Detailed Reviews
The Novotel Geelong would have the be one of the better hotels in Geelong CBD.
The hotel is located at the bottom of Geelong CBD, opposite the waterfront, and surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and the Geelong Yacht Club.
The Port Phillip ferry (Geelong/Melbourne bound ferry) is located across the road, and the hotel is also close to the Bellarine Peninsula, Surf Coast and other attractions.
We booked a standard king-size room with a balcony, and had quite nice views of the waterfront, although our room wasn't looking directly at the waterfront! Our room was spacious considering it was a standard size room.
Given the hotel's location, there was minimal noise at night, the bed and pillows were comfortable, the room was fresh and clean, and customer service was very good, and check-out was very quick. Valet parking is available and overnight parking is around $27 per night (at least at the time of our reservation)!
If it necessitated us staying at a hotel in Geelong again, we would definitely return to the Novotel Geelong.

This hotel is centrally located and has great views of the bay. We stayed in the Steampacket Suite as we wanted a balcony looking over the bay and we were NOT disappointed in this room, it has a separate living area and bedroom, the bathroom had a lovely large bath tub (which I didnt get to use this trip) that looked amazing, the shower head was brilliant. We had breakfast included which now during lockdown is 2 courses but you wont go hungry, we ordered fruit and Greek yogurt (which was a huge serving) and then I had smashed avo and eggs which was so tasty whilst my husband had eggs benedict and bacon which he said was beautiful. The staff in the restaurant were really friendly and helpful. We will definitely come back for another overnight stay to get out of Melbourne.

The Hotel's Concierge saved the day upon our arrival after a long drive with a 3 month baby & 2 year old. The room was not quite ready as it was 1 hour before check-in but the Concierge fast tracked the room preparation so we could use it. Which meant the crying hungry baby could be feed. The Concierge also entertained the 2 year old whilst mum checked in & dad unpack the luggage.
The Hotel is convenient to Eastern Beach, Geelong eateries & shopping district. Entry to Westfield shopping centre is cross the road from the hotel's rear entrance. Shopping Centre has a supermarket, Department & speciality stores.
The car was promptly brought out from the valet parking when requested.
Our room was a little larger than most in the hotel, to accommodate for the king sized bed & sofa bed. The room including the bathroom was up to date, clean & well maintained.
Breakfast was enjoyable with views over the bay.
We will be back again.

Following a period of family trauma, and not having travelled for over a year, we decided to have a change of environment for a few days. We did not want to do a lot of driving, and were attracted to the coast. We also wanted to use our Accor membership. We read some online reviews and settled on the Novotel in Geelong. The location facing Corio Bay and overlooking the bayfront proved perfect. We could walk into the CBD or through the public areas that fringed the bay. These public areas were beautifully maintained. We initially did not share our family circumstances with the hotel, but it was as if they knew. We could not fault the staff. We chose to have a room service midway through our four-night stay, but if we needed anything we only needed to ask reception. Hotel staff were masked, but we were not. Breakfast was ample and our choices from the continental buffet were brought to our table, and we ordered cooked food from the menu. The dinner menu gave ample choices and the food was delicious. Our car was safely parked for us. While at the Novotel we toured some other Bellarine coastal areas, and visited to fascinating RONE exhibition at the Geelong Art Gallery. This stay reminded us of the pleasures of travel and now we are confident planning further trips within Victoria and interstate.

The rooms are very nice no complaints, however I would avoid the buffet breakfast, about the worst breakfast I have ever had in a hotel. We arrived for breakfast at 9.15, the table next to us which probably had a few kids seated was dirty and the plates had not been cleared, the floor were also dirty. By 10.30 am when we left this same table still had not been cleared. Looking at it now, its just reflective of what they have on offer. Now for the food, wow.... only 1 cup available at the coffee station and no spoons, only wooden stirrers, no cutlery to eat your food with, and by the time that arrived , the food was cold. I wanted poached eggs and grilled tomatoes, and by 9.30am, most items had not been replenished, and the bain-marie's were empty, one cold poached egg and one tomato, and no cutlery to eat it with!!. The cheese platter (more like a small plate) , had very little for a restaurant that size. At 9.45 after the cold eggs, the pastry trays were empty and the pancake machine was no longer working. At $32.00 per head this would have to be the worst breakfast I think money could buy anywhere in Geelong. If they offered me the same experience again "for free" I would decline, please don't pay extra for breakfast as you will be disappointed). Dirty, lousy cheap food... rubbish service can't say much more. It definitely is a bad reflection on what is otherwise a very very nice hotel.

We stayed here on NYE and had a good experience.
On booking via the website I called to request adjacent rooms for the kids and the staff member was very helpful in facilitating, rooms were lovely and spacious. One watch out is the shower and the amount of water that ends up on the floor based on the way the glass divider stops.
With the location we enjoyed walking around geelong- movies, Timezone, eastern beach and beachfront activities for the kids, and plenty of cafes.
We dined in the restaurant for breakfast and food was good, staff seemed new but post covid is understandable and they were all friendly.
The pool is a little tired but the adjacent outdoor area is lovely in the afternoon.
Only feedback is the lack of valet drivers on a peak stay night meant frustration on arrival and staff were run off their feet. The way the driveway is means it is unforgiving to a back log of cars.

Novotel Geelong is well placed for a weekend getaway. Walking distance from the VLine station, the hotel is on the vibrant Eastern Beach Road. It's surrounded by restaurants, the Westfield shopping centre is right behind it, and it's across the road from the waterfront.
There were repair works at the front of the hotel, but signage directed us to the side entrance. We were greeted warmly by staff  and our top-floor room was ready on arrival. We were delighted with our partial sea view, with a small balcony including table and chairs to enjoy the sunrise from. The room itself was spacious, with a chaise lounge and plenty of room for our luggage. The room had the usual features that we take for granted in Australia: mini fridge, tea/coffee/milk, kettle, and generous bathroom amenities. Unfortunately the large shower had an impractical shower screen, which meant a wet floor every time. The shower base was also rather slippery, and the hotel did not have non-slip shower mats for guest use.
The hotel pool area has a lovely terrace overlooking the bay, with outdoor seating. The pool itself is indoor and heated. Access to the gym and pool was by booking in order to cap numbers. The gym was small with limited cardio equipment and no weights. The pool numbers are supposed to be capped at 10, but the pool is not big enough to allow that many people any freedom of movement in the water. I was in the pool with 5 strangers and disappointingly they were not all respectful of those around them. One group in particular  seemed to think they owned the pool. It was not a relaxing experience. Not the hotel’s fault but something to be mindful of in Covid times.
The hotel is trying to be Covid safe, with sanitiser stations by the lifts on each floor. This was let down a little by how dusty our room was on entry. I actually wiped down surfaces myself before settling in! Housekeeping is on call only, which suited us fine but is something to keep in mind when booking.
One might also want to consider what events are taking place nearby when booking. Unbeknownst to us, we had booked our stay on Geelong Bike Night which was headquartered next door. This meant traffic, noise, and fumes, which makes outdoor dining somewhat unpleasant.
Despite some imperfections, I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The location is unbeatable, the staff were friendly, and the room did the job. It was easy to get to restaurants, shops, the beach and the seaside walking trail. Hopefully again soon!

My standard King Room was well maintained and clean .It had a balcony which had a partial view of the Geelong Foreshore . The bed was very comfortable and supportive. The Mini Bar could be filled upon request and the room could be service upon request.
I experienced great helpful service form the staff in all areas during my stay be it check in and out or in the restaurant and bar or any general enquires.
To my surprise the Waterfront Restaurant and Bar were open. Waterfront Restaurant and Bar have great views of the foreshore area and it was great to chill out and wine and dine there and watch the world go by. The food And beverage menus are limited but adequate and I enjoyed my Breakfasts and dinners there.
There is a good heated pool which I utilised daily and you must book your hour secession. The pool area has a great outer balcony area with an excellent view of the waterfront and it’s a good place to relax. There is also a gym and sauna facilities which I didn’t use.
The hotel is located across the road from the Geelong waterfront and as mentioned has great views of the area. It is an ideal location being a short stroll to the city shops restaurants, and bars. It’s also a short walk to the Geelong Railway Station. With the foreshore at the front if the building it’s ideal location for your walk along the fantastic foreshore and Pier. It’s also a very short walk to the Geelong Botanical Gardens which is a must visit on your trip to Geelong.

The 80th birthday party for my wife was one of the most enjoyable functions we had. The function room on the second floor of the Geelong Waterfront Novotel provided the perfect background; even if the sun is not shining, the view across the foreshore is spectacular. Whilst we provided the plan, and the colourful decorations which gave the room the festive appearance, the staff rose to the occasion to implement all our ideas and wishes. We felt they were happy for us and with us which made this event even more enjoyable. The kitchen excelled; the carvery and the setup complemented the cleverly arranged room, including a dance floor, without appearing cramped. The waitressing occurred unobtrusively, extremely well organised. For all of us, it was an occasion to be remembered fondly – well done Geelong Novotel!

We were not staying at the hotel, although my wife and I have stayed there before and have eaten there with friends in the past. We had breakfast there on the morning of 31st Dec as a group of 8 and the feeling as we left (from all of us) was that the overall experience was rather disappointing.
The service from the staff was uncoordinated and very slow. They gave the impression that they were still learning the role. No confident smiles amongst them.
(Breakfast is no longer buffet and we were aware of that).
Meals were just OK, although one of them ( Pancake Stack) looked rather miserable as representing a main meal. There Just 3 (more like pikelets) than pancakes with 4 berries around the edge of the plate. Nothing like what it was described as on the menu. Also one of the pancakes had been well burnt.
They mucked up our coffee orders and we did not make a fuss about it, Just ended up accepting what they delivered to the table. Not to mention that the drinks were not very hot at all.
I actually sent an email to the hotel in the afternoon of the 31st. It was acknowledged and they stated they would come back to me. That has not happened, so that is why I am now posting this review. I would have thought that 6 days would have been sufficient time for them to reply.
I am not normally one of those people who would complain about such things, but when you have a group who all have the same thoughts, I believe it is better to let the venue know, and if there is seen to be an issue they can address it.
I should mention that we had booked for the meal some 10 days ahead and rang the day before to confirm numbers, and were told that they had no record of the booking.
PS. We have found over the years that the experience of staying/eating in most of the "major hotel chains" is not what it used to be. Go for the smaller, and becoming more popular, boutique chains or smaller hotels.
