a bit of light. The Bathroom was over a corridor but nice and large and for our use only. Large flat screen TV. Two short flights of stairs to get your bags up. Breakfast was between 7 and 9. No wonder the girl seemed unhappy when she asked me what time we would like it. My answer being 9 am as I was unaware of the timings. She could have said something Instead of giving us the silent treatment. There are no seats in the bedroom and can't see the TV from the bed. One suitcase stand and a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The breakfast was actually very nice but again the choices were not described to us very well and could be improved upon by a simple menu on the table. Tea and coffee was available downstairs with biscuits. Car parking was on the road at the front but easy to find a space.

Accomodation in much loved family home, surrounded by lovingly tended gardens, close to everything in Greymouth. Hosts welcoming and perfectly cooked breakfast was provided. Extremely helpful in planning our trip.
