Would love to return and spend more time here
+ In the middle of nowhere
+ awesome views all around
+ sparkling clean room, facilities, property
+ Shared toilets and bathrooms are right across the kiwi cabin so fine to walk to them late at night too
+ Each bathroom had a shower cubicle and a small dressing area that you can lock providing perfect privacy in the shared setting
+ nice walks around the property.. loved the walk to the waterfall that the host recommended.
+ Glow worms walk at night.. there were so many of them and just us to see them.
. no restaurant around so make sure you carry some grocery to cook your own food or buy some frozen pizza from the small store onsite and heat it up in the pizza oven they have in the shared kitchen.
- They close the facilities for cleaning at sharp 10am. So, plan accordingly.
- Kitchen was very clean but the utensils could have been cleaner (especially pots and pans). People using those are expected to wash those after use but the staff should probably check those and wash those thoroughly every few days.

Second time we have stayed here in a camper van. The park is beautifully laid out, with nice firm gravelled sites that are level and give you a good amount of space. Lovely natural surroundings with lots of native bush and bird life around. The facilities are fantastic, especially the bathrooms. A really good place to stay before heading off further into the West Coast.

What a pleasure it was to come here! Friendly service, and a beautifully clean and well maintained property.
Dog friendly; which is wonderful.
Lots of little walks into the Bush where in the evenings you could see glow worms. They even provided red cellophane so the torch light didn't scare them! One beautiful small waterfall, and a larger one on DOC land (about 30min walk).
Will stay there again!
Kitchen and ablutions block were well stocked and clean.
You can even put your tent up under cover!!

Jacksons Retreat is a great setting however it was tempered by an abundance of security cameras and finger waging signs including many threats about a $10 per hour charge if you stay after 10am.! Let's be honest if you are parked on a site then when you drive off nothing else has to be done for the next campers. Understandable with the cabins but not the campsites. Also if you pay for 2 nights accommodation you only get free WiFi for the first night, after that you have to pay. Not sure of the logic there? Jacksons has great features but just needs a little more flexibility.

It’s a shame we only stayed one night. The site was well structured nestled in the mountain valley. A perfect place to rest after Arthur’s Pass
The main dining area was well provisioned with a welcoming log fire and comfy chairs to relax into the chilly night with a nice cup of hot chocolate.
We explored the glow worms and the nearby waterfall.
I would definitely make this a stopping point for any journey in the area.
It is a little expensive, but given the remote location I can understand why

What a beautiful location, far enough off the road so no road noise. And the bird song!
Beautiful landscaping. Facilities have everything you need. A surprise was the camp store, we bought honey which was very well priced and eggs which were huge. Thank you Chris for your warm welcome and helpfulness, we will come again for sure.

We were unable to stay as arrived without food. There was no pantry nor the foods stated in the information and the Tavern 800metres away closed in 2016. We lost $155.00 as we booked thru booking.com.
We travelled onto Arthur’s Pass in our Motor Home, a further 40 minutes drive and to avoid back tracking as we were travelling from Greymouth to Christchurch, we found accommodation and food.
The owner was apologetic. Retreat info needs updating. We are unable to have our review accepted on booking.com

Family of 5, including baby stayed at this site for two nights. Loved it! We camped close to the ammenities building which was impeccable and clean. Playground on site for the kids. Best part were the two walks we went on, one is to the waterfall approx an hour (with kids) and was a great view, the other was up the hill to the quartz mine which was approx 3 hours with the kids. We went to search for the glow worms but unfortunately none to be seen by us at night. Would happily stay here again! FYI, Weka a plenty here

We visited in a campervan, so I am not sure about the rooms. Perhaps you could ask the proprietors directly through the "contact us" section of their website. Good luck!
Sorry for the very late reply, I must have missed this somehow. Currently we have 2 Double Beds, 1 single bed and 4 bunk beds. There are currently 3 rooms upstairs and 1 room contains a double bed and the second room contains a double bed and a single bed and the 3rd room contains 4 bunk beds. A child/young adult could sleep on the couch downstairs if needing additional sleeping (the current downstairs couch is approx 5ft)
Good morning, yes we are pooch friendly with normal responsible pooch ownership camp rules. When booking through our website please note that you will be bringing your dog, regards Toni
For this enquiry I suggest you call as there are other factors regarding long term storage that need to be considered before a annual rate is provided, please note that we are also able to offer undercover storage, thanks Toni
Hello, Lake Brunner is the locals best kept secret for Trout fishing, local fishing guide is Brent Beadle based in Moana, there are no Salmon fishing guides in the area but the Taramakau River is Salmon grounds.
