Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed for 2 nights while away for work. I stayed in the hotel part rather than in a motel unit so can’t comment on those units. My room was clean and reasonably comfortable but I have a few gripes which distinguishes it from other accommodation providers of similar level in which I have stayed in the region. There is no air conditioning so the room can get very warm and though one window could open a bit it wasn’t sufficient to cool when the weather was warm. There was a fan that I found in a cupboard, but it is a poor alternative. The TV was a reasonable size but the channels were limited and not good picture quality so I ended up watching something on my iPad. The wi fi is free but is variable in speed, so many times my internet activity was interrupted and stopped altogether. When you’re away working, that is very frustrating. My room was on a corridor where you could hear any sounds people made along it, including talking, sometimes loudly at night, and the doors are self closing so always slam. I was woken at 4.45am by a slammed door, not very conducive to a quiet restful stay. The bathroom was clean but very dated and pretty small. There was a worn looking bath with shower over. The toiletries provided were plentiful and smelled nice. I didn’t eat at the hotel at all, but my colleague said the meal she ordered from room service (steak with truffle mash) was top notch and cooked perfectly to her liking as requested.

Dear jackih192, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and we appreciate your positive comments relating to our room cleanliness, toiletries and your colleagues room service meal. Please note all of our rooms do not come with air-conditioning. We will be working with our Wi-Fi supplier to eliminate such issues you found, we apologize for the inconvenience caused. We do regret the noise made by neighboring guests and would like to recommend our motel units for your next stay. Once again thank you for your feedback and we wish you all the best on your onward travels.

Not a highlight
Hardly any service, no elevator, so you have to lug your suitcases up the stairs. Rooms have the feel of a youth hostel and are very noisy. The hotel is actually a motel and is located a little outside of Greymouth, a town you should avoid anyway. The staff are friendly but were hopelessly overwhelmed by two groups at breakfast, seemed hectic and completely disoriented. The WIFI is so-so. But the dinner was very tasty.

This is an older property but is clean and comfortable. Working away often sleep badly but the bed was comfortable and gave me a solid nights sleep. The bathroom is really where the rooms show their age, but are functional and clean. We ate at the restaurant and the food was ok but not great, the burger was quite bland and crème brûlée had a soft chewy top which was different, the fish and chips were good though.

We booked our room at short notice; the receptionist told us that no rooms were available but on booking.com there were! After some lengthy “discussions “, he agreed that there was a room free - which we took.
This is a hotel totally oriented to large groups; I don’t recommend it for individual travelers. Clean rooms, but no charm, very limited service; triggers a feeling like in a train station. We were happy to leave the next morning.

The room was very fresh, clean and comfortable, the staff efficient and very friendly. My room wasn't ready when l arrived after 2:00pm so they gave me a complimentary drink while l waited less than half an hour! I had dinner in the restaurant, my meal hot and extremely well cooked. A great place to stay!

Hotel is located out of the city of Greymouth so quiet and nice setting but you need a vehicle to get around especially if it is raining. Their on-site restaurant is closed on Saturday and Sunday so the closest option is up the block. Otherwise you need a cab or car ride.Rooms are spacious and well appointed but no elevator for second floor. Staff was very friendly and helpful!!!!!

We found the motel unit clean and comfortable with everything we needed for our family. We enjoyed the spa, which was a short distance away. However, the unheated pool proved a bit too cold for us. We left our windows slightly open while sleeping and enjoyed being lulled to sleep by the sound of the ocean. The on-site restaurant is a bonus, which we probably would have used if travelling without children, as this had been highly recommended. We found this a great location and an excellent choice for a family stay. The staff we interacted with were all very pleasant.

I found it odd (as an American) that a business hotel like this has no air conditioning in the guest rooms. When we checked in, room was very warm and while no a/c they offered a fan. Kind of 1960’s.

Breakfast ladies were the best part of the hotel, they were friendly and welcoming. Front desk young gals kind of officious and off-putting. Housekeeper’s were great, too.

Kind of an out of the way location but overall OK, if somewhat dated property. Front appearance really bland. Bathroom tub needs some work.

The room was a bit dark as it looked out to an nearby building. However the bathroom lighting was excellent but the bathroom needs some upgrading to match the nicely decorated bedroom. All the staff were very attentive and seemed committed to their jobs. Plenty of free parking on the street opposite the hotel.

This is an oldish property which has had extensive renovations to bring it up to a modern standard and overall they have made a pretty decent job.
Rooms are nice and beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are modern.
No air conditioning is present so in summer rooms get quite warm but the fan supplied keeps the temperature to an okay level.
There is plenty of free parking behind the hotel and kerbside in front and the place has a nice restaurant but it was not open when we were there due to the Covid downturn I assume.
By no means a great hotel but more than acceptable none the less.
