Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We booked this motel as it look a reasonable quality for a regional town. The cost wasn't the cheapest but we wanted comfortable accommodation during our visit to friends who have just moved to Hamilton.
The room was large and clean, except for the patch of mould aspected ceiling over the wardrobe. However the hot water tap in the shower, had hot water leaking past the o-ring on the spigot. This was reported to reception when someone finally attended the motel after 10 o'clock on the 23 DEC 2023. We were told that it couldn't be fixed until after the New Year. We later found out that the owners were not 'in town' and would not be back till into the New Year.
For the cost of the room we expected better service for this motel.
The sign at the front stated that the motel was fully booked (No Vacancies) but we only observed 3 other rooms being occupied over our 5 days stay.
Another issue to note was that I did not receive the promised confirmation email from the motel when I booked the room on 10 DEC 2023.
Overall we would not stay at this motel again. I have not contacted the owners yet.

My husband and I were on the way home and needed somewhere for the night. This looked good online and there was a king size bed. When we booked we were advised the restaurant was closed because it was Monday. The greeting was nice and we were given directions to the best locations for dinner. Yes there is a king size bed but boy were we surprised by the extremely old furnishings. Even the air conditioning is old. The shower is over a pink bathtub with no curtain but a small screen for water splash. The bed was comfortable and the room was dark. There is only free to air tv and I was not offered any details re wifi. There was 2 other cars in the parking and this place is large so you really noticed it. The complementary continental breakfast was adequate but real juice instead of juice drink would have been nice. If this is now under new management I hope they update everything except the bed because it really need it. I’m sure it was good in its day.

From the outside it looked okay but there were no cars anywhere so not sure it was open. However, it was and we ended up with a large, spacious room for two nights. On the plus side, the bed was great and very comfortable and the room was clean. The view onto the courtyard was really nice and there were lots of towels and a good fridge. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and accommodating. There was a free laundry service which was a nice touch. On the minus side, while the bathroom was clean it needed the attention of a plumber. It was very dated and everywhere was badly chipped with all taps needing repair. There was a spa bath and when I turned it on in the evening I ended up with a bathtub full of dead spiders. We tried the pool and it also had plenty of live and dead bugs in it. I cleaned the pool for about 10 minutes before I would venture in. A continental breakfast was included and while it was okay, it would have benefitted from a pot of coffee or even a bit of fruit. The restaurant was closed while we were there. We understand the motel is being updated and it is about time. Given that only two rooms were rented on our first night and six on our second night the update should be done sooner and then well publicised.

Disliked · We arrived at around 5.45 pm after a long drive only to find the reception closed. However eventually the manager arrived, told us what rooms we were in and said the keys are in the doors.

Before unpacking I went to my travelling companions room next door for a drink and shortly after the door swung open and the manager walked in to berate us about my belongings being in the wrong room! Unbelievable that this guy can just come into a room without knocking and telling me my bags were in the wrong room! I had put my bags in the room he had given me but said I was happy to change as I hadn't unpacked. He then went on say not to bother as it would then mean extra cleaning! He also complained that I had booked through Booking.com saying that they took too much in fees!

The room itself was rather dated, especially the bathroom. The lighting was poor so much so that reading wasn't an option and to top it off there was no hot water in the morning for a shower.

I should have read more reviews for although the reviews on Booking.com seemed largely reasonable the reviews on Google and Trip Advisor were not as glowing.

I stay in motels frequently and this grumpy man is one of the rudest managers I’ve unfortunately met.
When we went to check in the reception was locked and no one around. So we went into town for a coffee. Came back 1.5 hours later and still all-locked up. No notes on the door, so we rang the phone number and the phone rang out. My partner and the partner of my friend went looking fir someone. They found the grumpy manager in the garden and boy what an unfortunate find it was….. how dare we disturb him by checking in to his motel. The girls asked about the restaurant for dinner and he mumbled it was open from 5.30pm., and handed a small orange juice bottle that he just 1/2 filled with fresh milk We got to our rooms and ours looked like it had been recently renovated with new carpet and furniture. I looked in the compendium for the restaurant menu but there was none ?? So I walked into the reception area and asked Mr Grumpy the manager fir the menu, only to be told they were on the bar and not in the rooms compendium because the menu changes often and goes out of date. Also he has nothing to do with the restaurant as it was leased out. I was made to feel like I should not have bothered him with a silly question about the restaurant in his motel.?? This motel looks great from the road and the gardens are well kept. The bed was comfortable, but the shower was a double one with 2 shower heads ( only 1 worked) and there was no shower screen door ??
The manager informed us that he was only new. If he is managing this motel for someone he in my opinion should be sacked immediately. If he owned the place I’d say there will be a motel going cheap soon because no now will go there. Take my advise and stay away from this place at all costs.

The new manager of this motel is clearly out of his depth. Customer respect & service is something that is not provided. As l walked out of my room one morning the Manager was walking around the rooms yelling at someone on his phone, he did not care that guests were able to hear this, it was quite disturbing to hear. In the seated bar area and front lounge with seating in front of open fire we were told not gather here and move away! Locating light and heater switches in your room is not easy & when you ask how to turn them on you spoken to as though you are an idiot. Provisions in the room are very slim, no milk, 1 tiny piece of soap and if you want the room made up, make your own bed you will do a better job!

The Grange is under new management who run the property like a modern day Fawlty Towers, meaning, customer satisfaction is the least of their concerns. For example, approximately 35 of us were booked to have dinner on the Saturday night. This was arranged several months in advance with final numbers being firmed up in the week prior to our arrival. After the main courses were served, I was surprised that no dessert menus were given out so I went looking for the manager and asked him if we would be served dessert. He called the Head Chef who said that they were ‘low on supply.’ When pressed for details he said that they had a few servings of scones left and 6 portions of chocolate pudding. Neither the manager nor the Chef seemed to think there was anything unusual about this. Given that several people in our group were also shouted at by an extremely highly-strung and stressed-out manager, both prior to and during our weekend event, it seems that hospitality is something of a mystery to the new management.

Easy check in. Friendly staff. Very clean room with lots of space. Bed was very comfortable.
It was a very hot day, 38 so the staff gave me a room that didn’t get the afternoon sun. Which I appreciated as I had been outside most of the day. Still getting their restaurant up and running. Pool clean. Would go back again.

Large, comfortable room and bathroom with great double shower. Pleasant, friendly, helpful staff. We enjoyed lamb cutlets and seafood platter in the restaurant. Quiet location. Make sure you book directly with new management.

Stayed here 2 or 3 times now and this time the service was extremely rude! Will not stay here again! Wouldn’t recommend to anyone now. Will find somewhere else to stay next time and happy to pay more for it.
