Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked the studio unit - accessible. Close to shops and city centre. Have stayed before. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. We always find unit tidy, neat, clean and appreciate how they kindly vacuum and replace bathroom and kitchen essentials daily. Additional bonus is having a wardrobe, chairs and table and really love the touch lamps.

We stayed here for 7 nights in a twin spa room. The room had 2 comfortable beds, 2 very comfortable lounge chairs/ recliners, a desk and microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster. The bathroom was quite spacious also, the shower was over the spa bath. Everything was clean and well maintained. The owners were friendly and went out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. The rooms do not have air conditioning which we thought might be a problem, but we were given a fan and this proved more than satisfactory. I recommend this motel for anyone looking for good value for money in virtually the centre of Palmerston North.

A very tired & way over priced motel . Bathroom tiles have green mould between them, the bath spa jets are surrounded by mould, carpets are old , bed like a cardboard box !
The deodorants they use to disguise damp smells is overwhelming.
Give this place a wide birth

We paid for 2 nights stay but check out after the first night be cause some of our electrical appliance was taken away by the staff without informing us. Day time room service did not tidy up our bed. Microwave is provided in the room however we were questioned about heating up the food inside the room. Furthermore although wifi is free but the connection was bad. Compare with the price to the service and treatment we had, I will say that this is definitely not the motel we are looking for. We couldn't really rest our mind for holiday during the stay ask the security level was low and the staff was not friendly as well. At last we managed to find a cheaper and more comfortable motel to continue enjoy our holidays for the second stay.

Response from Marilyn S, Manager at Legends Motel
Responded 16 Aug 2013
When we went to service this room we could not make the bed as it was covered with the guests clothes - we do not tidy guests clothes up. The room stunk of cooking smells and a cooker was found on the bench - this was removed from the room so the guests would come and speak to management - if the guests had enquired they would of been able to use the kitchen. We could not let this room for two nights because of the cooking smells. The bathroom floor was flooded and we were worried this water was going to leak into the downstairs units.

We were 3 adults, given a double bed and single bed. The double bed might not be suitable for taller people but fine with us. Beds were very comfortable with clean sheets, blankets and pillows. The studio was not ideal for 3 adults for definitely very good for 2 adults. The room had a bar fridge, microwave, kettle and kitchen stuff - very handy and can save on meals. The motel is a few steps away from the supermarket and The Plaza. We had sky tv... and a spa bath, which was amazing. They provided wifi but is only good for laptops and not ideal for mobile phones, as the connection can get wonky on mobile phones. Lucky I had my laptop with me. Overall the night spent at Legends Motel was very good and really good value. We would definitely return.

My reasons for choosing this particular motel were that it was cheap and close to the centre of town (the Plaza Mall is a block away). It is an older place, but it is well maintained and clean, so I have no trouble recommending it to people looking for a decent place to stay. The room was fairly spacious, with a couple of armchairs, and the kitchen area seemed to be reasonably well equipped. Although the motel is on Fitzherbert Avenue, I was not conscious of road noise. I really should have tried out the spa bath, but didn't have time - the shower was perfectly OK.

We've been staying at this motel when we've come to Palmy for a particular speedway weekend in February for about ten years now.

This year was much the same as we've experienced in the past. Friendly management, clean and tidy room, great pressure in the shower (love the shower!). There's a spa bath, too, but I'm not a fan of those so don't use it.

The central location makes it very handy. We could walk to the speedway if we wanted (and have done in the past). Shops close by, even better than before now that there's a new mall attached to the supermarket just along the road.

The bed is comfortable. The bed linen appeared to brand-new this time, or not far from it.

The decor is starting to age a bit - it's been exactly the same since the first time we stayed there - but it is probably only noticeable to me 'cos I've stayed there so many times.

The lazyboy chairs, while an old model, are very comfortable - especially when compared to what is usually available in a motel room.

The free wireless internet is a great bonus.

We're booked to stay here again this time next year, and I'm looking forward to it.
