I wasn't given best advice on local eateries. I had had a long bus trip and would have really appreciated knowing that just down the road was an excellent restaurant. The bed was comfortable enough, the curtains and drapes hardly covered the windows.

Finding value for money accommodation in Palmerston North seems more difficult than finding a shred of humility in Jeremy Clarkson, but the search goes on.
Broadway is well located just a few minutes walk from the Square. The room is spacious with a small, well kitted kitchen, dining table, flatscreen tv and reasonably comfortable bed. There is a second bedroom at the back with 2 single beds so it suits a family. The bathroom was pretty poor with a broken tap and a run-down feel.
The front of the unit is all glass making it light but also feeling a bit like a fish bowl. Privacy could be an issue for some people.
Outside our room was a metal staircase specially designed to sound like you have just stumbled into a Taiko drumming school whenever someone uses it. Go for an upstairs room if you can like the family above us who returned late at night with a screaming child and a troop of elephants who they then set about teaching to tap-dance in clogs.
The mould on the curtain in the back bedroom gives the starkest indication that for the price you should not expect too much, except possibly a respiratory infection.

The whole room was very dirty with stains on the carpet and the bedding was dirty with Urine stains all over the electric blanket and mattress. The mattress also smelt of Urine.
What i dont understand is why all beds in Motels and Hotels don't have waterproof Mattress Protectors protecting all the beds.
It also had only one blind covering half the bedroom window. It also had empty RTD bottles under the bed.

Very nice, homely feel. The bathroom and kitchen were a little run down, but clean. Great location, just a small walk to the middle of town. There was also parking right outside my room which I really liked.

Sorry but this will not be a place i will go back to.
ripped floor tiles in the kitchen, rusty towel rail in the bathroom, blind missing in the bedroom Bedroom has no external windows just one large window for the lounge so cannot block out light form the lounge), light bulb missing in the bedroom, no floor bath mats provided (none available on request either). On the up side, it is quite close to the centre of things, and the best fish and chip shop is Fishtown takeaways is on Ferguson Street.

This has to be the WORST accommodation I have ever stayed in! The first night the painting fell of the wall because the hanger had not been properly installed - and landed on my head as it was above the bed. Then the next evening I returned to find it (the painting) was still sitting on the couch after I had advised the front desk that morning? The guy on the desk was unkept, eating his breakfast at the desk with paperwork and general state of untidiness all around. The motel was unserviced! BEWARE they do not tell you anywhere that your bed will not be made, floor will not be vacuumed, bathroom wont be cleaned or even the soap wrappers wont be picked up (no rubbish bin in bathroom) and taken away. The room had many hairs in the bathroom and kitchen! The clock radio was not set and impossible to work out how to set (obviously why it was unplugged ) so why not just remove it. And the motel is it seems social welfare housing. Not that there is anything wrong with that BUT just because they probably don't service these rooms their standards have dropped elsewhere. Each SWH room had table and chair outside and the ashtrays were full all the time - surely the motel would clean at least these? Bottom line is you get what you pay for and it was cheap BUT they should advertise the fact you are buying an unserviced room!

Situated somewhat off the road near a major church. Has kitchenettes and spacious rooms. Is near some bars and restaurants. Service does not include making of beds with multi-day stays. Quiet place with parking immediately in front of the rooms.

Rooms rather lacking. Only heating in our room was a small oil heater for a family unit. No smoke alarms, no extractor fan in the bathroom. Taps in bathroom & kitchen broken, but still usable. Older units lacked power points.
Beds were clean & warm with electric blankets. Parking difficult & iffy as part of motel car park sold to new building built in front for their parking.
Upside - Great Location

We had booked the one bed apartment as a stop over with another couple that we were travelling with. I rang ahead to let them know we would be arriving after the office had closed and he said what room we were in - Unit 2 - and that he would leave the light on. Unfortunately he didnt and it did take me a little while to find the light swtiches. This is very basic accommodation at its best that with a little bit of elbow grease and some maintainance could be more acceptable. We had no milk in our fridge for a hot drink which I have never encountered before and the tap handles in both the bathroom and kitchen sink were broken off. The shower curtain for all they cost could be replaced as it is very mouldy and even the toilet seat moved. The two single beds in the back room were apparantly very comfortable but there was only an extra two pillows available. The office was due to be open by 7 in the morning and after waiting we finally rung the bell and a dishevelled male arrived at the office, who had been previously sitting outside smoking when we arrived and had not introduced himself. We have stayed in various accommodations throughout New Zealand but this would have to be one of the worst we have come across. Maybe it is just this room as I looked on Trip Advisor because the cost was so cheap and wondered why - now I know but as we were only there to sleep and shower very quickly in the morning it was very economical for us. Parking is also at a premium.

Stayed for one night - reception was excellent , very friendly. Room was exactly what we needed, it wasn't flash but contained every thing needed for a nights stay. The only complaint was the toilet area had not been cleaned properly and the shower pressure was weak. . I would stay here again as it was close to town but quiet.
