Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We got off to a bad start when the manager ticked us off for not noticing the visitor's car parks and stopping in a vacant room park while we checked in and then complained because we had come in to get a room before the person who had made the block booking for us. We had a studio apartment with basic facilities - we were there to sleep and have breakfast so didn't need anything more. On the plus side: the motel is away from the main street and very quiet at night, the bed was spacious with a reasonably firm mattress, the decor was neutral and everything was very clean, and there is a selection of restaurants and a Pak N Save a short walk away. On the neutral side: no stove top or hotplate (but a microwave), minimal but adequate glassware, crockery and eating utensils. On the negative side mainly minor whinges: a kitchen knife too blunt to slice rolls (typically - are New Zealand motels terrified of lawsuits from self-cut guests?), the usual totally inadequate supply of hangers in the closet, heater on the wall at head height above a sofa so only half the sofa could be occupied when the heater was on, feeble shower pressure and one of those old-fashioned dial mixers where the temperature goes from freezing to scalding in half a degree turn, thin curtains over the ranchslider door make it impossible to screen out the light at night (and the management controls the light outside the door apparently so they decide when you need darkness), and a sickly sweet artificial perfume emanating from an air freshener that I eventually tracked down to a plastic doo-hickey on top of the toilet - I put it in a plastic bag to neutralise the smell. Finally, a very large and somewhat misshapen dog wandered in through our open door and had a good sniff round the entire room before wandering out again. I didn't mind but I was a little surprised that the motel would allow guests to let their pets wander free like that. Overall, though, the motel more or less does what it advertises and for the reasonable tariff it's an average bargain. But I'd encourage the manager to go on a hospitality course. Motel managers who start off by putting guests on the back foot ought to consider another line of work.

If you want a place to stay in Palmerston North that is a true walking distance to town then we would highly reccomend The Palmerston North Motel in Linton Street. We have stayed there nearly a dozen times over the past few years and have always found it very reliable, quiet and very clean. The one bedroom units are our favorite as you get that extra room to move about in. It also has a super king bed which is extremely comfortable although it does dominate the bedroom a bit (minor comment).

Happy to see a spacious room with clean and comfortable beds, clean bathroom and functional kitchenette. The hot pool was a welcome relief. We were given a room with a Jacuzzi bath tub.
However, the worst nightmare started when the wifi was NOT working for the 3 entire days staying in the motel citing technical problem by the provider BUT NOTHING been solved. Nearby free wifi was functioning well. FRUSTRATING
Water pressure is so low that it did not make a shower an enjoyable one but just to wet and get it over.

Disgusting. Everything about this place says the owners don't care. From the completely blocked shower drain to the only spare blanket, which had white, crusty stains. Inside and out is totally uncared for. The woman, Lyn was horribly rude and even shoved my sister out of the office. I will be telling everyone I know about this hole.

HI Ebony, Thank you for bringing to the attention to review readers a few things you need to understand as an on line booker. All online bookings need to have a working credit card attached to it or your booking is invalid. You also need to give us a contact number so we have an opportunity to get your booking correct when you start making a large number of extra requests. You were asking to check in before check in time and check out after check out of 10am. You also wanted the unit to have a deck and a view! I was just trying to make it clear to you that this last request is quite laughable. Palmerston North is a flat city and usually at a motel your view is the carpark or another unit. I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve but your abusive behaviour on the phone made it clear to me that the best solution to not being able to meet your demands was to proceed with cancelling your booking. Guests are not always in the right when it comes to booking a motel unit.

Lynn and Brett at any motel/Hotel. I have ever been to in my small 23 years of life this has been the worst experience of my life. I rate ur service less then a zero poor communication, angry lady, and scary . Took kai out of my motel room. Treated my five year old and partner with no respect. And you swore and laughed at me. Anyone I know or had to direct to a motel this would be the last place I'd send anybody on planet earth. I wouldn't even send my worst enemy. I feel bad to any person that has to tolerate you and ur service at "you're" motel. "Lynn and brett",😡👎

In regards to owners response pretty much advising there was no flea/bed bug issue I call BS! There were a group of us that stayed in multiple units and since leaving on Sunday morning there were a number of people who also had bites. Not to mention the filthy (probably flea ridden) dog that seemed to run around the place going wherever it pleased. So his wife was not the only one attacked. When sheets were pulled back she physically saw a flea and the sheets had multiple spots of dried blood which probably means she wasn't the first person attacked by bugs and worst of all the sheets hadn't been cleaned since - disgusting! Really disappointing to see the owners try to shrug responsibility rather than accept the criticism and make the required improvements. Also just to mention there was no milk supplied in the rooms, no tea towel to be able to do the dishes and the sky magazine was from last month!

The folk at the reception were rude, the kids were chased out of the pool at 6:05pm for being noisy, and the trampoline was broken. Nothing positive to say about this place apart from the location which is very convient and outside the things they managers can mess up.

I'm sure readers will respect that as owners we look for the enjoyment of all guests but there are unfortunately times when visitors forget to respect the needs of others. Unsupervised children in our pool area is both dangerous and allows activity to happen that other guests dislike, such as squealing. Our policies on noise, supervision and 1 person at a time on a trampoline will be considered quite sensible by future guests. Parents play an important role in supervising their children and this must remain the case when on all motel sites around the world. Thank you for reminding all review readers of their expectations so that they know they will be able to enjoy our facilities on their visit.

Rude and mean lady owner, go into customer's room without permission, dog poop around the pathway, cold and old rooms, worst services, the owner asked not to turn on the heater when it was freezing at night( came to New Zealand for more than 5years, never heard this kiwi style). Worst experience in New Zealand.
