We continue to ask ourselves, why do we keep going back, and what draws us to Te Mata Lodge?

There have been changes in ownership over the years, and with it an ever evolving improvement with the space, a falling away of the old to make way for the new!

For us, regardless, it is a spiritual connection to the Hosts and land. The gentle sound of the flowing river at night and the buzzing mosquitoes that bite you to remind you that you are still alive. The soothing song of bird life in the morning that awakens you from a deep slumber. All you need to do is close your eyes and listen.

Bevan and Family, Marnie and Zelda, thank you for your stories, thank you for continuing to share such a magical place.

So glad we found this place - beautiful location and grounds, very helpful owner, and very comfortable accommodation. We had read all the information and were fully aware that it was campsite facilities, but with a lovely wooden cabin instead of a tent. Suited us and the other couple we were travelling with perfectly - we had a cabin per couple. The cooking facilities were much better than most of the other budget accommodation we've stayed in, the wifi worked, and there was a washing machine. You can even swim in the river from the grounds.

We have just arrived home from a perfect long weekend spent a Te Mata lodge. With the very reasonable price of the cabin for our family of 5 I can’t say that we were expecting a lot. I’m pleased to say I’ve never been more happy to be wrong ! The lodge is nestled in the middle of the bush with a real sense of tranquility but still close enough to the main road and beaches. We spent a good deal of our time enjoying the amenities the lodge provides at no extra cost. Kayaking in the swimming whole right next to the property. A great playground area and many out door games. Cricket, badminton etc. bbq’s and little picnic areas are doted around the property. There are bush walks you can take and a track to view glow worms at night. The hosts I could not fault. Very welcoming and extremely helpful. At one point over the weekend the hot water stopped working for a few hours but they happily invited guests to use the showers in the main house until the problem was fixed. We are already hoping to plan a return trip in January. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for accommodation in the area.

Thank you for such a stunning review and also for your understanding when the hot water cylinder failed. We were very happy to have that fixed in the day. The weather has been stunning of recent and the swimming hole is closer to 26 degrees celsius. It is great to hear how much you enjoyed your stay and we do hope to see you again sometime in January. Best Wishes, Mike

We based ourself in one of the cabins for a week. The cabins were basic but had a fridge and TV/DVD player. DVDs were available, free of charge from reception. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and cutlery. The shower and toilet block was fine too.

Outdoor BBQs and seating as well as a large grassed area. Located on the river, there is a swim hole, life jackets and kayaks. A bush walk and other waterhole also available.

We traveled across the Coromandel from here. From Whitianga through to Coromandel Town, Taurua and Thames.

The hosts were hopeful and friendly. This was a great alternative to camping for us. Recommend.

We were lucky enough to get away for 3 nights in this beautiful location. We stayed in the cottage accommodation with our 2yr old, with some friends staying in cabins.
The location is stunning, and we loved the feeling of being tucked away amongst the trees while still being close to the town.
It was the perfect spot for our family getaway, we were able to bring our 5m boat, and the close location of the boat ramp and mussel farms meant our 2yr old could comfortably enjoy her first sea fishing experience.
The kids had an absolute ball running around, playing on the playground and trampoline, and exploring the river on the kayaks.
A huge thanks to our hosts, Bevan was great at accommodating our requests, and it was great to be able to support fellow kiwis in these tough times.

We came in a convoy of a handful of families and friends to stay two nights.
I stayed in the cosy two bedroom cottage, it has its own kitchen and bathroom, it is comfy, clean and tidy.
My kids, well everyone, loved the little river swim morning and arvo.
Theres activity equipment like swingball, badminton etc available.
The families we went with enjoyed having bbq picnics under the trees.
It is near enough to hot water beach so that was the second days daytrip.
I enjoyed the birdsong in the bush at dawn, watching the sun set, learning about the chalcedony rocks in the stream.
Just sitting still for a breather in a beautiful calm place.
Really friendly host and i really recommend this place its got something for anyone on many levels.
I recommend it for a family or group of people with different interests because im sure its useful for this.

Thank you for leaving us a review. It was a pleasure to see your friends and the children enjoying the swimming hole and making the most of the property. And even better to hear you found some space to be still. Many of us have lost that skill in our crazy paced lives.

The location is perfect. Whether you choose to stay on the property and enjoy the swimming, sunning, BBQing, just plain relaxing opportunities or to explore further afield; Te Mata Lodge is the place to do it. Centrally located to Thames, Coromandel City, Coroglen and numerous beaches for fishing, boat launching, tramping- you name it. The family run operation is accommodating and pleasant. The Chalet we stayed in was clean, bright and fully stocked for every cooking need. Would definitely stay again.

Thanks so much for the detailed review... We appreciate the sentiment expressed in your starting sentence, and here's why: Our family have owned this property for close to seven years and most days we still "pinch" ourselves to see if it is for real... we love living here & getting to share our location & facilities with our guests. DO come again! Blessings.

Words cannot explain how much my family loved the 6 days we spent at Te Mata Lodge! The river was such a great bonus since they provided free use of their kayaks and rope swings, this had the kids refusing to go on our planned beach days as they preferred the river at the lodge!! Our cabins were more than accommodating and we had great communication leading up to our trip with the hosts Bev and Marnie.

Thank you Te Mata lodge, we will 100% book again in the future!

Owners were very welcoming when we arrived.
Great place to stay to get away from it all. Nice and peaceful.
Cool swimming spots around the property. Good kids to play area.
The 2 bedroom chalet was lovely and clean, had everything that we needed.
Only one concern I had was that there was no signage on driveway to chalets lodge etc warning that people could be walking on drive and to drive slow but apart from that I would highly recommend coming to stay at Temata Lodge.

We had a wonderful stay, beautiful place, great for families with young kids. Good location, big garden. The place is run by nice people that were very accessible and happy to help. They offer their kayaks which was very fun for the kids as they have a safe area to practice some basic kayak skills:-)
