Spacious and not too far to walk to the quay. The included breakfast was a very good value for money. Plenty of choices and good size serving. While initially it felt like Faulty Towers, the staff warm up and were friendly. They helped us with planning our route for our holiday. The bathroom and toilet could do with a little bit of upgrade. The place is looking a bit tired and could do with a little bit of touch up. Also, being in the main road, it's pretty noisy from the traffic. The weather was quite warm so we're unable to close the window which made sleeping difficult.
Unfortunately, we were overcharged close to $300 for one night, and we are having great difficulty getting our money back. The owner, when contacted, was quite rude, telling me he didn't want to know about the overcharge, to go through the booking agency for it, then telling me I was a 'good girl' (I'm 50!) when I said I would do that. Very condescending, sexist and unhelpful I felt. And over three weeks later - we're still waiting for our money!
An excellent place to stay for a night. Spacious living and bathroom areas. Very well appointed with a large screen TV. Very friendly and helpful proprietors and a very good, generous continental breakfast available. Close to good restaurants and the main roads.
We stayed at the Pembrooke Motor Lodge in Whangarei with another couple. Bob and Carol, the kiwi owners, were both very friendly in the initial phone contacts we had with them. They very kindly allowed us to have use of a unit before check in time. The units were very clean and all the staff were friendly and obliging. The beds were very comfortable and warm, the hot water was hot and the shower was strong with an adjustable shower head. A very comfortable and pleasant stay. We'll be back next time we're in Whangarei.
Stayed in room 12 which was a disabled room.... that was confusing, anyway the 2 carparks in front of the room were disabled carparks. We parked in one of them because it was in front of our room... some other car was already park in the other disabled carpark in front of our room and was parked there the entire time of our stay... did not have a disabled sticker.. however the owner came to our room and asked us to move our car as other guests complained about our car being parked in a disabled carpark in front of our disabled room, so we moved it. Not long after another vehicle parked in that same disabled carpark in front of our room with no disabled sticker on their vehicle which made me thing was it the "guest" complaining or the owners didn't want us parked on that carpark. We also queried our breakfast that we pre-booked with our accommodation on line and then turned up and paid in full however the owner was unsure and had to look it up 2 or 3 times before confirming that we had paid for breakfast. The lodge also has no guest book or phones in the rooms, We experienced a lot of noise above our room which was okay because it wasn't too late and we are normal people until we went to sleep at 10pm and then started hearing more stomping from upstairs after 11.30pm where we had to get up and go and address the situation but it didn't stop so we called reception and noone answered our calls. Which makes me wonder if there was an emergency situation, is there anyone working on site to ensure the safety of guests.…
