We stayed here one night. The hotel is located on a quiet tree-lined street.

Check in was quick and easy but the person checking us in was not very friendly. I had to ask for the WiFi password, and she did not offer any other help with amenities or anything else.

The room was just basic, and the heating was not very good. Also, the internet speed was VERY slow. I was not able to upload photos to Facebook after trying for several hours.

I would not recommend this hotel, nor would I stay there again.

Econo Lodge is located in a tree-lined side near Whanganui Collegiate and shares the Quality Inn Collegiate site. There is an onsite restaurant and bar "The Oaks" which has a good selection of meals mid to high price range. It is also easy walking/driving distance to Victoria Avenue with a selection of food outlets and supermarkets nearby. Our ground floor unit had a full kitchen with an open plan dining/lounge area. The spacious bedroom had a comfortable queen sized bed with bedside tables and a dressing table/desk, The TV is on a novel rotating shelf unit meaning that you could watch it in either the lounge or in the bedroom. We were happy with the retro '70s style (the photos give a good indication of what you are getting) - finding it relaxing and comfortable well suited to our needs. An efficient heat pump ensured we were cozy and warm. The bathroom and toilet are compact and as is often the case with motels of this vintage you could hear some water noise when neighbours were showering. Everything was very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful too. We will be happy to stay here again.

Visited and had a self catering unit across from reception. It was clean and tidy but dated. The kitchen facilities were the same. Confortable place but in need of a refurbishment. Would I stay again? Probably as it was at a good price point for what it offered

Very friendly staff greeted me on arrival. The unit is quite dated. The kitchen and bathroom could do with an upgrade. Two really annoying things. One was the shower has good pressure but goes cold. I assume it is when someone else uses their shower but its really horrible. The second is the internet. I was told it can be slow when the motel is busy but it was so slow I could not do the work I needed to do. The bed was not to bad and it seemed to be quite quiet. I would stay here again but they really need to sort the shower out.

We stayed in the old style motel units (30 numbers) and had a great stay. Nice and clean rooms, well appointed with seperate kitchen.

Great location, close to supermarkets, lake and cafe's. The train ripping through at 6am is a good alarm clock. Our 2 nights at Econo were the best stay of our trip and was a blast from the past kiwiana style.

The rooms are spacious and clean. Toilets and shower stall are small. Just lots of small things wrong. Broken key, slow internet, a train line next door, stained carpet, a leaking tap and an extra unneeded bed crowding the living room (told left there as they were busy and didn't have time to move it)

Econolodge is an cheaper accommodation option in Whanganui. The units are clean, spacious and comfortable. A bonus is that there is free Wi-Fi, via a coupon available at the office. The kitchen comes with all facilities needed for cooking,. I appreciated that the rooms were serviced daily - very helpful and friendly staff. I've stayed there a few times now, and I will certainly continue to stay here when I'm in Whanganui.

Room Tip: In cold weather, it's fine to leave the panel heater on all day, so that it's cozy at night.
