We spent three nights in luxury between Christmas and New Year at this outstanding B&B. This is a stunning property. Our hosts, Valerie and Roger, shared our views on most things, so a favourite part of our day was during the scrumptious breakfast when we shared such interesting conversations. There are some beautiful places to visit within a short drive, but it was also nice to just relax and read a good book on the deck. The view over the lake is delightful. It is worth a trip to Northland just to stay here, if you can get in.
My wife and I wanted a quiet boutique B&B to spend the weekend together away from Auckland and decided to book ourselves into Brantome Villa because of the great reviews it has garnered in TA and also because it is situated in Whangarei which is a city that we have drove past many times while we are heading up to the Bay of Islands but have not really stopped to explore. The villa, which has a colonial design, is situated about 10 to 15 minutes drive from the Town Basin of Whangarei and sits on a piece of farmland overlooking a beautiful lake. We can immediately felt the serene surrounding of the villa. Our hosts, Valerie and Rogers are awesome hosts! Both are extremely friendly and helpful. The suite we are in has a garden view and has a bedroom, a lounge and a ensuite with heated floor (perfect for a winter night). The suite was in excellent condition and is very very tidy and clean. It is well and tastefully decorated and come with 2 TVs offering many paid Sky TV channels. There are also coffee and tea making facilities and a little fridge in the suite together with a little dining table for 2 if you wish to have a meal in the suite. Overall, the suite is almost perfect. The only little comment I had is the softness of the bed and pillows which is a little too soft for my liking but this is probably just my personal preference only. Afternoon tea was served on our arrival and the suite also includes breakfast. Breakfast served are traditional english breakfast and we get an option on when we want to have our breakfast. Breakfast is also only cooked when you are on the table ensuring your bacon and eggs are still fresh and hot when you eat them! We also decided to try their set dinner menu on one night at $50 per person which includes a bottle of wine, a main and a dessert. Again, we get to choose our dining time and again Valerie will cook our meals based on the time we are in to ensure food is served fresh. We opted for the grilled lamb and the grilled venison as our main which comes with roasted vegetables as sides. Both dishes were cooked perfectly and is comparable to any high end restaurant that you will go to! We then had the apple crumble and the Eton mess for dessert. Again both dessert tasted great. As a bonus, we were the only people dining in the villa that day so we basically had the whole dining lounge for ourselves which made our weekend retreat even better! Again, dinner service by our hosts was excellent and we thoroughly enjoy our meals. Apart from the great suites and the awesome hospitality, patrons of the B&B can also enjoy timeout in the beautiful garden of the villa or by the side of the lake which is a great option during summer. The landscaping of the garden is done really well and offers an amazing environment for patrons to just relax and watch the day goes by. Overall, this is definitely one of the best B&B that we have ever stayed in. Top notch service, top notch accomodation, top notch hosts! Highly recommended if you ever visit Whangarei! NOTE: Unfortunately, Valerie and Roger is retiring and the property is now up for sale. At the time of our visit, there is still no confirm buyers and it seems like Valerie and Roger will continue running the B&B until it is sold so if you are planning for a visit, do go soon! Hopefully this great villa will go to a worthy B&B operator which allows everyone to continue to enjoy this great B&B! Thanks Valerie and Roger for the kind hospitality! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Brantome Villa!…
This is a total luxury B&B. it is located a short drive from Whangarei in peaceful countryside overlooking a small ornamental lake. Our room was more like a small apartment with a large lounge, separate bedroom, lovely bathroom and doors to a gorgeous deck where you can take in the view and watch the sun set. The British expat hosts have gone to so much trouble to make your stay memorable with complementary extras such as chocolates, fruit, water & even Port. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice of food all served in the fabulous communal kitchen/diner. It was like staying in a wonderful friend's house for the night. Highly recommended.
What a fabulous discovery. Having cancelled our hotel accommodation after one night of poor service we were disparate to find alternative lodgings. We were so lucky to pick Brantome Villa as it was the perfect replacement. Roger and Valerie are charming hosts and their accommodation is spacious and very comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble. You can either be fussed over or left alone which ever is your choice. The property is quiet and the view spectacular. We will only ever chose Brantome Villa when staying in Whangarei. Having travelled often in the area, we were fortunate that the City was booked out accomodation wise and we found Brantome Villa just north. Roger and Valerie were very welcoming and friendly, even chased us all over Whangarei when we left a bag on leaving. The Villas were very comfortable, modern and beautifully finished. The setting was amazing , beside the lake. We will highly recommend this B and B to our friends.
Roger and Valerie are excellent hosts. On our arrival Valerie provided tea and muffins on our balcony. The accommodation is excellent in every way. Beautiful rooms and a lovely view of a small lake.. Our breakfast was was all that you could have wanted..A great place to stay.
The accommodation was beautifully furnished within lovely, spacious grounds very well kept. Valarie and Roger were the ideal hosts - friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. The breakfasts were tasty, well cooked and nicely presented. We would highly recommend Brantome Villa. Thank you for all you did to make our stay so memorable.
This was our first experience of B & B's in NZ and we certainly weren't disappointed. The house had been completely refurbished/rebuilt by the present owners, Roger and Valerie, who are really friendly and professional hosts. It is now modern with all you could wish for and immaculately presented. Each room was a complete suite with sitting room, and ours overlooked and opened out to the garden and lake beyond - quite something to wake up to. The bathroom was large and had a modern suite including a double-ended bath with choice of overhead or hand shower. The garden had a gazebo for lazing around, but we chose to spend most of the time seeing all that the local area had to offer. Many people head straight up from Auckland to the Bay of Islands but we decided to stop over here on the way and it was a great choice. Valerie and Roger advised us where to go and the highlight was a very scenic drive round the Whangerai Heads and back inland via the hills - a magical trip. We stayed two nights and had a superb freshly cooked breakfast each day. The large double bed was amazingly comfortable.…
Brantome Villa is picturesque B&B, situated on a country road with views of a lake. The rooms are beautifully decorated. The bathroom is AMAZING. Heated towel rack, huge sink, multiple shower heads, etc. The hosts are extremely helpful and friendly, but definitely gave us our space. They suggested different fun activities for us in the area and provided all the necessary amenities, including beach towels. If you're traveling here during the busy season and want to book guided activities, I definitely recommend booking at least a week or so in advance. Close to Whangarei but a little bit of a drive to the Tutukaka Coast, Bay of Islands, etc.
We stayed for three nights. Everything was perfect: accommodation, breakfast and the New Year's dinner. Special thanks to flawless and friendly hosts Valerie and Roger who made our stay enjoyable. We enjoyed every minute, especially relaxing at the lake side. One of the best B&Bs we have visited. Highly recommended place to stay and relax.
