The Lady Bowen Bed and Breakfast has a Historic Places Category 2 listing. Guests can stay in this charming 156 year old building that has been lovingly renovated into very comfortable heritage accommodation. The layout of the building remains much as it was in 1868, with bedrooms and guest bathroom upstairs and guest lounge and guest dining areas downstairs. Guests also enjoy use of the front balcony, covered deck and garden areas. It is a short flat stroll to the many eateries, cafes and takeaways in historic Thames. We are about half a block from the waters edge of the Firth of Thames and the walkway that runs along it. The Hauraki Cycle Trail is also close-by and it's a short drive to the world famous Pinnacles walk and many other great walks in the area. We are an ideal base for a holiday around the Coromandel or as we are less than 90 mins from Auckland International (and Domestic) airport are the perfect accommodation for a first or last night of a New Zealand holiday.

The hospitality started the minute we arrived. We asked if we could wash our bikes after a day of cycling in the rain. No cleaning your bikes and putting your batteries on charge is part of the service. We were given a history tour of the house, shown to our rooms and offered a wine and beer with a lovely cheese and meat platter which we enjoyed on the top veranda. I had cut my leg while cycling which our host noticed and gave me several plasters to keep the cut covered. The cooked breakfast next morning was large and well cooked with a choice of breads for toast. Juice too. There is hot water and tea/coffee/hot chocolate available 24/7 and biscuits or sweets to have with your drinks.

The whole house is spotlessly clean. The bedrooms are lovely and the bedding top quality. The guest lounge was nicely decorated for Xmas.

My husband and I loved the Lady Bowen B&B it is in very good hands with Barbara and Stu. All rooms are beautifully appointed and waking up to sounds of the birds softly tweeting was glorious. The shared bathrooms are immaculately kept so please don't be put off by this offering. It is absolutely no bother and toiletries and beautifully smelling fluffy towels are provided. There is a glorious upstairs balcony that you can sit on or alternately an equally stunning garden deck for a beverage of choice. Barbara and Stu clearly love their garden and also welcome group arrangements of travellers. If you happen to be riding on a bike they can also provide a suitable option for the bike if you ask.

The cooked breakfast was sensational. Our only personal fault was that we did not follow through on the dinner recommendation of Gastronomic's and I'm know kicking myself for not heading the advice. Thames is very walkable so leave you mode of transport and stretch your legs.
We Truly enjoyed Thames and the Lady Bowen B&B

This was our second stay at The Lady Bowen and highly recommend. The owners are friendly and welcoming and start with giving you some history about the The Lady Bowen. They leave out hot and cold water, with tea and coffee on the upper level so you don’t have to walk downstairs from your room for a hot or cold drink. The place is clean, beds are comfortable and they serve up a great breakfast.

Managed to squeeze me in last moment and quite late in the evening after fleeing a dodgy air bnb and I'm so glad I ended up staying here!
The place is really homely and comfortable, Stu and Barbara were super welcoming and hospitable with out being over bearing which was perfect for me as I was wanting alone time during a solo holiday. Cooked a beautiful breakfast for me each morning and the communal bathrooms and bedrooms were absolutely spotless.
Will definitely stay again as I have to travel to Thames regularly.
Thanks guys!

What a little charmer. Welcomed by Barb and Stu with a lovely warm fire, glass of red, cheeses and lovely conversation. Rooms were so cosy, bed comfy. Shared bathroom was so spotless and even being quite full never saw any other guest. Walking distance to the town centre for dinner. Breakfast was delicious and a friendly chat with Stu while cooking. Such wonderful history in this little B&B. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much.

This was a great find and we would definitely come back if staying in Thames. Location is a quick walk to the beach and other places of interest in town. There's so much history and character in Thames, we wished we could have stayed longer.
The shared toilets and showers were clean and never an issue, even though when we stayed there were 9 others - never felt crowded or had to wait.
Our hosts were friendly and helpful, breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Thank you Stu and Barbara for upgrading us too - very kind and generous of you! We also enjoyed the wine and Daisy's company out in the garden. Will definitely recommend!

The Lady Bowen is the most beautiful, historic B&B - located in the old gold-mining town of Thames - with heaps to see and do in the area.

The rooms are immaculately clean, with crisp, fresh linens and a lovely atmosphere. I slept like a baby and woke up refreshed and ready to go!

The guest areas are lovely for chilling out, relaxing with a book, watching TV, playing games or even soaking up some sunshine.

Barbara and Stu are the kindest, friendliest and most generous and helpful hosts you could hope to find.

I heartily encourage anyone to stay here. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome, the cleanest, most comfortable rooms and an absolutely delicious breakfast!

We found this gem of a place on our travels, this previous hostel has been restored to now take bed and breakfast guest.

The couple running the place really look after you, not only with the Accomodation and breakfast but gives an interesting account of local history and places to visit.

Thames have some great pubs and restaurants, well worth a visit.

Our extended family stayed at the Lady Bowen for 2 family celebrations in Thames. Our hosts were so welcoming and accommodating. The Bed and Breakfast is a beautiful old historic building. Our room was gorgeous with great linen and a very comfortable bed. It is in a quiet street and has a very peaceful garden where you can enjoy the delicious and generous breakfast. The accommodation was an excellent choice for our family. We will be back..

Hotel is a very beautiful and one of the oldest buildings in New Zealand. Was told brief history of it when checking in. The building has a great 19th century style and it's a pleasure to stay there, not only in your room but in the kitchen, garden, play/reading room (books, pool, chess etc.) or the big balcony in front where you can sit with a drink and relax. Hosts are very friendly and helpful. Location is perfect. Very quiet area near the Victoria Park and coastal walkway but also short walk from a busy city center. Breakfast was great with a variety of food to choose from.
Cannot imagine staying anywhere else when in Thames.
