Great accommodation…not so sure about the “Indulgence Package”… We are a well travelled, middle-aged, professional couple and had a delightful stay at Ara Roa Villas (Te Kahu house). The house was as described, beautifully appointed, comfortable, with stunning views. It was warm inside when the weather outside was quite cool. The bedroom was well appointed and comfortable, and the connected walk-in wardrobe and en-suite were spacious and airy with views from many angles. There were two further bedrooms and another bathroom, if more than one couple were staying. The living area had a lovely sense of open plan expansiveness extending to the landscape beyond. There was a well equipped kitchen, a deck with BBQ and a general sense of having a gorgeous home in beautiful surrounds all to oneself. Communication with the hosts was very prompt and responsive. We opted for the Winter Indulgence package, which was supposed to include French champagne and a cheese platter on arrival, followed by two days of catered breakfast and dinner, and a 1.5 hour massage (we had to pay extra for the second massage). The Balinese massages, delivered side by side in the lounge area as the afternoon sun began to set, were excellent. The chef (Brad) then cooked us a delicious three-course meal, which included full service (though we had to provide our own wine), all of which made us feel very pampered. He left us another delicious two-course meal for the next night, as well as packages to make up two substantial breakfasts (fruit/yoghurt/muesli mix plus savoury quiches). He also left us some extra muffins and slices that he had whipped up that day. In contrast to our otherwise very positive experience, our only real disappointment was the cheese platter with champagne provided by the hosts. We had informed the hosts that we did not drink red wine and that a white wine or a champagne would be fine with the cheese platter. The wine provided was a $20 bottle of Chardonnay, hardly the equivalent of a French champagne, and the cheese platter consisted of 3 supermarket cheeses and two tubs of supermarket dip, one expired, plus some chips and crackers. There was also a packet of smoked salmon and some chocolates. In summary, the “indulgence package” component, which cost us $1470 on top of our accommodation cost of $595 per night, was not great value. On the positive side, it meant that we did not need to leave the house for dinner, and it was great to be pampered by the masseuses and personal chef. However, the quality of the welcoming cheese platter and accompanying alcohol should have been far superior. If one generously factors about $170 for the cheese platter/champagne, and $300 for the two massages, one is paying about $1100 extra for two dinners and breakfasts, which are certainly pleasant and convenient, but not mind-blowing. In that sense, at $550 just for each breakfast+dinner (without any alcohol) for two, it is definitely an “indulgence” package!

Dear Rob and David Thanks for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback for us. I’m pleased you overall had such an enjoyable time and that the house, catering, and massages lived up to your expectations. Apologies for the letdown on the cheese platter and Alcohol. As explained via email we were both away so didn't want to create a platter for you the day before. For anyone else reading your feedback, I have to break down the costs you refer to as I think you’ve made an error in calculating the cost. Here are the detailed workings of what we charge for the “Winter Getaway” package (we don’t use the word indulgence): Chef in-house dinner $550 Preprepared dinner $250 Breakfast, muffins, and slices are $50 per person per day so in total $200 The total for the private chef catering was $1000 2 x 90 minutes in house couples massage is $ 300 Cheeses, snacks and alcohol have a budget of $150 which in today's world gets you very little. (Your shop was $135) I do apologise for the out of date item and will make sure this won't happen again. The total you paid for the package was $ 1,450 and not $1,570 as per your calculations. 🙂 We run a small business here and are not ‘a lodge’ as such. We have to contract anyone else in to provide services to us. In general, they have a 30-40 minute trip to get to us. Thanks again for staying and apologies where we fell short. Hope to host you another time. All the best, Susanne and Paul

We stayed at the beautiful Hauora in August for a week. Wow what a stunning property, well equipped uncluttered sophistication and luxury. The beds were super comfy, and the views from our bed are inexlpicable! Turn the lights out at night and the panoramic windows give you the feeling of sleeping under the stars. Each room has its own ensuite and the hot tub with its beatiful views is a welcome bonus! The location and views are to die for. We enjoyed our walks on the beach which is just a short 5 min walk down the driveway. Breakfast on the deck around the firepit looking out to the ocean is such a wonderful experience. And the hosts could not be more accommodating. We will be back!

A truly stunning coastal property buried deep in the bush, less than three hours away from Auckland. Everything from the drive-in along the coast, to your arrival at the hillside house adds to the experience. Beautiful bedrooms with super comfy beds, and jaw-dropping views. A yoga/meditation room to boot, as well as an outdoor spa to warm up after the beach, which is a five-minute walk. The deck, overlooking this scarcely populated bay and beach is expansive. Perfect for sunbathing, enjoying an afternoon snooze or book, or an evening cocktail. A real treasure. Thank you.

Be weary of booking with this company - they do not stand up for their guests even though they know what the owners are trying to keep the refundable deposit. The team was very attentive, but as soon as the owner wanted to keep our bond because of things that were not outlined in our agreement or on any booking material, they evaporated. Obviously they put the blame on the owner and don't try to work with guests. Really sad as the house was mostly beautiful. We had an issue with the water pump, outdoor shower, dryer and the beds are not the size they mentioned. I would recommend staying but just don't give them a bond. They can't help you and fly away at the soonest sign of an owner getting upset.

The name Te Huia is a fitting name for this house as Te Huia was a sacred bird to the Māori and was beautiful as is this house. The view from the deck overlooking the Pacific is nothing short of spectacular. The house itself was very well equipped and the surround sound speakers that could link to our phones for music was a treat. The house is close to numerous tramping tracks and for beach days the house is a short drive to sandy relatively deserted beaches with super surfing options for those so inclined. You will not be disappointed staying here.

The GlassHouse is truly spectacular. The actual building is a work of art and the furnishings are truly superb. The bed is beautiful and comfortable as is the couch in the lounge. The kitchen is extremely well stocked, and there are so many little extras, sunblock, eyeshades, bottled water in the fridge, not to mention the fabulous platter and bubble on arrival. The sound system was great and the views beautiful, the bathroom was amazing....don't think I will ever have a view from my shower like that again. The outdoor area with loungers and a perfectly laid fireplace was perfect. So private and the walking track was a great little adventure.

We spent 3 nights at the Cliff House . 6 ladies on a weekend get away . We had everything we needed , no need to leave - the peace and quiet, the views and the homes comforts was all we needed . The house was big enough for 6 , 3 bathrooms, multiple living areas, and plenty of outdoor space

We spent a long weekend (3 nights) at Te Huia and absolutely loved it. It seemed like every detail of our stay was perfect, with everything well catered for. We enjoyed the walks around the property and the information on all the other walks in the wider area. Took advantage of the food recommendations (fish and chips, cheese) and it was spot on. Really enjoyed our stay, and would like to come back and try some of the other properties.

Our family of three stayed in Te Huia for a couple of nights for a long weekend. The house is located in a quiet, private location with stunning views to the sea and over rolling greenhills. We enjoyed the walking track around the property in the bush, thank you for another amazing stay.
