We had an excellent stay at the campsite/hut. They had a full kitchen with gas stoves, pans, dish soap, and a boiling water dispenser. The views are stunning and there are plenty of nice areas to hang out and eat. Campsite guests are invited to visit the bar at the lodge, where you can buy drinks for a reasonable price and enjoy even better views. The grounds were quiet and serene in the evening. Excellent service from the staff.

We recently stayed in the camping area here. The views over the river were absolutely superb. We were pleased to be met at our boat to have our barrels taken up to the camping spot.

We were glad we camped here opposed to Tieke opposite which was absolutely heaving with boats and campers.

The facilities have a rustic charm, which we loved.

It was nice to be able to head up to the lodge for a (reasonably priced) drink and take in the absolutely stunning views in both directions up and down the river.

Would happily recommend, and visit again.

We only booked this place through our canoe hire company because the doc camp spot across the river was fully booked, but we were extremely happy in the end. They have a lot of different formulas (campground, bunkhouse, room with or without food), but the added value and friendly owners prevail in all of them. Get a drink here by sunset at the bar and just enjoy!

Thanks for your review Vicky. So glad that you ended up staying with us and enjoyed your time here and on the river. Yes we get a lot of canoeist staying at the campground and are very well supported by the various canoe companies. Most manage to come up for a drink at the bar and to enjoy the view. Mandy :)

I Booked a jet boat ride as part of our mountains to sea ride down the Wanganui river from bridge to nowhere to the lodge.
Great end to a days riding and an awesome spot to sit and look upstream and downstream from their terrace while having a cold drink . A lovely communal, buffet style dinner followed with the other guests and then we canoed down the river the next morning. Great buffet style breakfast too
Friendly, helpful staff.
Just ensure if you canoe downstream your valuables are in a working dry bag as we used one of their barrels which leaked and destroyed a phone and a camera

We stayed at the Lodge on 2nd January after a very wet day of paddling on the river. What a wonderful place to stay! The crew collected all our drums and gear from the jetty on their four wheeler motorbike so we did not have to carry anything up the hill. They were all very welcoming and friendly, and even allowed the two younger ones in our party who had booked to stay at the campsite to stay up at the Lodge since they and all their gear was saturated. (After our 5 day paddle of the Whanganui River, our group discussed highlights over dinner and being able to stay at the Lodge rather than in their wet tent was the highlight for one of the young ones).

The Lodge is situated up on the hill with a beautiful view of the river. And the fog over the river the next morning was also stunning. And the Lodge itself was very welcoming with a log fire going and a large lounge and dining room and big deck all looking out over the river.

One of our party had also ended up at the Lodge a day early, having paddled past our campsite and having gotten himself into a spot of trouble (we had his tent and food...). The team at the Lodge provided him with a bed and food and took great care of him. He is Nepalese and rather inexperienced and was quite stressed by having missed our campsite and getting separated from our group and his 9 hour paddle to get to the Lodge. But the caring actions of the team at the Lodge meant that his 'ordeal' turned into awe at the kindness and caring of New Zealanders and people in general. THANK YOU!

There are two types of stays here: the lodge and the cabins/ campground. If you stay at the lodge, they welcome you with open arms "Welcome to Bridge to Nowhere, we've been waiting for you" and you will probably have an amazing time. If you arrive at the same time but are there for the cabins or campground, you will get chastised that you didn't arrive at the 3 to 4 time slot that we didn't even know was a requirement. We stayed in the cabins. They are expensive for what you get: $30/person and $240/night of a group of 8. If you are thinking about staying in the cabins or campground, don't do it. I just recommend staying across the way at the DOC Tīeke Campsite. Pros: Nice view from cabins. Cons: Treated poorly like second class citizens, the water is brown with globs in it which may be manuka or possum poo so you need to treat it, the cabins are dirty, the toilets are super dirty including thick mattes of dead bugs and webs and you need to bring your own toilet paper, no electricity in your expensive cabins, lots of possums knocking over your barrels at night time, the path to the cabins and campground is extremely rutted from the 4 wheel drive vehicles so it is very difficult to walk on while you carry your stuff up the long steep hill, the deeply rutted paths are also very slippery and I fell 6 times and may soon file an ACC claim for my injury, if you are lucky the 4 wheel drive vehicle person may take your stuff up or down the hill but we weren't lucky so I'm guessing most people aren't lucky (and it is not that there wasn't opportunity, but because we were "second class citizens" - for example - we were told, "I can't help you because you weren't here at the right time and I've worked too long a shift today," and they then proceed to help the lodge stayers with a welcoming smile and greeting, but after we slog our stuff to the cabins this person coincidentally (and threateningly) comes right over to ask if we paid yet (and we prepaid months before) and doesn't tell us anything about the cabins or campground so we have to figure everything out ourselves. So, I wouldn't recommend the cabins or campground here.

Our group of 16 stayed in cabins at the Bridge to Nowhere Lodge and Campground as part of a three day kayaking trip. The campground is deep in the Whanganui National Park in an idyllic location. The campground is rustic but has hot showers, an outdoor kitchen area and plenty of picnic tables scattered around - just be prepared to use the long drops! The cabins are simple but were a treat after tenting. There are beautiful views over the river and you can get a cold beer up at the lodge too!

We had a fabulous trip - At the Lodge we were expecting a basic dinner but we were delighted with the abundance of quality restaurant worthy food. The continental breakfast was a perfect ending the next morning.
Staff were so friendly and we felt like we were staying with friends who wanted us to enjoy our stay.
We will definitely be revisiting this little slice of paradise. The trip is well worth it to see the Bridge to Nowhere, the stunning scenery, the friendly people, the amazing river trip. Thank you to the staff at the Lodge, our stay with you was the icing on the cake for this trip.

Our group of 14 cyclists stayed here in March 2020 and felt very welcome and comfortable. We enjoyed an amazing jet boat trip up the Wanganui river, full with historic information and spins!
The views up and down river from the lodge were incredible!
Our rooms were clean and very comfortable.
Our dinner was superb, with so many different salads, meat and even plum pudding!

My friend and I struck it lucky by default having initially planned to freedom canoe the river over 3 days with accomodation in DOC huts - timing set us on a different course. We booked everything through the Bridge To Nowhere business -including jet boat trip from Pipiriki/walk into the ‘bridge to nowhere”, canoe trip back to the “bridge to nowhere lodge’ for the night , canoe back to starting point at Pipiriki. We had a great jet boat driver/guide/historian (Jonathan), the charming lodge was beautifully positioned for river & bush views and hospitality wonderrful. We will without doubt return to stay at the lodge. Awesome experience from start to finish.
