The trip included my daughter and granddaughter. We were pleasantly surprised and impressed by the level of customer service, the cleanliness of the unit, the closeness to the city centre and the main arterial routes were all winners. They were just all round good people with a good team looking to give guests an impressionable stay. They succeeded.

We were unsure from the photos, but though dated , almost ‘retro’ we were pleasantly surprised. Gone are the flowery bed covers and the sheets were pristine clean.
It had all the amenities we needed for a family of four with two teenagers, well stocked full kitchen and drinks (including hot chocolate) sugar, salt & pepper toiletries etc, plenty of tea towels, washing up liquid etc. The bathroom had plenty of towels, toilet rolls and toiletries for 4 people.
There was a choice of sleeping options (with 5 single beds as well as a double).
The 2 bedrooms are upstairs and the bathroom, lounge and kitchen downstairs.
Our double room overlooked the racecourse and the unit was set back from the road so nice and quiet.
The unit was serviced daily and staff were on site and easy to find if you needed anything ( not that we did). More than I can say for 4 & 5 star hotels we have stayed in!
Not flash, not new, but clean, welcoming with a full kitchen and all the space and comforts you need for a family. We would definitely stay here again ❤️

Stayed here for another skating event. 2 kids, 2 adults and lots skating gear! We stayed in a two bedroom unit. Bedrooms are upstairs, bathroom, kitchen, lounge downstairs. Lots of space, clean, simple decor. Will definately stay here again. Great value for money, and close to everything.

We found the motel by accident but it proved to be one of the best in our month long travels around New Zealand. Comparatively cheap, large room, free WiFI, Sky TV and absolutely spotlessly clean.
What more could you want?

The town is a pleasant little place and the regional museum there worth a visit.

Upon arrival we were warmly greeted, and shown our rooms. These proved to be very roomy, spotless and the best bath towels we found in our three weeks travelling around NZ. the hotel is a short 15 - 20 minute walk from shopping facilities and town central. The bed was comfortable and there was no shortage of hot water, with free Wi-Fi thrown in. A great little motel.

Everything about this place was solid except the wifi - it kept cutting out at inopportune moments (6 times in one hour!), and when I asked the woman at the front desk to please reset the system, she acted like I didn't know how to use the wifi, which was insulting. /Her attitude was quite patronizing and I found her irritating to deal with. The wifi never did work properly and I eventually gave up.

Room was spacious, everything was very clean, bed was comfortable. No a/c, but rooms cool off once the sun goes down. Shower pressure is good, but the soft water means you never feel all the soap is rinsed off.

Wifi is a very important feature for hospitality in this day and age and it needs to be reliable.

The Coachman's Lodge sounds like a good old highway motel and it is, right on the highway, looking like it should. But inside, there are large rooms. separate bedroom, kitchen facilities, table and chairs, extra bed. spread out and cater for yourself. All very clean and well-maintained. Easy access to a walking track down by the river if you are that way inclined. Walk the circuit across the two bridges. Very economical, especially with the pace it delivers.

This is a brilliant motel. The units are very spacious, comfortable and immaculately clean. The beds are super comfy and we had two lazy boy chairs in the living room. Plenty of parking outside the unit, very close to the city and walks down by the river. Free wi-fi too. Very friendly owners. Highly recommended as the best place to stay in this beautiful city.

Coachmans Lodge is our preferred place to stay in Wanganui.
We have been staying at Coachmans Lodge for the past five years or so and have found it to be consistently spotlessly clean, comfortable and have all the facilities we need. Trevor and Luz (the owners) are fantastic people who go the extra mile to help all their guests have an enjoyable stay - there are not many people who have such a fantastic gift for service these days nor are there many motels you find this happen at!!!! It is great to find somewhere it does. When tv swtiched over to freeview last week, there was a tv and a freeview box in out unit and when they checked it after the switch over they found it worked fine. It was clumsy to use, but fine. Even though it worked - they went out and bought a brand new tv for us to make it easier. How many motels would do that!!! We really appreciate how the units are always clean and everything always functions properly. The linen is always new and fresh and feels good to use. The beds are comfortable, the heating quiet, water pressure great - all things that make a huge difference to a comfortable stay. Thanks so much - we will be back and we recommend Coachmans Lodge to all.
