Our compact but perfectly formed one bedroom cottage met our every need. Great space and great location. Cosy and comfortable. And a huge thank you to Ray who went above and beyond in assisting us with an unexpected medical issue. FYI Fiordland Tours runs from here and, if you stay at the cottages, there's a discount for the tour!

We stayed at Birchwood on our way out of Milford Sound. Located just a few minutes from the town center, it has great access just off the main Milford road. The cottage was clean, spacious, and comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this quiet little town. Highly recommended to all other travelers.

Cozy, comfortable and clean. The cottage was a great base for our Milford Sound tour; it wasn't fancy but it had everything we needed. It was a short walk into town to go out to eat or take a walk to the lake.
We ended up taking the Cruise Milford tour out of Te Anau (which left from the Birchwood Cottages) and we were happy with the choice. We're not really tour bus people and we were a little hesitant about the bus tour portion but it turned out to be on a small bus/large van that didn't feel crowded, but felt personal and informative with time enough for short walks including the Foreshore Walk at Milford Sound.

We were 6 friends staying in one of the three bedroom cottages. It was an excellent property and had everything we needed. Dee was very helpful on reception and gave us a warm welcome. Would recommend staying here as a group. The cottage was set on it's own just up the road from the main site so we had our own house all to ourselves. Very close to town which was a short walk.

We stayed for one night at the Birchwood cottages before joining a good Fjordland tour to the Milford Sound the following day (I definitely recommend the tour). The cottages need some investment to keep up with standards that constantly improving in New Zealand. I was surprised by the high rating as this mislead us and in the end disappointed us versus expectations (and versus all the other great places where we have stayed in our tour of the NZL South Island).

We are surprised by your review and low rating. We are constantly upgrading but can only do so much when we are also trying to provide affordable accommodation. Age has little to do with quality. We pride ourselves with top hospitality, comfortable beds and good heating and air conditioning. We invite readers of this review to have a look at the positive reviews that have kept us in a strong position Regards Ray

We stayed here for 2 nights in a one bedroom cottage with our 4 yo toddler - loved it. Very clean, warm and had everything we needed. No issues with noise even though it was on a main road. Just a 2 minute drive to the township with lots of options to eat out or to pop into the supermarket. Service was exceptional from booking to checking in and out. Thank you so much Ray and the lovely Sasha at the front desk for making our stay so enjoyable! Will definitely recommend to others.

Spent two nights at the Birchwood. Great location for a more relaxing Milford experience - so nice not to have to drive all the way back to Queenstown. The cottage was spotless and well presented. Loved the bed and linen

Really friendly welcome from Dee the Manageress. Our cabin was spacious and had everything we needed for our 3 night stay. The cabin was within a short flat walking distance to Te Anua town centre with its shops and restaurants.
Good free wifi.
An added bonus was that the owners also operated one of a number of the trips to Milford Sound (Fiordland) and gives a discount to guests. The lady in the tourist office was pointing us towards one of the competitors but Ray (the owner) took time to explain his tour and while it was a little more expensive we opted for it and didn’t regret it.
We had a truly memorable trip on one of their comfortable 17 seater buses about which I’ve also submitted a review.
