Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed 1 night as starting point for Doubtful Sound cruise & visit to Glowworm caves. Staff were very helpful & friendly. There is a small shop selling basic provisions. Stayed in a cabin which was clean & well equipped, with a large bathroom and bath tub. Took a while to figure out the heating, but fine after that. Location is a stones throw from the lake, and about 10-15 min walk into the small town of Te Anau. It's only about 3 min walk to a large "DOC" visitor centre, which is useful to "get your bearings" in the area. There are several well marked hiking trails in the area. In some ways we wished we had stayed longer, as there is quite a lot to see & do in the area.

We stayed in the hotel. It was exceptional. Although simple, it is newly built and is clean and comfortable. The beds and showers are great. You will not get a better view! Stay here and make time to sit and look across the lake with a cup of tea in hand.

The property was well sign posted, and we chose to stay here as it was the closest, reasonably priced accomodation to Milfird Sound (2 and a half hours). The site offers a mix of accomodation from back packers, to lodges, caravan hookups and camping. We booked a 2 bedroom lodge. We slept really well. Shower had good pressure. The lodge was a little dated which wont suit some people, but didnt affect our stay. The bedrooms were small and had no night lamps. The shower had no little shelf for soap etc. The property offers wifi, but you could not connect because there were too many users. You could connect first thing in the morning. This was a pain because i had no phone signal. It would not stop me staying here though

We had one of the little two rooms units. It was small, smaller than the pictures show you. But it's just ok like that. There's no heating device in the rooms and no place to bring the mobile heating unit in. The mobile one wasn't working correctly. Heating was functionning, but the degree controling buttons were not. Also, in our area, Wifi was really weak. We had to walk toward the office to get better signal. People at the office were very kind.

Spent one night in a cabin for three. Everything as described when it comes to quality and equipment. In general - great value for money in the Te Anau area, free WiFi around the whole complex. You need to pay $5 additionally for kitchen utensils though.

Very big campsites with lots of differenct accomodiations. The lakeview is insane, especially when you are sitting on the grass in front of the park. Facilities are clean and not to far away (from powered site). Good acces to te anau and tracks (kepler). Only bad thing a bit to big :)

We arrived late but still received a warm welcome. Clean and warm bathrooms were greatly appreciated after a long day. Didn’t stay long so am not sharing too much but the hospitality made a positive impression.

Absolutely superb customer service and value for money. I stayed in a single room for 5 nights over the winter period and enjoyed a good night’s sleep every night. All facilities were clean and functional. I enjoyed the short walk into town everyday for a coffee, with the stroll beside the lake and mountains nothing short of breathtaking. The park is situated next to walking trails and the Department of Conservation. I’m very appreciative to the staff who went out of their way to pick me up from the coach drop off point so I did not have to lug 30kg of luggage and mountaineering equipment in the pouring rain. I’d summited Ben Lomond in knee-high snow the day before and was spent that day in particular; your kindness was deeply appreciated, as was your putting my luggage in my room and turning on the heater. Such a thoughtful experience all around. Thank you.

I want to express my disappointment with this motel's service and staff. The staff and manager were very rude to me. The room did not have enough toilet paper, no tissues, one of the single bed's electric blankets was not working, and one fridge was not working. Once I reached the information center instead of apologizing for their poor service they started blaming me and the manager judged me and said you are going to cancel because you don't have anything to do in Te Anau I canceled my doubtful sound cruise last night because of this place. The manager hung up the phone on me. The lady at the front desk was not nice at all. Once I mentioned all of these to her she said there is a sign in your room which you can put on your door and ask for service but there was not such a sign in the room. Won't recommend this motel at all. The manager and staff were speaking with me mockingly.

Kia ora, Thank you for your emails and feedback posted online. We apologise for your disappointment that things were not to your expectations. We have taken onboard what you say as we move forward. I have reviewed all of your interactions with our staff and found them courteous and happy to patiently answer your questions and to get additional supplies for you. We reasonably believe that we did do everything within our capabilities to address your concerns during your stay. In terms of your decision to cancel Doubtful Sound, this appeared to be your personal choice – not because of anything we did or did not do. After you reported issues with the fridge and electric blanket, we checked these and did not find any problems. They work as intended. We include 2 toilet rolls in the room. We then gave additional supplies to your group when requested. 4 soap bars are provided on check in as well as 4 towels on arrival. There are two signs – one on each luggage rack, advising to ask if you need more consumables or towels as the rooms are not serviced.
