Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having just come from the Hokitika Kiwi Holiday park, which was superb, I had some expectation that the Westport equivalent would be similar. Alas we were disappointed. This park was quite rundown and liked more like a giant car park for Britz camper vans ( not occupied) than a holiday park. There was also a big contingent of road workers at the camp and there was a definite bitumen odour in the air. T he e “free” wifi advertised only gave you a half hour to check emails otherwise it was an A m additional $5 for 24 h. The showers were good and there was no extra charge however the base rate ($43 with an NZMCA discount was more expensive th an the Hokitika camp which was very much better. Overall a very average experience and we wouldn’t go again.

Stayed two nights here. $20 for a campsite. Good toilet and shower facilities. Your own eating utensils, pots, pans etc is required. Large outside dining area.
About a 10 minute walk to the main shopping area.
Free wifi available.

We had two nights in an en-suite cabin at this park. Whilst the grounds were lovely and the kitchen/lounge areas very good, we felt the cabin was very ordinary. It smelt of stale cigarettes
despite there being signs for no smoking in the cabin.
We have been on a 5 week tour of the upper part of the Sth Island and compared to the other accommodation we have enjoyed, this did not rate as good value for money.
The park was very quiet with no street noise.

We feel that this facility may have suffered little during Covid times with reduced tourists. Seems a little run down which made it seem less clean than it probably was. Ran out of soap in the bathrooms by the morning and toilet paper in the men’s so we used our own soap and toilet paper. However saying that we could have gone to reception and probably asked for more. All the best to the owners however as it can’t have been easy over the last six months. Reception staff were nice.

Very nice camp. Most sites are on gravel which is good if you get rain; tend to stay dryer. Very clean ablutions block.

Only drawback is having to pay $2 for an 8min shower. Firstly - I'd never have an 8min shower, but if I'm paying for 8min then I will. Given the camp fees, I don't see the need to charge for showers. We are self contained, so I just showered in the caravan.

Mini golf is fun. Was a bit disconcerting that sites aren't allocated when you book. It was pouring when we arrived and had trouble finding a site. Turned out one of the smallest vans in camp was on one of the big sites. This probably wouldn't happen if sites were allocated rather than "go find one".

We would definitely come back though. Pet friendly and friendly staff.

Clean and tidy place to stay. Abundant hot water and friendly weka's. Great outdoor eating areas and lovely staff. Played mini golf and found the owners very helpful and friendly. Asked for the top five things to do in Westport and got some real gems in return.

Within walking distance of the town. A messy campsite. Stayed just one night with a campervan on a powered site. No allocated space so drove around the site twice looking for somewhere decent to stop. Mainly residential caravans on the site and most of them were old and an eyesore, being in a dilapidated state. Not good to have to view from your window. Eventually chose a space quite a distance from the facilities and the site was very poorly lit at night necessitating a trek in the pitch dark. Large but old and not very well equipped washrooms and not heated. Quite cold December night, so uncomfortable. Avoided the kitchen as it did not look too appealing. The cabins looked dingy and not very well maintained . Staff not over-friendly. Would not visit again. Recommend to find somewhere else.

Response from Margaret M, Owner at Westport Kiwi Holiday Park & Motels
Responded 26 Jul 2013
Sorry to see these people didn't enjoy there stay - but were unable to come to the office and discuss this with the owners. We allow all of our guests to choose their own site when staying with camper-vans or caravans. In December the one of the last of our semi-permanents with an older vehicle departed. Having 65 powered sites and New Zealand having a large number of traveling vehicles means there will always be many different types of vehicles staying at any one time. This holiday park has been in Westport for over 40 years and maintenance is a very high priority. We always welcome all nationality's.

We were going to "Freedom Camp" in Westport but didn't fancy the couple of areas we looked at. No booking then but very helpful lady on reception sorted us out. Not a "scenic" site (looking at a field) but all the facilities were OK except that wi-fi if you wanted it came at a charge (really in 2017 there is no justification for this). Overall though a very good one night stay.

We stayed in one of the lodges here for two nights. The facilities were really well looked after. Lovely large bathroom never had to queue and warm showers. Clean kitchen and a good BBQ area. Staff were very friendly.

If you are staying here I would make sure you have a car... we did not and struggled with seeing anything. There's some lovely attractions between 20-40 minutes away.
