We stayed at the Croft for two nights broken up by an overnight to Milford Sound. Jane and her family are wonderful hosts (and even kept our luggage while we went on the overnight cruise). We had a lovely time and didn't want to leave! The cottages are in a stunningly beautiful location right on Lake Te Anau. We stayed in both cottages; they were each very nice, new and modern with lots of windows and gorgeous views down to the lake over the sheep pasture. Both cottages had good kitchen facilities and Jane serves a lovely breakfast (with plenty of fresh, homemade yogurt!). We enjoyed spending time with her every morning.

The Croft is on the road to Milford Sound, a few kms outside of town (so a car is probably a necessity). We highly highly recommend it - you won't be disappointed!

We knew that The Croft looked like a great place based on the website. What we didn't anticipate was not wanting to leave! We had the lovely blue cottage facing the lake. There are big windows that allow you to see the amazing grounds (with sheep!) and the lake.

It's a short drive from town, but as we were on our honeymoon all the better! We opted to take a tour of Milford Sound and the bus picked us up roadside (very convenient, but not necessarily recommended to go the bus route).

Jane is a warm and welcoming person. She was running errands when we arrived and her daughter (home from college) greeted us warmly and showed us our cottage. As we settled in Jane came to greet us (with cake!). We had wonderful conversations over breakfast and Jane gave us lots of ideas of things to do while in town (including great hikes).

We were there mid-winter, but there was a heating blanket and a space heater that kept us nice and warm. There are also some nice touches like a cd player (and a couple cds, too), a tv and dvd player (with dvds...she even offered more options!).

I can't recommend The Croft enough. We loved our three nights and if we ever find ourselves in the area again we will definitely be looking to stay here!

We stayed at picturesque "the Croft" for 2 nights in August 2007. The owner Jane was very accommodating with our constantly changing plans before we arrived and made us feel very welcome when we actually got there. As we were a group of 4 adults and 2 toddlers, we hired both the Blue and Green Cottages for our stay. Both cottages are comfortable, with superb views of the mountains from the large picture windows. Our usually shy kids thought it was the biggest adventure with the feeding of the animals, going for walks, and running between the cottages like they owned the place. The breakfasts each morning were lovely and Jane went out of her way to provide suitable food for our son (who has food allergies).
We loved the place and will definitely stay again if we revisit Te Anau. PS :- The Indian Summer(?) restaurant is very good, but give the Chinese restaurant opposite the bottleshop a miss!

We had two nights at The Croft in April 2007 and just loved it! Jane and Ross are the perfect hosts, very welcoming and friendly but also allowing you space and privacy. Our cottage had everything we could possibly need, with a wonderful view of the lake. As we were setting off early on the second day for Milford Sound, Jane left a huge assortment of breakfast supplies and fruit in our cottage for us, as well as a map with points marked that she felt we should see. While the cottages are not actually in Te Anau, they are only five minutes drive from the town. Could not recommend The Croft more highly - probably the highlight of our two week stay on the South Island.

Every now and again in our travels we find somewhere to stay that is so good that we just have return. The Croft at Te Anau has everything. Seclusion, comfort, your own private access to the lake and best of all, the genuinely warm welcome from Jane and her family.

We were immediately impressed by the wonderful surroundings... a quiet place with a view of the lakes and mountains... Jane, our hostess, was helpful and kind, and we enjoyed talking to each other during the excellent breakfast. I definitely recommend this place.

We stayed for 2 nights in Te Anau. We met Jane and checked into the blue cottage. The cottage was cozy and private. It was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The view of the lake and surrounding mountains were amazing. We had breakfast in our room the first morning due to an early start and there was more than enough for us. Jane provided us with lots of information on the town, restaurants, and driving to Milford sound on our own. We enjoyed our stay very much.

I first heard of this B&B on a travel website I frequent and subquently here on Trip Advisor.

I did quite a bit of research on places to stay in Te Anau before making a decision. We generally choose self-contained accomodation, but the reviews for the Croft were all so darn good, that we decided to give it a go.

And what a fantastic choice that turned out to be!

The Croft can be found just off the road to Milford Sound, a short distance from Te Anau. It consists of two completely private cottages adjacent to the home of Jane and Ross. We were in the lovingly cared for Green Cottage, which we found spotless, comfortable and perfectly equipped. It’s in a beautiful location, with views of Lake Te Anau and Jane’s garden.

Mac, the resident dog, greeted us and soon became our porch mate. It wasn’t long before we also befriended Kitty, a big grey cat with humongous paws, and his diminutive counterpart, Geri.

We were hesitant about staying at a bed and breakfast, but after spending four nights at the Croft, we were completely sold. Jane was incredibly helpful and friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy having visitors in her home. She’s a wonderful lady who immediately put us at ease. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Croft and highly recommend it.

We spent 2 nights in the lovely Blue Cabin, what a perfect location for a relaxing quiet couple of days. Jane ensured that we were very comfortable and provided far more than what was expected, even down to some beautiful flowers from her garden, which I absolutely loved! We also enjoyed watching the new born lambs and the views across to the snow topped mountains. Would definitely recommend The Croft cabins, so much more than an impersonal motel room in town. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Jane and Ross were wonderful hosts and their home is a beautiful hideaway outside a tourist town that's an excellent base for Milford Sound. We stayed in the blue cabin, which is secluded in the garden and overlooks the lake and fields. The bed and leather sofa were very comfortable, the bathroom was large and had a good shower, and there was a kitchenette with a sink. Breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed Jane's company and insight while we ate. We can't recommend this B&B highly enough.
