My family of 4 stayed at the Cliffhouse over New Years Eve. The location is truly breathtaking and the house and living area is designed to take advantage of the amazing coastline view. The house is really well appointed and maintained and could easily accommodate a much larger family, we took advantage of the space and layout to enjoy lots of downtime and relaxation. We also loved walking around the property on the tracks.
Close enough to some small towns for provisions, good coffee and meals (The house compendium was great in providing recommendations)
The Cliffhouse offers a dinner catering service - the dinner was restaurant quality and very generous in portion size. We had enough for leftovers the following day. Was fabulous to eat in and not have to cook!
The other homes on the property look amazing too.

Before we arrived at Te Kahu we knew two things: Paul and Susanne (the owners) were very accommodating and the pictures sure looked nice. Well, Paul and Susanne are very nice and accommodating but the pictures don't do justice to the scenery and understated luxury of the home. We all stood mouth agape when we entered the front door. All the rooms are beautifully appointed, lovely bathrooms have eco-friendly supplies that smell divine, and the floor-to-ceiling accordion windows let the breezes flow through the house and seamlessly blend indoors and outdoors. We loved our stay and all wished we had had more time to spend at Te Kahu.

Thank you for your kind words. It is a lovely house, with a very relaxing vibe. And you are right, it is very difficult to capture in pictures what it is really like. Thank you for staying and we hope to see you again some day. Kind regards, Paul and Susanne

Fabulous place to stay for a long weekend with a group of friends. Great location, amazing views and the house was very well set up. Great to see the toiletries provided in large bottles and not the individually wrapped plastic overload wastage. Very comfy beds. Loved this place, will return.

As a place to stay, Ara Roa satisfies the most sophisticated of palates. First of all the location — a high hilltop surrounded that offers a limitless view of the land and the ocean. The building is elegant and extremely comfortable. This is an exceptionally beautiful property… and it’s all yours. You feel that the world has receded and you are virtually alone. A truly complete modern kitchen makes anything you desire to prepare possible. And if you don’t want to cook, the local supermarket in Parua Bay, a 15-minute drive, has pretty much anything you might want, from fresh to frozen to packaged. There’s a liquor store beside it, and two wonderful coffee shops. One of these will surprise you with its delicious breakfast and lunch offerings (New Day Café), the other with its coffee and pastries (Smith and Local).

My Husband and I stayed in the Glasshouse for three nights. It is one of the most stunning places we've ever stayed in. The views are magnificent. To have complete privacy in this peaceful place is priceless. The catered food was divine deliciousness and the service from the hosts was 10 out of 10. We live nearby in Whangarei Heads and to have this paradise in our backyard is absolutely amazing. We highly recommend this stunning place. Thank you for sharing!

The GlassHouse is truly spectacular. The actual building is a work of art and the furnishings are truly superb.
The bed is beautiful and comfortable as is the couch in the lounge. The kitchen is extremely well stocked, and there are so many little extras, sunblock, eyeshades, bottled water in the fridge, not to mention the fabulous platter and bubble on arrival.
The sound system was great and the views beautiful, the bathroom was amazing....don't think I will ever have a view from my shower like that again.
The outdoor area with loungers and a perfectly laid fireplace was perfect.
So private and the walking track was a great little adventure.

We cannot recommend The Glasshouse highly enough. It is set in a stunning location no matter the weather. It is deceptively simple in design but oozes pure luxury in every detail. Paul and Suzanne are welcoming hosts and Brad the Chef prepares the most delicious meal seemingly out of thin air. This place is an absolute gem.

Be weary of booking with this company - they do not stand up for their guests even though they know what the owners are trying to keep the refundable deposit.
The team was very attentive, but as soon as the owner wanted to keep our bond because of things that were not outlined in our agreement or on any booking material, they evaporated. Obviously they put the blame on the owner and don't try to work with guests. Really sad as the house was mostly beautiful. We had an issue with the water pump, outdoor shower, dryer and the beds are not the size they mentioned.
I would recommend staying but just don't give them a bond. They can't help you and fly away at the soonest sign of an owner getting upset.

An extraordinary getaway. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a great barbecue, a small dishwasher, fridge, dishes, etc. We got groceries in Whangarei and cooked all our meals at the Glasshouse, which meant we could really sink in and enjoy the remote location. Great patio with fireplace and heated outdoor dining area that’s covered, so you can be outdoors no matter the weather. Incredible sleeping with the large windows open and the sound of waves crashing into the cliffs all night. Highly recommend.

A slice of Heaven was carved out in this corner of the world. Ara Roa boasts a tranquility that any weary traveller would long for. It was by far one of the most peaceful holidays we ever had. Our only wish was that it could have been longer. Three days went by fast, and we really didn't want to leave. All dreams must come to an end. The views are magnificient, the Te Huia accomodation was perfect, private, super clean, with charming hosts. - They thought of everything to ensure a supreme experience, with a lot of details about hiking trails and other features about the surrounding area. The recommended places to dine are all fantastic places. We tried to book our reservation at Top Sail but it booked up fast - it would pay to reserve your table well in advance. Overall, Ara Roa exceeded our expectations. Can't wait to return!
