Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The motel was well furnished with what appeared to be new carpeting with comfortable reclining chairs. Comfortable bed, spotlessly clean and about 10 minute walk to the main sights. Sandra and John were very helpful and friendly.

We were stuck in lovely Whanganui due to a major car break-down and booked the night here quite late in the day.
We could not have had a better experience. The room was spotless, modern & perfect, and the hosts could not have been kinder or more helpful.
They provided us with bread and spreads so we could make our breakfast, then host John drove us to Whanganui airport so we could fly home to Auckland. Such a pleasure to find this brilliant motel where they put their guests first and are genuinely supportive.
Many thanks from us, we will def visit again next time.

This really is a lovely motel. It is situated on a quiet street but very close to the town centre. Everything in the CBD is walkable. The rooms are modern, spacious and very clean, the new carpet is lovely.

I must also mention that the last minute addition to our parties number was accommodated with a larger room/ and bed to fit this extra party member when we would have been happy with making do, all the more kind as the motel was fully booked on the night in question. It was kind of the owners to make this possible thank you.

I highly recommend this motel should you need a nice and comfortable place to rest up in Whanganui.

Disgusting treatment, not child friendly or a safe place for a baby, got kicked out of our room for being “messy” at 8.45am. I have a 1 year old but tbh it was actually still quiet tidy, we left to drop me off somewhere I had to be at 9am with my baby and sitter coming back to clean up and hang in out in our room as we travelled from afar, unfortunately the owner unlocked and entered our room as we drove off and in her eyes it was a pigsty, she couldn’t justify what exact mess she was getting at, I told her it’s just pick up stuff, (which barely there was even a mess) and that we had no where to go and she did not care one bit. If you have a child do not stay here. I stayed here a month ago and she put her head into our room and told me to pick the food up off the ground or she would charge me a carpet cleaning fee, it was a popcorn chicken my baby had just dropped as she was in the middle of eating, I’m a mum of course I’m going to pick it up, it’s what we do. I felt so uncomfortable. Horrible treatment, no compassion, if it was a pigsty then completely understandable but we do not live like pigs!!

Response from Brian and Kathy Greensides, Owner at B-Ks Magnolia Motor Lodge
Responded 28 Apr 2024
Thank you for writing a ridiculous review. You haven't mentioned the real reasons you were asked to leave. When you stayed in March it was suggested you pick up the food off the carpet to avoid paying for a carpet clean, that had to be done anyway and you weren't charged for it. Our staff refused to service your room after going in to collect laundry when you went out at 8.55am. You also weren't charged for a deep clean that had to be done when you left this time. Your money was refunded to the same credit card payment was taken from and there was plenty of accommodation available in Whanganui the day you left. To say you were left stranded is an exaggeration. We are also missing the room key since your stay, but doubt you would be good enough to put it in a post box to be returned.

Stayed at this Motel while down at the big smoke for work.

The room was well appointed and warm. It was spotlessly clean which was very much appreciated.

The Mitel is one block back from the main drag but in close walking distance to main Supermarkets and other shops.

Friendly welcome for a last minute booking. Clean and comfortable with heating turned on for me. Good parking. Handy to main street (but not on it) supermarkets, gas etc. Proper milk always gets an extra tick as does good shower pressure. Easy to find and work switches, plenty of power points.

Last minute booking and had never stayed here before. Very pleasantly surprised, from the moment I made the booking over the phone, till we left. The unit was lovely, with 2 reclining chairs in lounge and Netflicks on tv. Heat pump and large ceiling fan also. Carpet was lovely and thick and very clean. Seperate bedroom, Bed super comfy and lots of pillows, large bathroom with great fan in, so the mirror never fogged up! And there was a large tea pot!! Super service and lovely hosts, will be our place to stay next time in Whanganui. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Very clean and well appointed motel. We stayed in a 1 bedroom unit which was spacious and very comfortable.
Very quiet area.
Very easy to walk to many places of interest , restaurants etc.
Parking right outside the units.
The only negative was poor TV reception on some channels and the TV system was not user friendly. We understand this is to be remedied asap.
