Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in the cabin which was around 100 m from main building. It was OK but showed signs of reduced maintenance, e.g. very loose tap on kitchen sink. The main issue was the cabin was advertised as having internet but it didn't. We need internet as we had been out or range fro some days. We could get it outside half way to main building but this is not acceptable. It was also advertised as having a BBQ but it did not. Finally the place filled with mosquitoes after dark. Admittedly we had door open and lights on but there should have been a note to warn about this and some bug spray available. Would not stay here again.

We were delighted with our stay. Due to unforseen circumstances meant we got upgraded and the team made every effort to accommodate our needs as a group. Very attentative and friendly staff. Highly recommend for a quiet, relaxing stay. Facilities were clean and functional at excellent rates.

Had to cancel a stay with them due to trying to return home early, the hotel refused to cancel my reservation. "Per your request, we contacted the Fiordland National Park Lodge to attempt a cancelation on your reservation. Despite our efforts, the hotel has decided to enforce the current policy and is not willing to refund. Top Offers is happy to work on your behalf, but we are also subject to the terms the hotels have established and cannot override their decision. We sincerely regret that their response was not more favorable." Currently disputing with the credit card company.

We stayed on 21/3/2020 the night before our milford sound tour. The gentleman that checked us in said they were slow so they upgraded our room to a studio overlooking the garden. What a nice room, very roomy with cooking facilities and a spacious bathroom. We ate there that night and i had a lovely meal of lamb with a complimentary glass of beer. The same gentleman that checked us in also waited on us and checked us out the next day, sorry i did not get his name, but a great person. If you want quiet and rest i think this is the place. The tour bus for Milford sound picked us up right there and dropped us back off there.

This accommodation was a huge disappointment. One could ignore the lack of facilities in a worn-out room (only one chair or only one bedside table in a room for two) but if the bathroom is so small that you cannot even place a toothbrush in it then it is little bit of a problem. We could not get any help for the first night, some emergency solutions were found for the second. The bathroom photo at booking.com website was misleading, showing a completely different bathroom. Breakfast was so unprofessionally prepared that we decided to have the next day breakfast in a location 28km away (the lodge is at an isolated location and there is no shop/restaurant nearer).

We stayed here for one night before a planned trip to the Milford Sound. Unfortunately the Milford Sound road was closed due to flooding so we had to change our plans and visited the Doubtful Sound instead. Trish, the manager, sorted everything out for us. The receptionist was lovely when we checked in and we had great service and food in the restaurant. What makes this place extra special is the views of the lake and mountains around and the serenity. Not to mention the proximity to some lovely places in the Fiordland area. There’s a great walk you can do of lake mistletoe, with the start point immediately opposite the lodge. Even though we couldn’t get to Milford sound, we could still explore numerous lookout points and walks on the road up to cascade creek. We could’ve easily spent more time here if we had more time. Should also mention the rooms were very clean and room facilities great for what we needed.

We stayed here for 2 nights to visit doubtful sound. When we checked in we were disappointed with our rooms in the main building (queen with garden view) as they were very small with a tiny cubbyhole bathroom. We spoke to reception and they moved us to the chalets for an extra cost. If you stay here these are the only rooms worth staying in, the lakeside view is gorgeous but the rooms are in dire need of upgrading. The carpets, kitchenette and bathroom all appear decades old and very worn. We ate in the restaurant the first night and it was truly awful. So awful. Worst meal we have had in New Zealand. Food was inedible in some cases. We bought our own food for the second night and sat and looked at the lake which was lovely. Without our room change it would have been a pretty miserable stay. The hotel also took payment in advance of our stay although we were told we would pay at property. There are some good walks within the vicinity and it is a good location for Milford/Te Anau.

We arrived here after a long, wet drive looking forward to a modern motel room (as per the advertised photos) but were disappointed. The room was cramped and old. We were told we couldn’t use the laundry to wash or dry our soaked clothes because it was after 8pm and the laundry closed at 9. The kitchen was tiny and dirty and wasn’t “fully equipped” as we were expecting. Overall very disappointed and we were happy to leave.

I booked a room with a kitchen as it’s not near Town the only dining option is the lodges restaurant and prices are a bit steep so we did the shopping in Te Anau and cooked in the evenings. We got a stunning spacious room with lots of windows overlooking the lake. Every morning woke up to bunnies running outside and those stunning mountains and lake staring back! The staff are a delight! Housekeeping is efficient and the rooms were spotless every day, the receptionist that welcomed us after a nightmare drive (flooding and all) was probably the nicest hotel front of house staff I have EVER come across! Total all rounder!
