Garry and Barry should be awarded the "Most caring hosts" award for their work at the Railway Hotel Backpackers. Each bed comes with amenities, cookies, breakfast and a whole lot care. The value is incredible. The building itself is stunning and ads to the luxurious feel of this hostel. This is flashpacking at its best! This is hands down the best hostel we have stayed at so far!

When we arrived in Palmerston North at the i-Site, we got recommended the Railway Hotel. It's very easy to find and just a short walk from the bus station and all the shops. We didn't make a booking beforehand but that did not stop the extremely friendly owners to point us to a room right away. We paid for a dorm room but got a room together with a bunk bed, which was a really nice surprise. Great room facilities too, especially for this price. We got a microwave, a fridge, two sinks, a TV, a comfy bed, free superfast Wi-Fi and everything for making coffee and tea (+ cookies!) The nearby lounge room was relaxing with a nice sofa, big TVs and a computer with Internet for free use. The kitchen has everything it needs and was of higher quality than most backpacker hostels. An

A genuinely lovely place to stay. I got of the bus with nowhere planned and was pointed in there direction. The rooms were excellent with a homely feel, and the kitchen was tidy and comforting. Both Barrie and Gary were polite, friendly, talkative and interested in what and where I was going. The rugby museum is a must for any rugby fans. Definitely a place to visit or stop off on the way to wellington.

On first impressions we were a little worried, it is obviously an old building but let me tell you it's full of charm. We were greeted by a lovely man who was very nice to let us check in earlier than planned and he was continuously so friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It was certainly the small things that went a long way! We had a private double, which included a fridge, microwave, aircon, tv, tea making facilities (including fresh milk and biscuits!). There were also towels in the room, the softest towels I have ever had in accommodation! Included in the room price was unlimited fast wifi and breakfast. It was refreshing to see breakfast wasn't one dollar bread, but a variety of healthier bread options including a selection of jams/honey/peanut butter. It is a short

I stayed at the New Railway for an entire month whilst attending courses at the local university. Gary and Barrie have made my stay so enjoyable that I am booking for another month in August! Barrie is a superstar, ensuring the bathrooms/kitchen/rooms are ALWAYS clean. Gary is the friendliest hotelier in Aotearoa, and always good for a yarn. There are hair driers, tea/coffee/biscuits, T.V's, aircon, 2x towels, 2x pillows, and free wifi - all for a cheap backpacker price! Looking forward to my next stay in this charming and quirky hotel which has just as much character as the management - thanks so much Gaz and Baz from Jess (Melbourne)
