Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Have just spent three weeks here, using the Casa Blanca Motel as a base for visiting family and the area. It ticked all our boxes: it was comfortable, roomy accommodation and occupies a spacious open site - much roomier and more spacious than most NZ motels we have visited. Tel and Denise made us very welcome and put us at our ease. We were most impressed by the conscientiousness of the servicing team.

The Casa Blanca is what it is; it is not neither ultra modern nor posh. It unpretentiously met all our needs and we already have booked to return.

It has a large swimming pool. It is situated close to city centre and has ample easy parking.

Excellent value for money.

Clean room, friendly staff. Pretty basic and barebones but we were happy with our room! Some run down parts here and there (games room has seen better days for sure) but other than that, good, cheap stay. Only real con was that we didn't have a fan in our room, but one of the staff members quickly supplied one when we asked about it.

We only stayed for two nights but this was easily the most space we got from any of the motels we stayed in during our New Zealand trip. The hosts were very welcoming and encouraged us to use the (very decent sized) pool even though it was technically after hours. The grounds are a nice setting, feels like a small park.

They provide real milk which always makes me happy.

Dont pay in advance , paid for 3 nights in advance as this is what they asked for, but after 2 nights when partner became sick due to diaylisis and we had to leave at 6am the following morning , this motel refused to refund . Said we needed proof and even after that said no guarantee we would get a refund. Disgusting behaviour, never ever heard of it...ever.

The motel is poorly presented with rubbish and broken appliances piled hoarded around the yard. A few of the had tarpaulins on the roof obviously covering up leaks. The unit allocated to us had a tarp on the roof and a ground level window missing and covered up with cardboard and packing tape, not something we wanted with a newly crawling baby and a severe weather warning in place for the area. We were able to get a full refund and found a very decent motel for a similar price.

I entered the reception area to find the oldest framed photograph (I think - but still not sure) with a moldy stain on it. Messy. But not as much as the area next to the reception. A stockpile of whiteware...piled high. An old spa pool too. I think there was a trampoline well past its used by date. The room was very dated. We rewashed every utensil etc we used. The roof was covered with a tarpaulin as were many more near our room. Anither store area of junk piled high too near the laundry. We did meet a couple of cleaners on our way out. They were very pleasant. It appears to be used for emergency housing mixed with nightly booked rooms. Would not stay again.
Be weary.

If you blink you’d miss the rundown sign at the front, then proceed down a path full of potholes. The reception was filthy and disgusting. We nearly turned around and left but thought we’d see what the rooms are like. stained toilet seat, so asked for another room, got transferred to the next door, only to find out there was no hot water as the sinks hot water was dripping not stop. we were told to shower in the original unit. . We were tired so thought we’d transfer back but the final straw was when I found a spider in the blanket when I got into bed. Loud knocking late at night, tooting horns early morning n a barking dog all night..I would NEVER ever recommend this is to anyone. This facility should be closed for good. still trying to recover from such traumatic experience. I feel sick just thinking about it.

Does more need said? Not good, cockroaches through cupboards/rooms. No heating or Sky. Stay was supposed to be 3 nights, left after first. (Thought best not to add photos of infestation). Not value for money, would not recommend.

I staid with a girlfriend for four nights. This hotel is centrally located but has an eccentric owner. He has a lot of rubbish just outside next to the reception area. No info leaflets at all. We were only allocated 2 GB of WiFi for four days. This was cut off on day four. We only searched the internet for things to do and see near Whangarei. Everywhere else we were given 2 GB of WiFi per day. We had only been given milk on the first day. When asking for some on the third day as well as a little for the previous day, we were told that it is not given every day. However, the room rate is exactly the same rate as for staying one day. One of the two old lounge room chairs was in such bad condition, that we were not able to sit in it. The cleaning staff though were super friendly and did an excellent job. We stayed in numerous places on the North and South Islands and were quite happy with all of them. The best and with cheaper rates was New Castle Lodge Rotorua.

Pleasant enough owners, nice pool, convenient parking outside room. Close to city centre easy 3min drive. Otherwise room decor was very dated, 60s/70s throw back. Spacious tidy rooms unfortunately a couple of cockroaches in self contained kitchen. Stayed in room 23.
