What great hosts - Keiko and Kevin made our stay here perfect. They have a couple of cottages surrounded by beautiful gardens that are just a short walk from the center of town with plenty of shops and restaurants. I wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend.

A most quiet and beautiful place with lovely calm Japanese inspired environment to stay. Good value and cooking facilities in the unit you would need. Friendly caring hosts with lots of local knowledge. Would definitely recommend to visitors to Te Anau

Our cottage, nestled inside an intricate, flowering garden that is a little gem off a busy road, was very comfortable and pleasant. Unfortunately, it is not a B&B as advertised, but a "B" only--i.e. there is no breakfast unless you order in advance and pay NZ$30 per person, which is much more than you'll pay for a full breakfast in town. The host said they stopped including breakfast some years ago but don't have the code to change the website. Huh? Still, we would certainly recommend it to friends, as long as they weren't hankering for the second "B."

Response from KeikoandKevin, Owner at Keiko's Cottages & Bed & Breakfast
Responded 18 Mar 2020
We stopped including breakfasts a number of years ago as most people didn't even want the continental style preferring a lower priced stay. All replies to inquiries include 'accommodation only breakfasts if reqd are additional' or something similar. We serve high quality Japanese breakfasts on demand and at $30pp are great value, you can buy downtown(from about $15) or prepare bacon and eggs yourself. Three of our cottages have a basic kitchen with plenty of utensils, a cook top, fridge, toaster, microwave, kettle etc and Wisteria Room has a fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle etc. David knew that breakfasts were additional but put up a great fuss in the hope we'd cave into his unreasonable demands. It happened a few weeks later and when I pointed out to the guests-on their phone- the 'accommodation only' bit they didn't even have the good manners to stop raving-they didn't get a free breakfast either! So to clear things up we are a B&B but if required yummy Japanese breakfasts are additional and @$30 pp (this season) are a wonderful dining experience. Hope this clears things up Keiko & Kevin

On previous visits to Te Anau we have always stayed somewhere near the waterfront. But now we've discovered Keiko's.... Its better value and much quieter (you'll get a good nights sleep) and the hosts: Keiko and Kevin are delightful. We strolled into town for breakfast - only 5 to 10 minutes walk.

I had an emergency visit to the hospital and had to cancel an overnight trip to Doubtful Sound. We looked all over town for accomodation and got the last room at Keikos and Kevin’s cottages. The hosts were wonderful and checked us in without fuss but with a few home grown plums! I went straight to bed and soon drifted off in lovely room. The cottage is quaint but was exactly what was needed. Kevin offered to drive me to hospital or the morgue depending how the night went. Needlessly to say I survived and continued our journey next day.

It is a bit out of town on a busy road which does quieten down at night. The laminated notices about no shoes, no luggage on the bed and don't touch the telly does put you off a bit. The wifi wasn't brilliant and we had to ask for voucher codes which ran out quite quickly. The room was clean and we slept well. Went on a Milford sound tour on day one and then felt obliged to have the Japanese breakfast the next day. I'm sure it was perfect but not really to my taste, spring onions and Miso soup at 8am was a bit much.

charming, cozy b&b. very conveniently located on the quiet side of te anau. keiko and kevin are very welcoming and are fonts of information. they know the ski slopes, best hikes and restaurants. the garden and grounds are a bonus. if you are lucky, they will give you some plums. ask to see keiko's japanese art. she also prepares a magnificent breakfast. removing your shoes at the door., japanese-style, enhances the intimate feel of this haven.

Warm comfortable B&B right, run by a lovely helpful couple (Keiko and Kevin). The rooms are spacious, breakfasts are excellent, and it is short walk to downtown. They backyard space is full of beautiful flowers with a relaxing atmosphere. They also provided a lot of help organizing our tours to Milford and Doubtful Sounds.

The moment my friend and I arrived, Kevin and Keiko are such great hosts. The gardens are beautiful and the cottage we stayed in is so very clean and comfortable. Kevin gave my and my friend all the information we needed for our stay and our trip the next day to Milford Sound as well as hints for our onward journey to Twizel. The B&B is a short walk into town.

We have stayed in B&Bs in the USA, Europe, Bali and now New Zealand. Keiko and Kevin have shot up to the top of our list. They were both incredibly gracious, helpful and supportive for our entire stay. And don't miss out on Keiko's delicious, gourmet Japanese breakfast! They helped us with every step... tours, transportation, outings, hikes, food recommendations, etc. And when we had a totally unexpected medical need, Kevin called and set up the appointment with the clinic. Here is our advice: Go there and stay next chance you get. Stay in one of the rooms that has outdoor seating in their gorgeous garden. Tell Keiko and Kevin... we sent you! Judy and Dale
