The room was comfortable with all we needed for one night in Greymouth. Well located within easy walking distance to the centre and the railway station. Lovely breakfast freshly cooked. Would definitely recommend!

We stayed here for 3 nights and found it very comfortable and clean - lovely beds and heat pumps in each room. It was also very conveniently situated close to nice cafes and the waterfront walk. Although it's on the main road it was elevated and we heard no traffic at all. Some local maps could have been handy. but they'd run out.

What was really confusing is it's called a Bed & Breakfast place but you have to pay extra for breakfast. Check the small print when booking.

If you need a good value B&B close to the town center and minutes from the station - this is it. We were made very welcome and the whole B&B was clean and tidy.
The breakfast was also very good.
Although the B&B is on a main road we heard no traffic at night and had a good nights sleep.
Recommended.

Our stay didn’t start off well because as soon as we checked in, we gave our names & the owner replied that she had us down as another name. Still, she showed us to our room which was large & had an en-suite. The bathroom wasn’t clean, there were several hairs in the sink, shower tray & on the floor which was unpleasant to say the least. We chose to go straight out for the rest of the day. Had a lovely afternoon exploring around Punakaiki, had something to eat & returned just before 9:30pm to find the owner waiting for us. She said she’d been worried because we weren’t back (9:30?!) & that we were in the wrong room. She then told us that she’d been into our room & she produced OUR copy of the paperwork to prove we weren’t in the correct room. I was speechless to say the least. Of course, breakfast the next morning was an awkward affair. The owner is not very approachable in her manner & I was happy to be leaving, glad we’d only booked one night. The only positive thing I can think of is that the bed was comfy.

We arrived 2 a greeting of "have you got a booking"? Only one room has an en-suite and we were made too believe (not fault of the owners) that the 2 rooms we booked had en-suites.
Place in very dated. Room need better lighting and no where in room to lug a hairdryers in near a mirror. Rained that night and constant drip from spouting outside. Another quest had shower in evening and in the morning that guests face cloth along with soap still in shower! bathmat not changed either! And to top it all off Water on the lounge was in Plastic Milk containers and they had a date on them of 2002!
Actually that was the theme thru out plastic flowers. Plastic water Containers, Plastic toilet holders.
I'm sure there is somewhere a lot nicer in Greymouth to stay :)

b&b

We are a well travelled couple and have stayed in many b&bs, as we believe they are home from home with most of them great experiences and have only walked out of 1, this would have been the second.

On arrival, without a greeting, we were demanded to pay up front for our 3 night stay. When we said that the Booking agent advised payment was on departure, the host, who never introduced herself, became extremely rude and aggressively told us that that was " her" policy. When we asked to see the room first, she pushed passes us and kept saying if we wanted to leave we could take it up with the booking agent. We were let into the room which was a quick view and escorted back to make payment, where she snatched the credit card to run through the machine. Unfortunately we had booked this in advance and our credit card details were supplied, so we had not option but to stay or loose $450. This was not a good start to our first trip to NZ.

The guest lounge/sitting room was not comfortable or inviting. It was a small dark room with no windows or natural light.
The furniture was old and worn out. The table with the tea/ coffee etc was dirty, as were the cups and cutlery. The kettle and toaster were in the corner of room on top of a ?magazine rack, with no fresh water available. (Water was supplied in old plastic bottles, which I watched the host "topped up", not empty and refill).

The bedroom was at the rear of the house, the only one with an ensuite. It was quiet, and the ensuite was ample and clean, with soap and fresh towels. The free wifi was unreliable in the room itself.
The Room was large, but the furniture and bed were old and mismatched. The bedding was very worn and the mattress was extremely soft, with cheap worn out pillows. There was no wardrobe, just a rickety shop cloths rack with plastic hangers. No tea/coffee or drinking water in the room, only "nearly clean" glasses supplied.
The tv sat awkwardly on what appeared to be half a dirty old tv unit, with very dirty remotes.

The breakfast room was part of the kitchen, and not pleasant to eat in, with a disabled shower chair along side the dining table. The full view of grotty kitchen and the host microwaving our "cooked" breakfast and having to ask for clean cutlery, was too much on the last morning, as mushy microwaved tomatoes, dry bacon and partially cooked "scrambled" eggs and mixup cordial as "fruit juice" sealed the need to review this b&b.

The overall presentation of this b&b was untidy, with a musty smell and an unpleasant atmosphere.
This b&b is over priced @ $150p/n and under delivers. It is in dire need of a Total update and I would not recommend this to anyone.

I would question if host would pay $150 for the same service elsewhere.
We are not really sure why this B&B is rated so highly, we found it to be fairly ordinary at best, and certainly no where near the 8 rating on Booking.com

We enjoyed spending time chatting with our host, Gladys, over breakfast. She reminded us of our own grandma. We stayed one night at this clean & affordable character home.
We grabbed a room with a shared bathroom, however there are rooms with an ensuite available. Breakfast was simple but hearty and tasty. Continental + a cooked plate.
The place is situated on a hill that over looks part of the town, seawall and State Highway bridge. It is easy to imagine the coal and steam trains that would have been seen from the same spot decades ago. Easy to get to and find with a short walk only required to get into the cbd for dinner. Would stay again for sure. Gladys reccommended an eatery to us, we didnt listen and went elsewhere, resulting in a horrible meal, our mistake.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Golden Coast for three days.
Everything was spotlessly clean, well maintained, comfortable beds and lovely linen. Nice rooms and bathrooms.
Our host was very good to make sure that we had everything we needed and was available to us at anytime.
There is a separate sitting room for guests where we could help ourselves to hot drinks and a good place to go if you didn't want to be in your room.
Location great as well.

Just outskirts of the city this family-run BnB is a true delight. Soak in the splendid views of the Greymouth mountains whilst you relax in the garden. Lots of birds and wildlife would definitely recommend one of my favourite places in Greymouth

We had a room near the back of the complex. Our bedroom was big, bathroom was okay for one at a time.

It was a steep walk up to our room so be aware of that if you have some mobility issues.

There is car parking at the bottom of the drive just off the street, a bit of a squeeze though.

It could have been cleaner but it was still liveable.
