Detailed Reviews
Radford's on the Lake is probably the premiere accommodation in beautiful Te Anau. As you would expect of a five star establishment the accommodation is top class, clean, exceptionally tidy and the ideal venue to relax and enjoy panoramic views of the lake and mountains from inside your room. However, it is not just bricks and mortar that make for an exceptional stay. It is the attention, service and friendly disposition of the host, Kerri. We are not inexperienced when it comes to motels all over New Zealand but I would say Kerri made our stay that much more special. Nothing was a problem and she made us feel we were valued guests I would recommend this motel higher than any other I have stayed in and I have stayed in a good number.

Radfords on the Lake is just that.....on the Lake or as close as one could get. Spectacular views of the lake from your window, fabulous hosts who go that extra mile with a smile, the Kiwi humour is fantastic. Rooms are beautifully presented with a welcoming feeling and touches of Fiordland placed carefully about the room. Beds are luxurious and piled with pillows. There is nothing to fault. A few short minutes walk to all amenities. A place you will come back to.

Radfords on the Lake combines the very best features of a motel and boutique hotel. Our room was beautifully styled, spacious, pristine, lake views - and the attention to detail was truly excellent throughout, for fussy people who notice these things. In addition, the service we received from Kerri was the best during our NZ trip - warm, friendly, helpful - she made us feel very welcome in this lovely little town, lending us insect spray and a rain jacket, sharing a recipe, providing good dinner recommendations. We would not hesitate to return to Te Anau and would not stay anywhere else.

As many other reviewers have justifiably noted, Radfords is more than just a place to stay. The attention to detail and customer needs are amazing (thank you again Kerri! ). This begins with a warm welcome and the offer of help (in our case with loan of better quality rain jackets than the flimsy ones we had brought with us).
The rooms are spacious, clean and very well appointed. Of course, much of the day is spent sight seeing, but it was also so easy to relax and feel right at home in the apartment. Radfords is just a short walk from the centre of the town.
Kerri and the staff are there to help, whether it is booking/recommending a restaurant or a tour, or in offering very helpful advice in planning a day or the best route to follow.
I was touched by the concern of Kerri and other staff after I had to visit the medical center due to an accident with my hand.
So, Radfords is highly recommended as a great place to stay, as a home from home.

This is the most amazing place with the most amazing hosts! We had a fantastic time whilst in Te Anau, would be hard only staying 1 night so lucky we were there for 3!!!
Our room was so lovingly set up and very comfortable with heating on ( its still real chilly in Te Anau morning and night), we were warm and happy and loved coming back after days of activity. So good to see Kiwi's supporting these gorgeous small towns and all that Fiordland has to offer and Radfords was the perfect place to stay with the fanastic views of the lake and lots of sun getting into the rooms. Also close to everything so we could walk to restaurants etc.
Thank you Kerri and your team, you do such a good job and we had a giggle or two, so easy to chat with you and have a laugh even though these are trying times for the tourism industry!

We love what we do and helping our guests with recommendations and sharing our local knowledge of what Fiordland has to offer. We have been overwelmed with how Kiwis are seeing there own back yard, and going away with many fond memories of their time here. Wishing you all the very best and I hope we can showcase more of what Fiordland has to offer on another occassion. Warmest Wishes and Kind Regards Kerri and Steve

Enjoyed our stay at Radfords on Lake, beautiful lake views and close to fantastic walks and town centre.
Was disappointed the Milford Road was closed on both days of our stay but Kerri supplied us with plenty of information on great places & things to do.
Kerri's hospitality was amazing.
The apartment was spotless with all the amenities you would need & beds very comfortable (nicely warmed for that winter night)
We still have our boat trip pending so hope to stay at Radfords once again

This is a lovely place to stay in Te Anau, from the moment we arrived the staff were lovely and helpful. From recommending places to eat, things to do and the film about the area nothing was too much trouble. The room was very comfortable and, of the 16 hotels we stayed at during our tour of New Zealand, this was the best in my view.

We stayed for two nights and have no complaints, staff were very helpful and their location puts you very close to the main street and local places to eat. The room was good and on par with many places we have stayed in both in OZ and Europe and in some aspects better. I certainly recommend them as a nice place to rest and relax during your exploration of this beautiful country .

Along with the supurb location and stunning lake view our 2 bedroom apartment was as luxurious as an upmarket hotel room. It is obvious that our hosts have invested and devoted themselves to ensuring their guests have an enjoyable and comfortable stay. It would be hard to find a more charming host than Kerri, we took up her suggestions of stops and time frames for our self-drive to Milford Sound, and also importantly - recommended eating out options. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

HI, We have great heating in all the units and we also have fans for the few days when they are required. Kind Regards Kerri
Hi Limsimseng
It takes about 2.5 hours to drive by car from Te Anau (where Radfords is located) to Milford sound. If you are looking to drive into Milford Sound and then back Te Anau later in the day it's a 5 hour round trip.
The road is windy in sections so it can be a tiring day trip, particularly if you're not used to NZ roads :-) You need to be careful to go with a full petrol tank if you are driving as there is no petrol station at Milford Sound.
You can stay overnight in Milford Sound although there are not many accommodation options. We did this and highly recommend it - gives you plenty of time to do a cruise and look around.
Also easy to get there on a day tour by bus from Te Anau.
If you are driving from Milford Sound to Queenstown (one way) it will take at least 4.5 hours. (Be careful because some websites and online maps indicate it's only a couple of hours ... but it's definitely around 4.5 hours and a long drive!).
Hope this helps!
