Detailed Reviews
My wife and I stayed here on our way home up north after spending six weeks touring the South Island. We arrived at Wanganui at about 4pm having left our motel in Picton at 7am. We hadn't booked anything so we went to the Information Centre where a very helpful man gave us details of various motels. Aotea Motor Lodge was the only one we visited because it seemed OK and we were tired. We had a large studio unit which had an enormous double spa bath in the corner of the room. plenty of lights, to compensate for the relatively dark decor, a large TV with a selection of Sky channels, free fast Wifi, very comfortable armchairs and very convenient close to the door car parking. However, the carpet was old and grubby looking and the standard of general cleaning was lacking in a few areas, particularly in the bathroom and shower where the black tiles make it very difficult to show a clean finish. The bed was too soft for our liking and there was no hob

Wanted somewhere nice for our 46th Anniversary and our stay wasn't bad but could have been much better. Firstly went for a shower and stepped out on to the white floor towel only to discover it was covered with brown filth from the shower and no, it wasn't from me, so I used one of the face towels to clean the floor of the shower and boy was it dirty but couldn't be seen because of the colour of the tiles.
Secondly as I was walking across the floor in my bare feet I spotted something glint and was shocked to find a bent sewing needle that had apparently been heated at the pointed end, I presume either to sterilise it or for some other illegal activity but whatever it was not a welcome surprise!
The facilities are good with quiet fridge, a HUGE double spa that I didn't use, comfy bed and good TV but not many SKY channels however thats not unusual.
There are several big supermarkets right next to it along with plenty of fast food outlets so no problem cutting down on expenses.Manager at reception was very nice and I did mention my concerns to him on my departure.
The only real drawback is its a long walk to the main shopping area and restaurants if you fancy a beer with a meal so no drink driving but apart from that a very pleasant stay. I wont condemn the Motel for perhaps one staff member having an off day.

Comfortable motel with friendly, helpful host. We found the beds very comfortable and our room (which was at the rear of the property) was very quiet.
Only downside was towels were a little worse for wear and room was starting to show it’s age - but was still perfectly fine.
Will stay again.

This place is very noisey, the walls are thin as you can hear the TV and other noises from the nearby units.
The stupid heat pump started up in the middle of the night and wouldn’t stop.
There is a strange arrangement that two units share a door from outside, when someone enters the neighbouring room it sounds like someone is opening the door to your room.

We were lucky to find a room at late notice as it was a holiday weekend in Whanganui with the Heritage show on. The Aotea Motor Lodge was great. Nice spacious room with large spa bath, which we used each night. We didn't make much uses of the kitchen, but it seemed to be well fitted out. Good WiFi strength. We were at the back where parking is adequate but a little tight and requires some manoeuvring, but not a problem. Being at the back it was very quiet. It is located very close to several large supermarkets, petrol station and restaurants. It would be our first choice if we are staying in Whanganui again.

Clean and exactly as expected accommodation for the price paid and as advertised. Not flash, but clean and tidy. Could do with a modernize and renovate. Electric car charger opposite the motor lodge at the supermarket. Air conditioning in the room needs an overhaul as makes a lot of noise and not cooling as much as it should. We turned it off as couldn’t sleep with the noise. Staff friendly when needed and on arrival.

Stayed in a one bedroom unit. Very clean unit. The beds were very comfortable. The spa is a waste of time, controls are difficult to access and you can’t get the temperature right, too much effort so we just emptied it. Good location. Room was very quiet

We had a very comfortable room. Taking my mum away we booked a room with two beds. It was so spacious, had an amazingly big SPA bath for two, really comfortable chairs to sit and watch TV, great shower and big deck. We were really pleased with the room. The location was perfect as it was close to 3 supermarkets, restaurants closeby and even across the road, and the St Johns Club was just around the corner. Definitely would come back.

Check in very stark not the most friendly the room had a lovely huge spa but there were cobwebs on the ceiling the wine glasses and mugs were dirty with finger prints etc. No phone in room and when had slight problem the owner came and fixed it he appeared to be not happy getting him out they advertise 50 plus tv channels but we only 10. We certainly wouldn't stay here again. Perhaps we got the owners on a bad day

The design of the room we had was very strange. With an enormous, almost swimming pool sized spa bath in the far corner, the room became too small to accommodate the small double and one single bed. It meant that if we shared the larger bed (which we felt was too small by today’s standards), the person on the spa pool side stepped out onto cold tiles hard up against the pool.
The sheets on the bigger bed were too small (though nice quality), so came untucked instantly.
Thank strange layout meant that the rather nice chairs and coffee table were jammed up between the windows and smaller bed.
The room had all the nice extras, but the design and aging bathroom let it down.
