The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. There is a dedicated path for walking/running/cycling right outside the motel and it is a really pleasant. There is two entrances/exits to the motel, if you are coming from the north of the motel I would suggest driving past the motel as a few hundred meters after the motel there is a dedicated right turn lane (as the motel is on a dual lane road and depending on the time you arrive it can be busy and it isn’t safe to turn right into the motel) into the park and the entrance is large enough that it is easy to turn at the entrance. The rooms are a bit dated and they could do with a bit of a refresh in places and also there is a big step into the shower
Simple rooms but well kept and tidy. Lovely staff, and very helpful. Location is very close to everything, but is on a road that was a little noisy at peak times. Overall lovely stay and I would stay again.
Stayed here two nights. Lots of traffic noise first thing in the morning. Our room lacked a blind for the door. So lots of light in the room at night, making sleeping tough. Otherwise room was ok. Friendly owner/manager when checked in and reporting a smoke alarm with faulty battery.
Had a really nice stay here. The rooms are kept very clean and the shower had great pressure. Super friendly staff who were happy to let me check in early. Easy access to Town Basin and CBD. A great value when travelling through Whangarei. Loved being so near the water and sailboats!
This is a simple place but we liked it very much. Friendly staff, nice beds, kitchen had all things we needed. Quiet and close to river. The shower was very powerful. We wanted to leave bit later it was no problem. Parking was good too.
I would warn people not to stay here. My boyfriend and I booked for a room online at around 4.30~5pm on Saturday 25th August. We got there and the lady gave us a key to our room. We put our stuff there, only got rest for just a bit then we went out for dinner for around 3 hours. When we got back, we saw another couple in our room!!! Their stuff were everywhere in the room. The beds were all messed up and they already used the shower. We called the lady at the reception and explained the situation. She went up to our room and asked the other couple to leave because she gave them the wrong key room. She apologised and left us there still feeling confused. Then we went back to the reception and asked them to do something because I refused to stay in the room that other people had used. The receptionist (the lady with short hair and wearing glass), who was the only staff there , said that there was nothing they could do about it. The way she handled the situation was absolutely horrible. They should have given us the new room instead of giving that new room to the couple that were in our room. They used lost of things in that room already while we only put ONE bag in that room then left for dinner. We asked the lady to gave us the full refund if there was no room available to change. She refused and kept saying that there was nothing she could do. She started blaming that she just lost her brother and she only got back to work that day, and how she did not want to deal with this stuff. Excuse me but I did not yell at you and it was a business. I'm sorry for your lost but if you got back to work means that you needed to DO YOUR JOB. It was her fault to give out the wrong key and then she blamed us for being hard on her? My brother is a hotel manager (in another country so it's not like I tried to bring their business down) and I had stayed in lots of different hotels and motels. I know how these stuff work. Letting other people into our room while we left our stuff there is a very bad mistake. If that happens, they not only have to give back the full refund but also give discount for the next stay or something else . We simply asked for a new room and because there were no room available, they should have give us the refund. I asked to talk to her boss but the lady said it was weekend so her boss wasn't there. We could only write a note about how we were unhappy then she would pass it to her boss on Monday. It has been 3 working days and I neither receive my refund nor a phone call to apologise for the situation from her boss. I have never seen such a horrible customer service like this. This is not how a business should run. We left there that night to stay in another nice hotel and would never return or recommend anyone to go there. Oh, the wifi wasn't working either. On arrival checked facilities, went to put cold items in the fridge & the fridge hadn't been cleaned from previous occupants, the freezer had meat blood in it. The utensil draw was filthy with food crumbs & had to wash all utensils & the tray before use. The bin in the toilet was dirty & hadn't been cleaned around the outside. There was things left behind on top of the shower cubicle, the breadboard had food stuck to it & there was either an egg or tomato sauce drop on the table when we arrived & when i complained we were told someone would come in & clean the unit properly but it was still there when we left. The photos online don't match the room & we were wanting to leave immediately but it was too awkward on short notice not knowing the area & for the price i paid i expected it to be clean. Not impressed & will definitely not be coming back. Was very disappointed & would have liked a refund for at least one of the 2 nights.…
Although we were booked in for two nights - we checked out after one. This motel is extremely sub-standard. Although the property claims to offer free Wi-Fi, in our room (unit 3) we could not establish a reliable connection on any one of four different devices, because the signal was so weak. Amongst the other problems we experienced: the bathroom featured a coloured concrete floor with mould embedded into its surface throughout the shower area, and rotting wall surrounds; the Venetian blinds were broken, with spare slats lying around in the bedroom area; a latch on a kitchen window literally could not be latched; and, arguably the worst issue, was the cockroach that scuttled across the table while we were eating our breakfast. The motel is also located on a road that is extremely busy at all hours. In my opinion, this accommodation is not appropriate for anyone, at any price.…
Pretty sure I'd completed this review in 2017 when we actually stayed at this hovel. After discovering that the sheets on the bed weren't fresh we requested a new room. To her credit the manager complied immediately, and without complaint. The facilities are dated. No, we won't stay here again.
This is a basic but very clean motel, in a nice location by the river. Very convenient to town. My kitchen was well stocked with everything I needed to cook. Friendly staff, too! Can't beat it for the price. Highly recommended.
